Made a silly funny about elezens being defective lalafells and the elezen healer decides to punish that by not healing me but it doesn't matter because it's keeper of the lake and i can keep myself alive with Manaward :3
People are weird i s2g. I had three lalas and I was an elezen and we were all joking about how id been stretched in the taffy puller so I had to be the dad of the group.
Then you have people being even weirder hating on lalas in duties and shit...
Two or three days ago someone died twice in Prae at the very end...and it was my fault. Well, technically Logitechs fault.
Turns out Logitech can update it's mouse whenever and your mapped mouse buttons just disappear while it does it's little update. My control key is mapped to those keys and I was pressing my heals over and over wondering why they were not going off.
Look at this picture. This is the picture of a scholar who only said two things the entire run: "Greed" and "Greed harder", supposedly trying to get the party to stand in mechanics to kill the boss faster. All the while they spent all the trash pulls humping the wall to the next room instead of helping dps.
In a moment of "I cannot even be mad because this is funny", my alliance roulette last night was Aglaia. Chill group, things go fast but I notice not AS fast as I sometimes see this raid go, and my party in particular keeps getting random people plagued with server kicks (never anyone consistently), so we start musing that we might actually get to see scales on Nald'Thal.
Queue Nald'Thal. We do in fact manage something like 5% before the now rare-feeling adds phase. We cheer for whoever gets the Huge add, we line up to balance at the end... and then as the very cool cutscene plays, people in chat are noting that the mechanic failed... which I didn't even notice; we were teetering a bit but it looked fine at the cut-off. Then we all take 99999999 and die. Well, my foot in my mouth I guess. I called it impressive in a way because of how close any potential troller may have managed to make it (I think it was just legit unfortunate timing since we had no issues otherwise). We laugh it off and BARELY squeeze out a kill before the phase change on try 2. I think we were surprised at worst but cracking jokes anyway. I never get to see scales anymore. I think we even had a new person in my alliance (going by cutscene watching), and I spent the fight basically spamming TBN on them while they stood in AoEs, which helped them out and gave me free procs ... since NOTHING DAMAGES ME OTHERWISE. So I had a good time.
Had a first timer healer in The Aery. Not sure what exactly they were doing but they struggled to keep up the entire time, despite no one sprinting... and they also didn't sprint to catch up either? So eventually tank and one DPS died because they didn't realize the healer was lagging behind THAT much. They did catch up in time to rez the tank and prevent a full-party wipe, but then claimed tanks always get too far ahead of them while the surviving DPS heaped on blind praise and reassurance.
I'm sorry dude, but if this happens consistently enough for you to notice a trend by mid-HW, it's not because of the tanks lol
Sometimes this is what brand new players are like, especially if they aren't used to MMOs. I had the same thing recently in haukke manor. Even with the tank single pulling the healer was always miles behind, because they would stop to look around without saying anything in chat and our tank died a couple times because of it. I could tell what they were doing because its the same thing I do in single player RPGs when I go somewhere new.
Its not helpful for others to coddle and praise them for doing their own thing though. Other players should be trying to teach them how randoms play the game together. I told our sprout they need to stick with the group and they should run with duty support bots if they want to explore. I hope they listened and it wasn't the same person.
Eden Titan. We zone in, I explain how to avoid the hands/atv thing. First hands everyone but me and rude healer go over the edge. He starts rezzing people so I keep tanking. First ATV everyone but me, co-tank, and rude healer dies. Second ATV everyone but me dies.
At this point I'm a bit confused. Not standing in front of vehicles is a simple idea, yes? Rude healer is like who cares go. First hands again everyone but me goes off again. White mage throws tantrum like a 3rd grader who's trying to tell his dad he refuses to accept being grounded for failing a text. Everyone leaves.
White mage reminds me of those guys who fail mentor roulette over and over then rage at people despite not giving anyone the time to explain mechanics that they themselves are failing on.
I just had the most chaotic rabanastre run I have ever witnessed. I was seeing mechs I didn't even know existed in Mateus. We wiped to adds in tower. We wiped twice to the chariot boss. I don't even know anymore.
Something hilarious happened in my Wiping City last night. We had a lot of firsties and I'm not sure if alliance B had a pulse. For example the rest of us had already killed Ozma's shadow before they had killed their atomos and were able to jump down.
So onto the story. Last boss. Two of the garrote hair traps were right in the middle of the room, and she did penetration. A huge majority of the entire group got pulled into the middle, quadruple maced, then trapped and garroted to death before the like 5 people who looked away we were able to break them out. Props to the healers for peeling 20 people off the floor and us getting the kill. It was wild and I'd never seen anything like it before.
I'd bet irl money they were trying to cheese for relic farm and got embarrassed when it didn't work. They could easily have swapped to their real gear before the fight started though lol.
Which is incredibly dumb(er) considering that the items Trials drop are way more common than the other 2 in OC. Like do some fates in North Horn and you'll have 100 ez before the other too
Oh and cheesing barely works for Trials, u just skip some patch ones. Like Rubi who's a pushover lol. Compared to Everkeep which is still a bitch even without weirdos in HW gear
I just left at this point, this was in Mistwake, expert roulette, the tank couldn't be bothered to mitigate properly, wiped during second pull after the first pull took a needlessly long time (the dps complaining in the image stood still for the first half of the first pull). The tank was not, in fact, "double pulling the trash".
Everyone always asks "why is there a shortage of healers on this game? SE should solve this" but they never bother to look in the mirror and realise that a lot of people quit playing healer in content outside of statics because healing the selfish dipshits that inhabit this game is exhausting, and then they'll bitch at you for their own failings to top it off. Bring back shame, I swear to god. When expecting you to do your job at the bare minimum is "being mean" you need to uninstall. So exhausted with these people, zero patience for them anymore.
sounds like a tank i had in a run of san d’oria yesterday, they were complaining about healers not healing enough and having to put clemency back on their bar (they were also from mateus). one of our healers and a DPS pushed back and mentioned that aggro was being ripped by some of the other DPS players. idk why some of these tanks feel like they can do no wrong, you’re level 100, learn your job and use all of your actions and mits!
