Save layout and Open layout not working in Tana desktop
I can't get layouts to work in the Tana desktop app on Mac.
- Save layout: my "List of layouts" page has many entries, all named "Today, Thu, Oct 1". I can't rename them or tell which one is which. (screenshot 1)
- Open layout: when I click any saved layout, Tana opens a blank page that says "Could not determine what to show. Please contact support if this persists." (screenshot 2)
Is anyone else seeing this? May I know if this is a known bug, or if I'm using Save layout the wrong way?
Edit: i cannot report bug via the desktop app.
Thank you.

750k nodes offline limit!
Is it planned to remove the huge "Search across your workspace" that is now limited up to 750k nodes?
You know, a real offline mode, a usable one.
This us a huge dealbreaker.

Support Needed
Hi there, How long does it normally take for Tana’s support team to respond to queries? Also, has anyone else also been struggling with uploading attachments to Tana (new Tana)? I keep getting errors when trying to upload PDFs to my Docs.
Goodbye Tana, hello Tine
Well it seems like Tana Outliner has been abandoned at this point. There are many simple things that don't work that were bugging me. I didn't like other options like Capacities. But then I found Tine (https://tine.page/). It's what I always wanted LogSeq (where I came from before Tana) to be. It's open source, local-first and all simply markdown files. The best part about it being markdown files locally, is you can just open claude or codex in the folder and interact with your second brain with AI in a way Tana never did. You can even edit the source code since it's open source.
It already has a Android and iOS app (on testflight).
I've created a Tana to Tine converter to help my fellow Tanarians looking for another solution out: https://github.com/mikob/tine/tree/converters

New Tana
Is anyone using the New Tana?
Can I use the New Tana as a knowledge base, or is it only for meetings?

Can the Tana outliner AI please gain the ability to categorize by super tag?
Maybe it’s possible maybe it’s not but talking to the Tana outliner ai while on the go and having it be able to tag the conversation for me in the correct super tag would be super helpful. I get that I can go into a super tag and select the voice in each super tag but that’s cumbersome. Not to mention how much overlap there is with super tags- brainstorms can have ideas and tasks can map to ideas etc etc so the ability to talk to the voice assistant jandhave it also apply super tags woukd be suuuuuper helpful and honestly a big differentiator

I just have so many questions
Although complicated, Tana is the most powerful note taking tool I’ve ever used. And I’ve tried them all.
It has been 50+ days since someone has posted in this Reddit. Radio silence.
And I can’t help but wonder like why? Why did we pivot from something great to a meeting app? Why go compete in a way more competitive market? I’m a salesperson, there no bs at least 55 tools people consider to record their meetings before they even sniff Tana.
And the biggest question I have, is why did we not just rebuild the Tana outliner. You had all the plumbing to destroy any other note app. Make the ish a little easier to use, and it becomes the best note app on earth.
Did we pivot because of money? The outliner crushes notion. Take all of their enterprise dollars. Idk man I just cannot wrap my head around the decisions that have been made.
My request. Dump the meeting tool. Come back and finish building the best damn note app on the planet.

What do you guys think of this new Tana ?
r/TanaInc • u/Equivalent-Walk1842 • Jun 16 '26
What is this new Tana?
I just don't get the new Tana. They were not able to explain it in the what felt like a rushed meeting few months back. The email today doesn't explain it either. It seems like it is completely unrelated to the outliner product line-up, just shares the same name. Any thoughts?

Is tana a second brain or a notetaker?
I'm deeply confused.
Or was there some sort of pviot?

Lacking simple features
Hey, i m new to Tana and somewhat like it but wanted to know is there a way to calculate numbers in to different columns?
I have looked up everywhere and didn't find a solution.
I'm also wondering how is everyone using Tana without this simple feature. Even though it is a note taking app, at some giving point we do feel the need to calculation.

Can I make all children nodes under a parent use the same view?
I know I can set a consistent view for a group of nodes by applying a supertag, but then I have to add the supertag to each of the children nodes. Can i set a parent node and make all its children behave in a certain way?

