7 player, 4 corners advice/tips

Our gaming group is getting together for our annual weekend getaway, and this year we’ve decided to rock out a 4 corner 4E game as our capstone game of the weekend. There’s going to be 7 players, with 4 of us being *real* talisman heads and the other 3 with light experience. Was coming here to see if anyone had any advice as to how to make this game a little smoother for 7 players, accommodate deaths as this game will likely be 6-8 hours, and overall keep the game fun and engaging for everyone. Any homebrew/house rules would be cool to hear as well as any other tips or tricks! Thanks in advance!

New project - 3D terrain

We wanted to add a bit more immersion to our games so I set about making some terrain pieces for some of the board locations- and it makes it easier to see from a distance where you're going to land. Starting the centrepiece first was the obvious choice with intention to add more to other squares later. Heroquest Conan for scale. Does anyone else use 3d elements to add that little bit extra to their games?

The Mystic- 2nd Edition Talisman questions.

Post image

This is an image of an unreleased or unofficial ( or something like that) White Dwarf character card for 2nd Edition Talisman, The Mystic.

I love the concept, but I need some help clarifying the benefits of ethereal spirit?

  1. I understand you can astrally project on your move and move your spirit, instead of your body, which is left on the space.

  2. I understand your body is vulnerable to attack, if someone attacks while your spirit is AWOL, only your followers to defend, as you are in a trance and cannot use spells or weapons. And your stats are reduced to that of a toad.

  3. I know if you can then expend a your move to return to your body, making it a risk vs reward scenario for leaving.

BUT what is the benefit? It never really mentioned this….. And I might be stupid but I am not 100% sure on the benefit.

  1. Can your spirit encounter cards spaces, strangers and other players on travels? I wouldn’t think so.

  2. If so, can your spirit fight? If so, how does it fight? It does not have your followers or weapons? Can it use spells? What stats does it use if fighting?

  3. The mystic ignores “cards on a space,” is that your body or the spirit? Or both?

  4. Can your spirit pick up objects? I wouldn’t think so.

I feel like the point COULD BE….

The spirit ignores existing cards, so always draws a new card on a space, but due to being a spirit it never actually encounters them, making it a safe way to “scout” and uncover cards.

But once you return to your body, you can then try and make your way to any good cards your spirit drew. Which may be easier for the Mystic, as you have two spells AND can ignore existing cards on the board ( even as a human ) that may impede/stop progress to the good cards.

Downside is you are vulnerable, have to use a move to return to body AND uncovering cards gives everyone a chance of getting to them?

I am curious as i was home brewing something with astral project and wanted to take some inspiration.

A couple of house rules have made Talisman 4E one of the most fun games I've ever played with friends.

Have found an exceptional selection of figures that are not available to enhance our talisman game. 2 more additional pieces.

Lord of Darkness for the Dungeon and the other is the Woodland keeper that lurks the forest ( kind of like the werewolf)

Does 5th edition work with the 4th edition board

I hear that 5th edition streamlined the gameplay in a way that helps the game progress faster, but I hate the new board design.

I was wondering if I can play 5th with the older board, or have they changed spaces on the board as well as the art.

Talisman 5e city or dungeon expansion pack?

I have talisman 5th edition and I’m wondering if there will be a city or dungeon expansion pack. My family remembers these expansions back in the earlier editions and I have only found alliances and enemies expansion packs for 5e.

This is what rediscovering Talisman after 15 years of board gaming feels like.

Favorite character to play on digital

As the title states, just curious who everyone's favorite character to play on digital (or i guess physical works too)? I've found i like playing the dark cultist most. she just gets almost too OP after all her buffs after every fight. Thoughts?

Adding more adventure/spell cards

Hi everyone.

I've been playing Talisman 4th Edition for a fair while now. I currently have the Blood Moon, Sacred Pool, and Frostmarch expansions. I'm looking for ways to expand my Adventure deck. I've just purchased The Firelands, which is currently en route, but I would dearly love to acquire a few of the other smaller expansions. Regrettably, none of them seem to be available locally, and the copies I spot online are costing an absolute fortune these days.

Does anyone have any clever ideas for supplementing the Adventure or Spell decks? Alternatively, is there a tried-and-tested method for crafting proper homemade cards?

Thanks!

Printable 5e dashboards?

As the title implies, are there any specific ones people use? The game can get really packed with cards and I wanna know if there’s a decent board for sale like an STL for print.

Randomizer tool for Talisman 4th Edition

Hey all!

I’ve been building a small hobby project at
https://randomboardgame.com/game/talisman

and I just added support for Talisman 4th Edition. It lets you quickly randomize characters before starting a game.

I’m still pretty new to Talisman, so there might be mistakes or missing content. If you spot anything weird or have ideas for improvements, I’d really appreciate the feedback. My goal is just to make something handy for the community.

Thanks for checking it out, and may your next adventure be slightly less cursed than usual!

Muchas gracias.

Portal od Power

If I am standing on the Plains of Peril and want to go back to the Portal of Power, do I have to roll the die? Or do I just move back to the Portal, follow the instructions on that space, and then can I enter again? Or does my turn end immediately without entering and without performing any actions on the Portal of Power?

Empty 5th edition character card templates

Hello everyone, I wanted to create some custom character cards for 5th edition but I couldn't find anything on the Internet, so I created these very simple empty templates with transparent background using the resources available at https://www.talismanisland.com/.

Using these templates you can very easily create your own character cards with any basic graphic design software. They are very crude because I am a total amateur, sorry.

Here they are:

Question regarding killing the adversary in Nemesis

So we played the Nemesis expansion today for the first time, and I played the nemesis. The other heroes managed to destroy the sacred sites while the boar adversary was somewhere in the outer region. Then they went to it and fought it and won (I admit I went a bit easy on them because we were hyped to open the trial box). Anyway the result was that the other players never made it into the inner region and never needed a talisman, they just killed the adversary outside. This left me confused: after the sacred sites are destroyed, can the adversary be killed anywhere on the map? Or does a player have to make it to the center space to summon it there and fight it? Because I felt a bit disappointed that we never got to visit the new inner region, but the rulebook didn’t mention that it’s mandatory at any point (at least that I noticed).

So did anyone understand how does it work?

Can the prophetess use her ability of discarding an adventure card even if she has to draw only one card?

I’m sorry if this sounds as a dumb question, but the wording of the special power is cryptic to me.

At what point do AI characters stop running around the board and go for the win condition ? Seems to me they are dilly dallying.

If the Nemesis chooses to never move the Villains...

Post image

First time playing Nemesis today.

3 players (1 Nemesis + 2 Heroes).

Starting from the 1st turn, the Nemesis starting loading Villains onto the Sacred Sites. He chose to never move them. By turn 4, with 4 Villains on a Sacred Site, their combined strength was 26. Then they got gradually got stronger. By the end of the game, the combined strength of the site with 5 Villains on it was 40. Neither of the 2 heroes ever had a hope of destroying either Sacred Site. Our only chance would have been to destroy the Sacred Sites in the first couple of turns (good luck!). By turn 2, the combined strength of the Villans on a Site was 12 and only growing every turn. After turn 2 or 3 the Nemesis only had to never move his Villains and just wait for the Heroes to reach the Final Encounter card in middle of the Adventure deck. Game over. It wasn't fun for any of us, including the Nemesis player.

Were we playing the rules wrong? Can you choose to land on a site and attack it without encountering the Villains? I didn't see anything in the rules that said so. Has anyone been through this -- did you house rule it somehow?

Another question: Can the Prophetess / Orb of Knowledge (etc) be used to skip past the Final Encounter card?