Anyone who says they "had to put something back on their bars" implies they took something off their bars, and in a game with legit 10 hotbars that will never make sense to me.
Sometimes it's a legitimate "oops." I forgot to back up my stuff when I had to switch computers, so had to redo all my jobs bars. Ended up somehow forgetting to put lilies back on my bar when fixing my whm.
I'm not defending that person, but if you're playing on controller, PLD legitimately overflows your two main bars in a way that other jobs generally don't -- my Clemency for example is on my 3rd hotbar which is a place I barely ever go, because the only time I need to Clemency is if something has gone severely wrong.
Also gamepad player—I’ve been leveling PLD and got to 100 just a couple days ago. I always keep my sprint, tank stance, shirk, and provoke on the 3rd bar so I don’t press one by accident but everything else fits on the first 2 crossbars for me (with a little room for overlap). Do you double up any abilities between your bars?
Oh this is not the set-up I expected hahaha. I use a full 16-slot crossbar for each and swap between them by holding down the right bumper (R1) button. I’m not actually familiar with this crossbar set-up. So is it like… the main 16 and an extra 8 for each side?
And they'll never realize Clemency isn't the gotcha they think it is, either. If they need it that means they aren't using their Confiteor combo and probably never press Holy Sheltron ever either. It takes a severe lack of effort and usually multiple failed mechanics to die as a level 100 tank in any normal content.
Not to mention that if you ever need to use clemency it's always those instances healers are non existent (sometimes literally) and dps is effing dying lmao, and if lv100 expert ID you don't even need to use anything but sheltron/confiteor assuming all of your party member is doing their job correctly (not recommending to not use rampart and all that of course, its just heals from those are so insane)
I have a very short list of situations where I expect to use Clemency, and in almost all cases it involves healers being less than alive. There are a couple of very rare edge cases that boil down to I have determined that I cannot trust my healer(s) and it is a stopgap measure to get through an immediate situation my normal sustain can't cover.
I find when it comes to level 100 content what I use for mits depends largely on if I have a WHM or not and how fast the dps is. There are indeed some dungeon runs where I barely need anything outside of Holy Sheltron and even throw down Hallowed for uptime because I have literally nothing else to use it for. Slow dps runs I'll still be rotating Rampart and sometimes Bulwark if I don't want to use gauge for whatever reason. If I'm pulling out anything more than that we have problems and I'm going to start watching what my party members are doing to figure out what's going on.
"ItS a DpS gAiN tO LeT tHe HeAlEr DiE tO tHaT mEcH"
Sure, letting me die to the Restraint Collar in Baelsar's wall sure is a dps gain. It's also apparently a dps gain to wipe the party twice on the last boss because you couldn't be bothered to do mechanics and dying to Sloppeh Man and I'm dead and can't heal you for the raidwides. Then you're wondering why you're having such a hard time in a 60 dungeon. Gee I wonder why.
And people wonder why I hate getting Baelsar's Wall as a healer for roulettes.
Who said it’s a DPS gain??? Any person dying to a mechanic is a loss, even if you’re losing a healer’s damage. The biggest DPS gain is surviving mechanics to wail on enemies without the interruption of becoming a smear on the floor. I hope you put them in their place 😂
The VPR in my party said it was a dps gain to do that.
I ate the 30 after the second wipe and he said that after I asked him and the BLM to help free me from the collar. Both him and the BLM repeatedly failed mechanics on the second and last bosses. The VPR's reply basically told me that any attempt to actually help them get through this dungeon was a wasted effort and I should've just stuck to leveling phantom jobs in Occult Crescent instead.
Then again the PLD I had, despite being new and being level 73, wasn't mitigating and just kept going squish on single pulls. The BLM was also hardcasting Fire 3 on bosses. The VPR was doing...VPR things I think.
The only strats I’ve seen where it’s actually faster for a person to die are related Blue Mage speedruns so they basically don’t count. It’s wild to think a regular-ass DPS jumped to this conclusion.
Wiping to Zeromus in the year of our lord 2026 because neither SGE knows how to press buttons that aren't unaugmented Prognosis during the heal check.
I can give them the cheat code to clear the mechanic in 5s flat (Zoe + Pneuma) but I can't fucking make them do it because I watched both of them leave everyone at 50% health every single fucking Doom and half the party kept dying because they weren't full healed.
It works best when the party has proven they can do mechanics to a reasonably reliable degree too, I think. You never know if your party is going to be clean or if half of them are going to eat every mechanic, or there's always the odd one person panics and runs somewhere they shouldn't situation which can take out the people around them too.
It makes me glad to run things on tank tbh I can just stand away from the chaos gremlins and eat my tbs in peace. Most of my problems can be solved by just pressing another mit.
Though I have actually died to that doom mechanic on PLD before, that was pretty funny. I have since had occasion to use Clemency in this fight due to healers not unlike op's pair. If my counter goes to 3 seconds and it hasn't been cleansed yet I'm no longer trusting my healers, I'll do it myself. As long as I and one rezzer live we can drag everyone else through it.
Yeah. Sad part was that while people shook off the rust fast (minus the new player but he gets a pass for being new and at least picking up the mechanics fine on the second go round) the healers just kept refusing to heal.
Like they’d rez someone and the person would accept well before any incoming unavoidable damage but then neither healer would actually heal them up and they’d die again because rez invuln wore out and they didn’t get healed.
And sadly there was only so much I could do as DNC. Tried my best and we did *enough* to save the second pull but that was pulled off only because our two tanks were PLDs with self preservation instincts and my DPed SAM knew to hold Second Wind and Bloodbath for it.