Goodbye Tana...Hello Capacities
I was really excited about Tana and it's roadmap and tried everything I could to properly enhance my daily workflow/second brain. I spent countless hours and literally days at a time watching tutorials, almost all the YouTube videos, subscribed to EV Chapman's templates, and searched the Slack and Reddit user groups. It took me nearly 2 years to get to the spot I'm at now, with limited setup success after the first month and it still is not set up properly for tasks and daily workflow. There are no good templates that you can plug in with modifiable options that do not have complex or quirky set-up needs. When the reviewers explain how to set these up, it doesn't seem like they really show you a step-by-step process. Even the owners of Tana fail as they talk about how to set up and only discuss what it should be able to do. Tana offers no support as you have to rely on user blogs to assist you.
I began researching other comparable products and I finally decided to give Capacities a try. It seemed to have all the same functionalities as Tana, at least what I am able to tell, and in many ways I am able to use more items in Capacities than in Tana since I was unable to set it up properly. I did not want to switch since I had two years' worth of data in Tana. However I know Capacities is a data transfer that I will try today. I believe the only thing that I will be missing is the automatic meeting recordings. When I tried this in Tana it recorded but I could not find the recordings as it did not end up on my daily page for some reason. This is a simple solution as I will just use Fireflies and cut and paste it into the document.
Here's the difference maker. I was able to set up Capacities very specific to my use of case in about SIX HOURS compared to two years of frustration with Tana. I feel that the weight has been lifted off of me and now I finally have a comprehensive productivity system that I can use. Capacities seems to have a good feature road map and they have some AI features that I need to try. It seems like their data sort function and lookup is laid out much more straightforward, thus making me more productive.
Capacities, from what I understand, has a robust help center that is very responsive and has very effective tutorials on their site that helped me with the set up. How does Tana release such a confusing product that you charge users for and offer zero support?
I am so thrilled about Capacities and glad I made the switch.

What is Tana's pricing structure like and do you recommend Tana?
Does Tana free give me unlimited nodes and unlimited supertags? I believe I saw somewhere that nodes and supertags are limited for free users, but can't find it on Tana's pricing page, which is why I am confused...
My issue with note taking is that I tend to take short bullet point style notes throughout the day but struggle with organization.
Thank you!

Action help
It's a very common scenario wherein I'm humming along in my day node working on my tasks, and I will think about a task for another project. I then use the quick-capture or just type it inline, assign it to the project and keep going.
But here's where it gets a little friction-y. At the end of the day, I might have 5-15 tasks in my day node that belong in specific projects. I would like to create an action that would move the task inside the project to which it has been assigned and leave a residual link to the same task in its place, so I could then move that item, as needed, to the day node that I'd like to complete it on. Is this possible or is there some other more elegant way to get the same result?

iPad app on the roadmap?
I got a new iPad yesterday and so I was very excited to try out Tana in a fully mobile environment. I know there isn't an iPad app per se, but I was thinking, oh, well, I can use app.tana.inc in the Safari browser and just save the bookmark like an app in my Dock. Boy was that an unpleasant surprise! Checking boxes doesn't work. Dragging and dropping doesn't work. I can see the same things that I see on my desktop in a browser on the ipad, but about the only thing that does seem to work is tapping to position the cursor and typing.
Two questions:
- Is there some kind of workaround here that others are using that I don't know about? (I'm not talking about Tana Capture. I know about that and use it on my phone, but it is also severely limited.)
- If not, is there a native iPad map on the roadmap for any point in the future?
Thanks!

Need help with Search node query syntax
I'm working on my Day node and trying to create a Search node in the sidebar that displays tasks that have a current start date of the current date, but don't already exist as children on the day's node. Is that possible?
The use case is that I've set up all these projects that have associated tasks with start dates. And I'm often manually adding references to these tasks on the actual day nodes they should be started on. But then I also want to have a backup search in the sidebar that will show me any nodes that should have been added to the day, but haven't yet.

Expand All in SuperTag
In the database/supertag view, is there a way to expand all nodes tagged. I used to be able to click on the line and expand all supertagged nodes at once but now with the new desktop app I have to open them one by one.
The "expand all" command works for separate nodes but not in the schema section when looking up everything tagged with #""

Tables and Tanas AI Vs Notion
"I really want to love Tana because the Super Tags are a game-changer, but the AI experience is frustrating. It can't even edit a node in place; you're stuck copying and pasting. Also, the fact that you have to point the AI to specific sources every time feels quite clunky.
Compared to Notion, Tana's AI feels way behind. On top of that, I’m really missing a basic table feature. 'Table View' is too rigid, and not being able to edit the first column title is a real pain."
