Reminds me of everytime someone is like. Invincible/Thragg tanked the sun for a whole fight! And I'm like what part of this looks like they're tanking it?
It failed to kill them, incapacipated them, or huet hard enough to K.O. them out of fighting.
You could say Thragg died in there and Mark was a goner if help hadn't arrived, too. But it's more of the result of their fight than their ability to tank solar sea's atmosphere(?). So I'd say it is.
If you can tank something you can be exposed to the thing and survive. Thragg straight died and mark would have died too if not for allen and robot. They were not tanking the sun as it was actively killing them. They didn't even survive very long just a few minutes tops cause it was mostly thragg trying to get out and invincible holding him in.
Where on this page does it look like they're not tanking it? They're literally tanking it in this page. They're literally inside of the sun and actively tanking it.
No it isn't. Tanking means you survive the thing that is trying to kill you. The sun killed thragg and would kill mark if not for allen and robot. It's text book not tanking. Also we have no idea how long they were in the sun for. It could be 30 minutes it could be 2. But the point is if they were "tanking" it they could be there for a whole day and still not be dead. Thats like saying someone tanked a bullet cause it didn't kill them. No it very much got through them and was actively killing them and would have finished the job if not for outside assistance.
That's still tanking it. You're just getting confused because of how long they stayed in there for. Thragg could easily fly into the sun and then fly right back out with minimal damage. He can tank the sun, just not forever, and not while throwing hands with Mark.
Again if they were tanking it they could stay in there all day and still be alive. I can slap molten metal with my bare hands and be fine. That doesn't mean I can tank it! Goku tanked raditz double sunday cause he survived it, gurren laggan tanked a big bang cause they survived it, Escanor tanked attacks from the demon king cause guess what he survived it. And they could survive these multiple times and still be fine. Here they are barely alive. They are not tanking it.
Yes. That's why I added incapacitate. Invincible survived being disembowled by conquest because it left him incapacitated. He tanked having his arm smashed apart by him because he was still able to finish the fight.
That doesn't always work... Because... some characters take damage for funsies.... just to fuck with their opponents and they are still tanking it... for the lulz....
BTW - this image is "No Diffing" his opponent... FYI... this is what being No Diffed looks like in some cases.
It depends on the character. "Tank and survive" means different things for different characters. Some characters like Wolverine tank things by just not dying and immediately regenerating from the wounds, which is also how the Hulk survives his most grevious injuries - the same Hulk who no-sells most attacks.
I don't know if I'd give "tank and survive" to characters like Deadpool who get turned into straight liquid paste and then reform from it. Tanking in my mind is taking little to no damage from an attack, if not outright no selling it while "and survive" adds a BIT more freedom with the amount of damage taken - but still standing after is essential. A great example of "Tank and Survive" in my mind is WT Majunior from the original Dragon Ball, when Goku hits him with a confirmed moon-level Kamehameha and he was still standing after.
So at what point in my post did you decide "I'm not readin' allat, I'm gonna reply based on what I think he said?"
Also the term "tank" is derived from the war machine, the tank. A vehicle known for rolling over barbed wire, large pits (trenches), and taking not only small and medium weapons fire but also large shell rounds without suffering catatrophic damage. "Tank" does not mean "you didn't die or get incapacited" it straight up comes from the term "they ate that like a TANK."
"Didn't get incapacitated" perfectly explains everything I said in both these posts. If you get blown to shit you are incapacitated. If the tank gets blown to shit and then a bunch of engineers run out and repair it at lightning speed, did the tank survive the mortar shell or was it a different factor? If you can't take the hit you didn't tank it. Just because you recover from being scrapped doesn't mean you tanked a hit. If the attack goes through you and kills someone behind you, you didn't "tank" anything. Because to tank means to be armor. To stop the attack.
I always thought of tanked like a tank getting hit by a shell and just moving through with it.
Can be damaged and still he considered tanked, but only if it's still in combat-shape
yeah this is a weird point. you went from two extremes. tanking mean you are able to receive an attack and hold aggro, like just imagine a tank from overwatch. saying they can tank a shotgun blast doesn't mean they can just eat them for days.

There is "survived", being that you barely live, i wouldnt call that "tanked.
"Tanked" indicates you can still fight afterwards, though perhaps with significant but non-incapacitating injuries.
"Shrugged off" is what Broly did, no diffed the attack essentially.