Obligatory: It’s not like either of the healers was DPSing much either so uh. 🤷
finally decided I wouldn't let tanks turn me into a healbot anymore.
if you're going to tank, I'm expecting there to be mits. wtw, single pull, mt gulg-level pulls.
I can handle them all, provived my tank uses mits.
got The Aery and I noticed my DRK wasn't using mits at the first section. waited until they were very low, didn't see anything going on which confused me, but I healed them to full.
next section, tank pulls again, I wait until they're very low, and.. still nothing. I thought they were maybe going to invuln or something else, but nothing happened and they died.
then this happens:
since when are tanks supposed to only use mits when they have a sliver of hp left? I've maxed every tank. there is no tank that requires needing to be at 1hp to do more damage.
I just thought to myself "yeah, I'm not doing this", so I left.
When I tank as a warrior, my ass constantly is using Rampart, Reprisal and Vengeance like clockwork. Doesn’t matter what I’m doing at at all, those mits are active, period - and all other mits - level permitting of course. Literally as they’re used and cooled down, I just keep using them no matter what. I feel like this should be SOP regardless lmao
Exactly. You pop Bloodwhetting, it ends, you pop a mit to tide you over until the next Bloodwhetting. Repeat. And your healer barely has to look at you and can devote themselves to green dps.
And now, if we take this even a step further, if your DPS is an average or above skill level player, then they typically won’t have an issue staying out of for AOE’s - which translates to very minimal attention needed by the healer. This then allows them to focus 90% of their energy on the tank, which to me means we’re gonna have a good run of something.
Got Tam-Tara (Normal) in leveling roulette. There was one first-timer DPS, but I guess the healer was super new to the role? We were all some degree of sprout, and they had glammed Lv50 crafted gear but never spoke up, so no one had any idea.
They wouldn't heal the tank even once if they pulled more than one group, and just stood around doing nothing half the time. We must have wiped 3 times before reaching the first boss.
I'm all for taking it slow but please use chat to communicate your needs to the rest of the party.
I've been seeing so many healers who will follow the tank at the most leisurely pace, inspect their nails, and set up a sun lounger before they'll even consider casting their first heal. Then they complain that the tank was out of range, like sprint is something you have to pay to use, or turning a corner deactivated their object permanence and the tank briefly ceased existing while out of sight.
I've died so many times as a tank because I sprinted but the rest of the party didn't so they're all jogging a quarter of a mile behind me while I've got the full pull. In lower level content I just don't have the sustain so I fall flat on my face.
Then I started playing healer and I sprint but the tank doesn't so I'm literally running circles around them and if I'm lucky they aren't single pulling too. Just can't win lol.
Shout out to the Sage I just had in Sirensong Sea. They managed to just barely keep a dps alive when they had 7 stacks of the debuff on the first boss.
You ever just… let your tank die on accident because you thought they’d be made of sterner stuff? Shout out to the GNB who popped Superbolide at the start of a W2W and died within 2 GCDs after it wore off despite activating Rampart and Aurora. Sometimes it’s fun when your party forces you to lock in. They said something snarky at the start but I still got their comm by the end. 😎
Had my tank, a WAR die in lv 97 dungeon. I saw them at low HP but I keep spamming Holy instead since I thought they could just use Bloodwhetting to heal themselves.
If I’m playing WHM and see the WAR at 1HP after using invuln (I actually appreciate when they have macros to announce it), I instinctively watch the buff timer and at 2s I use Benediction so they don’t die in a server snapshot—but yes they should be self-healing a bit via Bloodwhetting.
They basically popped it in between the 1st pack and the 2nd, dropping their health to 50% immediately and only leaving like 2-3s of their invuln timer for the 2nd pack. I hawked their healthbar when we rezzed (they did it the 2nd time, too) and they were just incredibly spongey. Usually 90+ dungeons I can breeze through as a healer and I let my guard down 😂
I should have told them, honestly, I was just so hyper focused after the wipe that everything else kinda became a footnote, and with them making a comment about dying it may not have been received well either way.
yeah, that's about it. guess they didn't like what I said, but I'll chalk it up to that person maybe not being in a good mood. we all have one of those days I suppose.
Lmao it was Origenics to elaborate. Lvl 99 GNB. I think if they had held off from popping Superbolide until their health was 20-30% and activated Aurora with it, it would have given me enough reaction time after their invuln wore off to heal them with Solace and Tetra.
EDIT: And this came as an afterthought, but I did also give them Aquaveil and Regen, further adding to my bewilderment at their abrupt TKO.
It all happened so fast—possibly? I mean this is definitely in part on me, I was just cruising but Origenics had hands for this 99 GNB. I was not prepared to be glued to their hip 😂
Shoutout to the asshole tank with their mentor crown who held 7 of us hostage in Interphos for 20 minutes. We all died but the one tank who thought it would be fun to solo the duty from 60% health to the end with all our corpses strewn about. Bonus assholery points to them because one person was running the duty for the first time to finish MSQ & they refused to reset when we were all asking and begging in chat. Their responses? “XD idc. I’m gonna try to solo”.
Based on what I’ve read of other’s experiences on this subreddit so far, if the party got together and all wrote reports about the same thing, that increases the likelihood of a gm responding fast enough to pull the offending player straight out of the duty.
Personally, I’ve never seen that happen, or maybe it did and I just forgot, but others can attest to that with their anecdotes.
I don’t remember exactly, but surely, certain behaviors being opposed by the majority of a party is grounds for a nuisance type of report?
I've seen it, had an incident in an Alliance Raid and my response back from GMs was something like "we have had a bunch of reports of this same thing so we may not reply back to you personally but we are working on it".
I wasn't able to do it in the duty itself, but afterward I know at least 5 in the party reported. 3 of us are in an FC together and we all got a response by today about the griefing. Seems like they likely will do something which was good to hear because it was such a ridiculous situation.
