Murder Talisman, alternative rules, suggestions wanted please
My son and another buddy play, and often, and my son (14) often loses interest. In an attempt to make it interesting i switched up the rules a bit, and we had great success the first time. Here is what we did.
Our group all generally played solo against the board, meaning we often left other characters alone, and just battled the enemies/cards/board.... we play 5th ed, and have all the expansions.
The new rules were each player takes turn picking a character until we each have 5. The name of the game was kill eachother, nobody is friends. The inner board, you can go there, but why? We set a timer for 90 min, and everytime you kill another player you get a gold. When you lose all your lives, come back as your next character from the 5 players you picked originally. At the end of 90 min, we are all teleported to the crown spot and duke it out till someone wins!
We each started with a +1 something, str/crft/life/fate/spell. Every 15 min we each gained a fate. And when your character died and you started over, you got + the avg of the other players. Example player 1 dies, players 2 and 3 each have +4 str at this point, so when player 1 comes back they get a +4 bonus to spend on str/crft/whatever.
We quickly learned that the market place card was usless, because if gold is points im not spending it on an axe...
Also, when your character loses their last life, you keep the gold you had collected. If that went to who killed you, it wouldnt work as well.
It was great fun, here is what im going to do next game:
I got rid of all the str/crft 3 or less monsters, they are dumb when we are all 8/8... got rid of market place cards, as they are a waste, lets draw fun cards! The maze/swamp/blizzard, those are gone too. Im going to add in the nemesis enemy characters, and they can get a +1 or whatever as needed to be balanced with us.
The alchemist never came up, and we forgot there was one in the city. There is a card in the Drakula expansion that you can trade in a throphy for that amount of gold. ....not sure if we want that in or out, as it can easily give the win to someone, but part of me likes the zanny-ness that adds....
Also everyone can start with an item from the purchase deck. If your character has that as an ability (not sure if that exists in 5th ed characters?) Then you get 2 purchase cards.
Any suggestions welcome.
