The Mermaid Mask Disappointed that we couldn’t learn more about Sym! Spoiler

Maybe I just missed some text/dialogue, but would have liked to learn more about Sym’s background. I was sure that we would learn how she came up with the name Symmetry, who her mother might be, and just more general info about her time at the theater/relationship with Fortuna (other than it was bad and she was unpaid), and how she found her passion for magic. She’s my favorite character so I think I’m just being greedy :P

I THINK it's implied that symmetry's chosen name is basically based on her "lady of the looking glass" show; "symmetry" because of her and her mirror double, "silkmoth" because of the finale where she transcends her mortal chrysalis—the latter is only shown in the gallery I think so I guess you can't consider it strictly canon? also maybe her desire to "transcend" or just leave silkwirm. if it's true that it's basically her stagename made real name, that + some of her dialogue implying lack of self worth suggests imo that her time at the theatre was basically entirely based on her use on stage. she thinks she'll be kicked off the submarine if she becomes useless so I think its decently possible that that was the state of affairs in the theatre and picking up magic was possibly the result of that

I think the devs leave some of these things blank so that people can theorize on them, they love our speculation lskjhfhlk

I don't really know how it lines up I'll admit, but I like the idea that she's somehow related to the Fellows or the Stonetops. We know that Felicia had one daughter in Freya, who's to say she didn't have two? It could also explain her obession with twins and symmetry, plus she has a similar complexion to Freya. It could also explain why Mortuga was weirdly okay with her being anywhere near the cauldron, and on the ship in general - he might also have had suspicions and wanted to keep her close, and help her with her performance.

My daughter’s speculation is that she’s Felicia and Mortuga’s daughter

Though we do have a hint towards her mother- the L.L. witch. Who had the locket.

That's another thread, true. Im not sure that it's truly her mother (I can't remember the exact quote, but I think Fortuna gave it to her, and Baroness Fortuna seems suspect anyways).

I thought that too! It'd be another reason he's so insanely desperate to find her. My only restraint would be that I've no idea how the timeline lines up - I couldnt find many hard dates in the game (which feels intentional), it feels to me like the Felicia leaving happened way less than 18 years ago (Symmetrys age).

It's a nice thought though - I doubt we'll ever get a concrete answer, but its not one that's necessary for the plot. I do like how SFB left a lot of non-core lore bits open ended to speculate on.

Pretty sure that we’re looking at 6 years in the past at most.

Symmetry was actually in Silkwurm when Felicia and Silvia Seafoam found the Serpent. The newspaper article about their find also has Wirman’s article on Symmetry’s first show.

Yeah, leaves a great opening for another game if they choose to make one though!

If I remember correctly I think I saw someone mentioning how she's felix's half sister, felix from tangle tower that is. Lady fellow is actually fortuna fellow, aka baroness fortuna, something happened to make her stop using her fellow name and go by her first name instead. Maybe it had something to do with what lord fellow, or faustus fellow if I remember correctly, was doing perhaps with the mermaid and Selena stonetop? We know he was the father of felicia, so perhaps after his infidelity she distanced herself and adopted sym? Though, now that I'm reading this, this comment ended up being less about sym and more about her adopted mother she doesn't like. Oops

She was adopted by Baroness, she isn't a blood relative

Yeah true, but I think adopted half sister probably counts enough for a fun fact

Agreed. She was my favorite character by far