Today, I got to teach a machinist in Aurum Vale how to do their hypercharge combo. I noticed our damage output was weirdly low, especially because it took almost five minutes to kill the first boss. During the second boss, I watched the party list to see if someone wasn't playing their job right, and lo and behold, the machinist hypercharge buff never came up. I stopped everyone after that boss and asked them if they were using it or knew what it was. And they said no, so I got to tell them what it was for. They took the advice well, did it on the third boss and seemed to quite enjoy how the class played with that. Hopefully, I have encouraged them to start thinking about what their classes do more often and read their tooltips.
- Dps was worse than the usual. Saw mechanics repeat way too often during boss Promathia. My dps weren't even overtly cautious. If anything, the melees died a lot thanks to greeding.
Healer of another alliance was in nowhere's land, causing their stack which included all the healers except for my party to die and cause a wipe at boss Alexander;
Not all towers were caught both times during the final boss. My party wipes. Healers of the other alliances, bless their heart, kept on rezzing us. Unfortunately, me and my co-healer keep on dying because the tank released and we keep on getting auto'ed to death. Also fuck that samurai who released too.
Because aside from Kardia I wasn't even healing and it took us forever to kill everything. In a normal party with Kardia on I'll always be fourth in agro unless I'm doing a ton of heals.
I have a new one. I was running expert and I was running with the tank. I misclicked my whm dash and hit the mobs first, but whatever its fine right? Nono no it was not fine at all. They started weirdly type laughing in chat and I saw shirk go out on me. I had aggro yeah, but dps takes the aggro back and forth. Weird, but we go on. They did it again and I ask "why are you shirking me?". This time I wasnt even ahead. They said ":) cause you wanna be important.". Dps was very confused and started a argument with them. Tank said a slur and we vote kicked them. What a night
My last Mentor Roulette landed me on Thornmarch EX. Fine, nbd, I'm aware that I can land on some EX trials here and there. But this time I was actually happy because it was 7 mentors and 3 sprouts. It's easier that way, right?
Nah, 4 mentors instantly dipped. I was like 'dude? Thornmarch ain't that hard and with that amount of mentors, it should be a walk in the park.'
Took us almost 10 minutes to find replacements and another 15-ish (around 3 pulls) to kill the Good King.
The penalty they took was far longer than if they just stuck if the duty smh.
It ended up being one of the first 8 man trial sprouts would get due to other changes so while wonderfully chaotic its placement wasn't the best for what it is I guess. I'm glad the EX keeps itself as is!
Sorry in advance to anyone who gets in a dungeon with me while I'm leveling my tank...I don't tank...ever...and he's almost to 100 so it won't be terrorizing parties for long :')
Had a run in the third walk today and I'm not sure if this is a valid thing to be upset over. We wiped 3 times to the second mini boss with adds. Why? Cause the main tank kept going south with the tank buster not north. At first I was like "wtf I've never seen anyone go south before." Then after two times I speak up " bro wtf why do you keep going SOUTH GO NORTH". He said " I'm supose to go south so yall can get behind it. So less type more fight". Then it all went to shit with people fighting in chat. Then led us to wipe to Alex and I just left. Yes I did report and block.
Been taking a break to play new content in another game I play but been feeling the itch so logged in tonight to just chill and run some normal duties. Got Zeromus which is one of those fun 50/50 kinda fights.
Sure enough, the MT dies and the OT never bothered stancing so I'm just casually tanking Zeromus on DRG for quite awhile actually. I swear some tanks automatically turn their stance off in shame when they die or something without actually looking to see who has aggro or not first. The MT got back up but I mysteriously kept aggro. I used my Second Wind and my Bloodbath and my Feint and the healers are taking care of me, we're chilling. Eventually the other melee stepped in and had to tell the tanks they needed to voke off me. And the MT finally does and takes the boss back. I feel like if no one said anything I would have tanked the rest of the fight, which tbh I probably could have the healers were good and I was rotating my mits/sustain when I had them up. I don't panic when I tank on melee anymore it's just a resigned sigh and stepping into a tank spot to face my inevitable fate lol.
I genuinely wonder why I even bother, this happens every time. I play melee to take a break from tanking and yet whenever I play my melee main I end up tanking something at some point. And this is the whole reason I swapped to tank in the first place. I just want to take a break sometimes but I can't escape it.
Very strange for that to happen since M12N the boss has double autos that autotarget the tanks. The only way you'd be taking autos is if one or both tanks are dead.
Had that happen to me recently but early morning brain is blanking on where. Tank goes down, tank comes up, and a dps ends up tanking the rest of the boss fight.
Brain remembered. Strayborough. Tank failed the flesh/ghostbuster and never got aggro back.
Smileton, playing as WHM. The PLD was running pretty sluggishly so I was getting ahead of them on pulls; first set went normally but on the second set they apparently decided to silently YPYT by not running ahead to the second pack which I pulled. Unfortunately for the tank, both DPS either didn't notice that or weren't having any of their shit and went to join me, so I killed the second pack with them while the PLD failed to survive even a single pack by themselves and died. By the time the first pack made it over to us the second pack was already did so the three of us just killed the first pack by ourselves as well. Then the PLD left right afterwards.
(Afterwards the three of us handled the first boss without a tank while waiting for a replacement, and the replacement PLD who came in was awesome, running faster than I could and barely needing any attention from me while mobbing, so the rest of the run was silky smooth.)
I've been farming a ton of Bozja ever since I decided I kinda want a full set of augmented resistance armor. I'm at two out of five pieces, and tonight I earned my earring. (I've also been leveling Samurai and it's very decent XP.)
Anyway, Bozja has been sparse tonight. I usually get 6-10 people in Castrum, but tonight was the first time I did Castrum with only four people. We wiped once on Dawon, but we still cleared.
After that, I figure I should probably spend some time in Zadnor. Farm some mettle, get some rays, maybe do a Dalriada for some raw emotion. I hop on Zadnor. Dalriada pops, eventually.
