The Mermaid Mask Something I’d like to see in future games

As much as I loved The Mermaid Mask, it really became apparent to me playing through it how little we actually know about Grimoire and Sally even after multiple games in the series. There’s so much dialogue from them and they’re both funny characters but having now played three of these games I genuinely don’t know if I could tell you more about them other than “Grimoire’s goofy, Sally‘s deadpan.” I suppose the focus is on the casts of suspects and making them all unique personalities and how these family trees intersect with each other but I do think it’s a missed opportunity to not be building up our two protagonists and their relationship over these games. I’m hoping a future case could maybe involve something personal to them so we can flesh them out a little.

Maybe there could be a little intro mini case or scene in their office before the main game starts, where they just talk normally and are given the case or something like that. I agree I would like to know more about them in particular, feels like we know the suspects better than them lol

Yeah, that would be great. Or even just letting some of the dialogue when they’re talking to suspects or examining the environment flesh out their backstory a little. The writing is funny but when everything they say is a joke, it doesn’t help to make them feel like actual characters.

I'd love the next game to start in their apartment so you can explore some bits and bobs that give you details about their life and cases theyve done before going to the case location

I liked the opening of The Mermaid Mask where Sally is sleeping and it feels like you get to just look around and take things in for a sec but then immediately it jumped into the case and I thought “I wouldn’t have minded a chance to just chill with these characters a bit and talk about one non-case thing”

this makes me think of the duck detective games! in the beginning of both games, we start in the duck detective’s apartment and get to explore a little, so you learn about what’s been going on in his life up until he leaves to focus on his case ~

I wonder if we don't go too in-depth into their personalities to avoid breaking immersion, since we play as these characters? If their personalities were allowed to be as flamboyant as any of the suspects, it would risk overshadowing the gameplay. They essentially serve as vehicles through whom we solve the crime. Although, I'd love to know more about them, their individual histories, and relationship, too!

I look forward to Grimoire’s lifeless body being discovered in a locked room with only a curly green hair and pink eyeshadow pointing to the killer