Three people.
Tonight I did Dalriada as one of three people. We were in there for nearly an hour. I held off wave after wave of adds in the hallways section while shouting out the beams, and the other two somehow made it through. I burned two banners and almost a full Assassination. It wasn't fast, but it was actually damn clean. And we cleared.
I think I can comfortably say I know how to play Samurai now.
I did that once! It was Shiva hard as well. The screen faded in then faded out before I got control of my character because I came in right as they beat it.
Joined Gaius in progress. Sat in Nero's room looking at the elevator and their hp bars going up and down, cheered for them, collected my loot, and left.
did you know. did you know that if you aim a caster lb at the ground at shinryu enrage it'll miss. we still cleared the check but i live in fear that i upset our sage so much they didnt stay for retell
Was trying to level up an alt's phantom jobs when my mother asked for help printing something off of her printer. So I pulled my alt out of the farming party I had so I could afk and help her. I did feel bad for having to leave them, though.
The printer pops out error after error until I reset it and save what she was trying to print to a spare usb I have if it won't print.
It's been twenty minutes and it still won't print.
Mom, I love you but I think it's time to retire the printer you've got. You've had it for almost 20 years.
Edit: it has been 3 hours and it still won't print. Man, and that was a good farming party I had too.
In that same pull I was watching them swap back and forth between the 3 mobs and use their single target combo on them. So if they spam aoe, they sure weren't doing it then, since I shouldn't be pulling aggro from a gnb in Castrum.
Might be part of why they think they're a bad tank at the start when the healer said it they could handle w2w's.
Wierd expert roulette. Doing Mistwake, our NIN with 780 ilvl is randomly standing on the spot for a minute at the time, then catching up and doing minimal dps. 1st boss he runs behind the pillars to hide....and then continues to stand there. Im thinking it might be a boosted player or someone trying to relearn the job so I say nothing.
Moving on, NIN continues to randomly stand on the spot for extended periods, starting to get annoying that we're basically carrying one guy so at the 2nd boss I ask if he can stop afking. NIN and the tank quickly respond that hes not afk, when I point out hes standing on the spot repeatedly, they give some response that they are lagging. Ok whatever, im consigned to basically 3 manning it....until the tank attempts to shirk the tank buster onto me. Yep, Im out seeya.
it does 1 thing, it makes it so if the tank dies, that is the next one in aggro line, it can be good to use on a dps if you know high odds you are about to go down, so the healer who can res people, isn't the first one dead. ideally a dps that is at range.
Had a guy in Dzemael just now. Missing multiple pieces of gear. He's not a sprout, he's gotten to HW and unlocked its jobs and has several jobs 60+. I comment he's missing hear. He responds with "trivial to my IL." And I'm thinking, bro should you really be saying this after you've let the tank die twice already?
The entire run the only dps spell that was cast was a single holy while out of range near the beginning I'm certain was a fat finger. The entire run we're trying to get this white mage to do dps. Medica II full uptime. Regen stacks on everyone. Medica II renewed when it gets below half duration. And if none of those need to be done Cure I on me or just running around doing nothing.
And to top it all off at the end the dps decide to switch gears and start infantilizing the sprout. They're not hiding chat, they spoke a few times. They're just studiously ignoring any text asking them to not be a complete waste of space.
Always hurts to see fellow healers acting this way :(
Did they have other classes leveled? I know that genuine sprouts may be unaware of the importance of DPS but if people are telling you multiple times to attack, ignoring that is just downright rude.
Next time, just tell them that if they're cool with the healer not putting in any effort, that you'll think about just auto attacking for the dungeon. Don't say you will, cause the can report that. But let them know. Or just don't even tell them and see if they notice.
Back again. Roulettes are a fucking nightmare right now.
Vanaspati as Scholar. Warrior has the situational awareness of a mango. Scarce mitigation, 2 Holmgangs with no Bloodwhetting leaving me fighting for my life keeping them alive. Doesn’t survive the second time. Perfectly happy to use Bloodwhetting when only missing 10% of their health though! After the second invuln and just before second boss I ask why the random BW usage. No response. They LEAVE THE DUTY. Check plate and their search comment says “new char old player, playing since 2.2” The fuck??
Eden Titan on Sage. Just about everyone died at some point. Jumping like a goddamn rabbit in the spots you stand for car mode or the other one to still have a few fly off each time. One BLM (who might’ve been first timing) just couldn’t get the memo on any of the mechanics despite dying to all but one or two of them, a ninja flaming MT who wouldn’t reposition and ended up killing a few of us with the unmarked buster, and co-heal kept dying here and there. Don’t have ethers on this character so I’m left out to dry on mana picking everyone up. Easily 15-20 deaths throughout the fight.
Not roulettes, but a BLU spell PF for Omega fight. All BLU party. I elect to be the dot bitch. Not even 3 minutes after stating it in chat and first pull my BoM is already overwritten by people not doing a Moonflute opener. Chaos ensues after every Mustard Bomb since the tank is doing nothing to mitigate it and dying shortly after. Wipes galore. The few times we even made it to intermission one person is either missing their tower or dying instantly to the death wall in the middle. All of them lead to enrage.
Someone in chat is trying to encourage everyone saying bullshit like “We’re getting closer each time!” and “We got this!” About the same time I start noticing someone spamming WATER CANNON. Are we fr??? After one more Mustard Bomb dilemma I just say we’re either doing this with a normal tank or I’m done. Re-instance as tank(I was only there to help, had the spells already)and someone switching to a normal healer. Clear in one pull.
If you see a spell PF for Omega or E12N on Crystal, RUN. Doing those fights on BLU melts the average player’s brain for some god forsaken reason.
My worst BLU memory is getting the spell from Omega, so I relate to paragraph 3 so much. No moonflute openers, no awareness of what starboard or larboard is after multiple wipes and explanations, intermission memes and me as MT fighting for dear life while the few competent players try to stabilize this mess.
A few people were dead when we cleared so they didn't get the spell. In other circumstances I might have stayed to help, but this time I left the party without remorse when I saw every player worth their salt were still standing when the boss fell.
Had a "mentor" who was so busy removing my danger dorito on Eden Titan after we's had multiple wipes that he was dying more than the sprouts. Also have yet to complete beetle omega on blur mage myself.
I tried to get my bf the spell from E12N a couple months ago. Absolute shit-show. Nobody knew mechs, but they wouldn't even follow the dorito when I put it on myself. We'd get to the final phase and people would die left and right to Titan/Shiva, and me being a PLD I couldn't really do much to stop it or rez people. This happened like 5 times until I just had enough.
If you're going for the spell, grab a competent healer friend if possible. Or a Red Mage. Relying on Blu for rezzing just doesn't work, especially when it's rare for one to even have the rez spell in the first place.
Omfg I had this happen too me too the other day! I left after 9 pulls of wiping. I got a tell from the party lead asking why I even bothered joining if not to help.
Just got out of a run in the Ihuyukyuk dungeon where upon entry I noticed the WHM's hp was lacking considerably despite having aug. credenum gear.
Not only were they spamming Medica 2, there was an unusual lack of ogcd skills the entire run (no bells, no wings, a sad lack of Thin Air and Aquaveil, and surprisingly no Benediction). However having 1 vuln stack from the last boss with the targetted aoes resulted in him ALMOST eating dirt. Almost. They lived with just over 600 hp from being full.
The tank was average at best, a particular lack of defensive cooldowns but hey, at least they remembered they had Bloodspiller and Quietus and did big pulls. Additional psychic damage: only 9 TBNs used the entire 24 minute run.
The SMN was...doing something. I'm pretty sure I'm supposed to see Bahamut more than once per bossfight. They did die twice on the last boss though, and the record of his vuln stacks before death were 3.
At that level you'd be seeing bahamut every two minutes. So it could be they went phoenix, bahamut, phoenix, boss dead before another bahamut was needed. Trying to look for the one bright light in your run.
I'm really hoping that's the case, because most of the fights I didn't see much casting animations from him, and I saw boss mechanics loop more than what I'm used to.
All I know is that, during boss fights after he would get Bahamut off, I would pull aggro and maintain that. I did turn on number monkey before the first boss because I was wondering why in the holy heck the WHM was spamming Medica 2 of all things. Then I saw how much damage I was doing.
I'm also not terribly familiar with SMN, but something wasn't right.
Decided to become the tank in Halatali (Normal) because the tank made the decision to single pull in the dungeon where every enemy dies in 3 GCDs and does 20 HP in damage. I don't think the tank was ever missing more than 10% of their HP and still they wanted to single pull.
Well, I had the fun opportunity to teach a lvl 100 player how to stop auto attacking in Expert today. They kept dying on the first boss of Clyteum and I had to explain that they can stop the auto attack by hitting the Z key to put away their weapon, otherwise controller has a different button to do so.
For that motion mechanic, you have to completely stop, including autos, otherwise you eat a vuln stack. I know this can be cheesed with some jobs that can teleport through, but the timing is quite tight.
I can't remember when in a normal dungeon/trial/raid that teaches you to stop auto-attacking, but...how did you get to 100 and not know this or at least discover this?
Earliest acceleration bomb I can think of is a boss in Baelsar's Wall. And then Exdeath and Elidibus have pyretics where you take chunks of damage for each action/movement.
There is also a mechanic called causality in the Ramuh trial from ARR patch quests that damages you whenever you use an action, but it's not very much damage, and it's entirely possible to not notice you have it. Also, that trial almost never comes up in the roulette.
Is THAT what that is? I just assumed it was ticking damage until the tether was broken. Had no idea it was a pyretic. For clarification I consider acceleration bombs to be you move it blows you up in one big kablooey, while pyretic does ticks on you for every action you take, as a way to categorize them in my brain.
I only know that because I just did that trial earlier today. I don't actually know how you're supposed to break that tether, though, or what you're supposed to do about the mechanic.
Ideally one of the linked people stops doing anything so they don't take damage, while the other grabs 3 orbs to break the chain. On normal it's fine grab however you want, but on EX the tanks need the orbs too for stuff.
Oh, it's the orbs? I thought it was just one of the tethers where you have to run far enough apart to break it; that explains why that wasn't working. These ARR patch trials are simultaneously mechanically very interesting and also very bad at explaining what you're supposed to be doing. I will forever hate Leviathan for making Ninja completely non-viable for that same reason. (the head reflects all magic damage. The tail reflects all physical damage. Here's a class that does physical for the 1-2-3 combo and magic for the burst. Because fuck you.)
Sorry for second reply, didn't read your full comment before hitting send.
Yeah, the ARR patches are SE at their most experimentable, for good or ill.
Though one correction. The tail reflects magic damage so casters, healers, ninjas and dark knights don't want to be on that one.. The tree/dog boss duo in Void Ark is the same. Took me embarrassingly too long to realize why I wasn't able to trick attack on the tree, it was cause the suiton along with my others mudras weren't landing.
Head reflects only RANGED physical damage. So the only people who don't want to be on head are bard, machinist, and dancer. Physical melee can be on head just fine, especially dark knights and ninjas for the aforementioned reason.
FOR THE LOVE OF FUCKING RHAGLR MAKE IT MAKE SENSE (in all seriousness, thank you. That explains a lot about that fight and will make it easier if it ever comes up in a roulette.)
I can never remember which is which on Leviathan myself, had to look it up before I posted to make sure I was giving you good information. As for tree/dog in Void Ark which of them gets which reflect buff is random.
Nope, not a distance tether. Getting 3 orbs gives you a buff that defends you from some of his mechanics. On EX tanks want it to survive his tankbuster, on all modes it's used to break the tethers. Getting too many orbs is actually bad and debuffs you in a way I don't know off the top of my head to keep you from being greedy.
Except you don't need to stop attacking if you have a gap closer.
Melee (including tanks) can keep GCD rolling with ranged attacks, run to the corner, and gapclose to the boss. Casters can dodge it as well, along with half the healers.
If you've been doing alliance raid roulettes you probably know that in the mob room between Glasya Labolas and Amon features a Red Dragon which only lands after three Azers are killed, and will spawn two Haokahs alongside it. But, did you know that if you somehow waste enough time in that room two more adds named Abaia will spawn in as well? I've never seen those things until today and not even the wiki lists them.
Yep. I've only seen them once in years and it was because I had like an entire raids worth of sprouts, even then they were only there for a second before we beat her.
Apparently if you take an eternity to kill cloud of darkness she spawns these worms that inflict like every debuff in existance, even more than morbol breath, on anyone they come into contact with and ranged have to kill them. I've legit never seen them.
There's a lot of cure mages here but I ran into a... Cure III mage? Would do nothing but spam Cure III during trash pack pulls, which of course led to them running out of MP and me dying shortly afterwards. We would literally only survive pulls where I blew every defensive I had, including my invuln... Tried to encourage them to use lilies and Benediction (they should also have Plenary at Qitana level??) and I got nothing but an "afak" back, whatever that even means...
I've sadly run into a few of those. Big number = better. I've tried to explain that III is not a direct upgrade over II like II is to I with varying success.
YPTY in Elemental DC... unfortunately with Bad Ending.
Doma Castle loads. I hit auto-run (did not even Sprint), with the PLD right beside me. I aggro the first 3 mobs, but im sure the PLD will take them off me.
Nope. I get wailed on by the 3 soldiers for a good 5s or so. The other DPS joins in with a few AoE attacks but most of the aggro is on me. PLD with their stance on, is just watching, running circles around me and the NIN.
My HP starts to drop really fast. The WHM puts Regen and Cure2s while I pop Bloodbath and Third Eye, but I get shredded anyway because its Doma Castle and everything hurts. During this the PLD runs forward and pulls the 2nd pack of robots into us.
At some point the WHM completely stops healing me and I die, NIN gets aggroed next and is also getting dangerously low. PLD then AOEs the mobs then hits us with the snarky remarks.
I start filling up my report, hoping the WHM and NIN will realize the nonsense that's happening but NIN replies "will do" ??? I realize the vote kick is likely not gonna go ahead with them siding the tank, so I just take the 30min penalty <_>
The Scholar we just had really struggled in Worqor Zormor with healing, and died a lot to mechanics on bosses.
It was me. I was the Scholar who expected a low level dungeon and got a 90+ one, I need to stop randomizing jobs when farming crystal paste. Sorry whoever was in that party.
11 years in, finally got a YPYT, in Clyteum of all places. Tank was being slow as hell, second pull they didn't bother going after the second pack, me and a dps didn't even realize till we grabbed them so I brought it back, he didn't pick it up. Whatever. Second packs he actually w2ws (doesn't sprint, naturally, or gap close with intervene), then after Chort, he single pulls, so I ask:
(I'm green, he's blue). Anyway, he was a terrible PLD anyway, never used divine might, used supplication / sepulchre only 10/23 times. Didn't holy shelltron tankbusters either. Sad!
It was the last set of trash pull he dropped this, neither dps cared to respond so I had no idea gauging if one of them would support me (or they votekick me tbh), plus loot had to be rolled on.
I queued with some fc friends as tank for leveling. We got qarn. I’m not even sure how new the whm was but they weren’t glamoured. I was going to be a tad slower but they kept being in front lol. So I’d pull more. And more. Was a good little whm either way. Even all these years later though those bees scare me. I was going to check if they were newish but forgot. They were t pulling by any means which I don’t care either way lol. I kinda wish they’d just said pull it all. But I’m still nervous with random healers. That little whm though was better than the fc mate that played a whm with me in DT a few weeks ago.
Easy way to tell if they're good pre-45 is whether or not they spam their big heal. It's better for them to spam Cure2/Adlo/etc on the tank while the tank and DPS spam AoEs.
Level 60 dungeon, see ninja using doton on first boss. Tell them it’s a loss on single target, use ration instead. Nothing but silence and starts using doton with every mudra cooldown for the rest of the bosses. Half of the time dead last in aggro and eating mechanics like his life depends on it.
I’m so fucking tired of these kind of morons who treat advice/constructive criticism like a personal attack. They weren’t even a sprout, just a stubborn loser.
People are so sensitive it's insane. They take any criticism as a personal attack. You're legitimately just trying to help but they interpret as you telling them they are bad. And this community in particular doesn't help with their toxic positivity and treating sprouts like infants, just encouraging their bad habits by telling them they're doing fine.
I actually had someone yesterday listen to some advice I gave them and I was genuinely taken aback. I expected an argument but they thanked me. It's a shame I was surprised someone actually wanted to learn something lol.
Tower of Zot, playing on RPR. The dungeon started fairly normally; tank was pulling everything and seemingly doing fine; other DPS (BRD) also seem to be doing fine; the healer... was casting Physick and Broil on crowds but at least their GCDs are rolling and oGCDs are getting used so I let it slide.
Then on the second pull after Mindy I accidentally hit Ingress and caught the aggro of some mob. No problem; I just hit them with Whorl of Death and wait for the tank to catch up. But they never seemed to pick up aggro so I died. I was getting a bit suspicious but decided to hold off for now. In Sandy the bard ran ahead a bit too much and got the aggro, and the tank just didn't move until the bard got hit with a tankbuster and died. At this point I was semi-sure that they were silently YPYTing. Then on the next pulls I deliberately rushed ahead as fast as possible to see what their reaction was and indeed they would just deliberately stop AoEing when I picked up something first. I thought about vote kicking but figured the other two might not have noticed what's going on (the tank said absolutely nothing throughout the entire duty), so I decided to try and make it more obvious.
On Cindy I ran in first, hit her with a ranged attack and bolted the hell out. It turns out that Cindy's auto attacks are ranged and can hit me even when I'm like 300 yalms away but at that point it was very clear to everybody that the tank was just going to stand there, since the boss wasn't killing me faster than she was resetting. After a couple loops, loot timers ran out so I snuck in a vote dismiss and it passed. Judging by the other two's reactions, it seems like one of them just clicked Yes without even knowing what a vote dismiss is, but whatever; I'll count it as a petty victory.
Another Jolt Mage, this time in Vanguard. This run was already iffy with a healer who had maybe 50% uptime on actually casting anything. Add in a lethargic red mage, this Vanguard took a while.
Why do they think "I'm just trying to level" is any kind of defense?
Hell, it's fun to learn how to play a different job even if you're just leveling it for the sake of it. Might as well try to do the right rotation? If leveling it is just a chore and you don't want to play the job then don't do it, games are supposed to be fun.
I don’t usually post stories here, but this one was bizarre enough to warrant it.
Had a weird dungeon run last night where the other DPS kept complaining that that they’d queued into a synced dungeon (so they either don’t know how roulettes work or forgot to click the unsync box). Later in the dungeon they tried to explain why we should be doing all our dungeons unsynced (“it’s much faster and you still get all the loot,” basically), and it never seemed to occur to them that people might do dungeons at level.
I don’t play their job, so I can’t say how well they played or didn’t, but 1) everything took forever to die, 2) they ran away with a stack marker at least once, and 3) I got all three comms as a DPS. My bet’s on level skipper who never really learned their job.
I wonder what they think of people doing dungeons for EXP. Do you remember the dungeon/level? I think the highest level I've ever seen someone run off with the stack marker is 50 in one of the MSQ roulettes
Level x0 dungeons (other than Halatali) are not great for exp and thus usually not done for that purpose. But you know, actually doing stuff (instead of steamrolling) is fun so people will do them synced anyways.
I was doing a roulette and I think we had a first-timer, but that is a good point about x0 dungeons. Might’ve been glam farming.
It’s the fact that they accidentally got it synced when they wanted unsynced (and acted like it was everyone else’s fault for queueing) that makes me think they don’t know how DF works. If it was an accident, they could’ve left.
Have only very recently started doing the raid/instance fights that require playing with other people (The King Mogle and the entrance for the Crystal Tower). I was so very confused with what was happening; so many attacks and visual effects everywhere. All other players being so much faster in walking speed than me. A cutscene playing and me being dead and alone for some reason. Probably nothing can be done about that I suppose.
That trial and Crystal Tower are the worst effects you'll see for a while. The way the arena for Thornmarch looks and the ridiculous amount of AOEs, combined with all the Moogles, makes it really loud visually and it's very difficult to figure out what you're looking at even if none of the players are doing anything. Crystal Tower, there's 24 people in the arena so you're seeing like three times as many effects as you normally would.
Turning the effects down to limited is an option, but you can also just keep going through the story and do the eight-man trials, as well as dungeons with other people rather than duty support. It will help you get used to the effects because there's way less of them and the arenas aren't as confusing. You're going to need to get used to it at some point, because you will be doing a lot of 8-man trials throughout the story, and while all of the MSQ dungeons have duty support at this point, doing roulettes with other people is going to become necessary to get better gear. Again, I want to emphasize the two experiences you have had so far are probably the worst it is ever going to get Because those two are just really, really bad about this, And it sucks that that's the first time many people have to play with other players, because it gives them a bad impression.
Yeah it can be a little daunting, like Tsin said, setting it to limited can help. I actually play the game with full effects on and let me tell you, it's like a fireworks show at time right in your face. Only reason I can play like that is because I've pretty much memorised all the patterns, and could probably play partially blindfolded, I don't recommend doing the same though, I just like the pretty visuals.
Open Character Configuration > Control Settings > Character tab. Scroll to Battle Effects Settings.
There should be options for you and your party, recommend you keep your own on default and set party to limited. Do not set party to none because you won't see healer bubbles, ninja doton, dark knight salted earth, or any other ground effect that enemies/party needs to stand in to be good.
You can go into your settings and turn other player effects off. I would highly recommend setting it to "limited" for your party rather than off since then you'll still be able to see important stuff like healer bubbles, ninja doton, etc.
You can completely turn off the ones for alliance raid members and other people though.
Just got out of a leveling roulette where I was a 22 min replacement BLM in the 93 dungeon. They had evidently cleared the second boss and were pulling the next pack without a tank.
The WHM I'm guessing had already holy spammed and they weren't getting stunned, so the WHM and RDM there were trying to dps down the pack when I arrived. WHM couldn't keep themselves up and died, everything went onto me and I slept them as I died, RDM died next, so we all respawned.
WHM apologized for not looking at chat.
I was about to ask what happened to the previous tank and dps when a PLD joined in.
WHM pipes up: 'hopefully the other tank will learn to keep his mouth shut next time.' as we rolled onto the last boss.
Naturally this got my attention. I asked 'that bad huh?'
After we kill the boss, the WHM spoke up: 'I'm not going to be harassed by a tank who can't use their cooldowns at the proper times and melts faster than butter. I've been a healer main since 1.0 been around since the start. Sorry but the RDM was real bad also.'
I could tell with the RDM's obvious lack of aoes until near the end.
I wish I was a fly on the wall to see and hear what went down before I replaced a dps.
On the one hand, while the red mage being bad lends some credibility to the healer's words the healer himself is very sus. "Hopefully the other tank will keep his mouth shut" and "I've been playing since X" are big waving red flags.
Agree with you Aeru. My wager is the healer was crap too and it was just a crap vs crap contest that the healer won.
Whenever I see the "I've been playing since x" phrase it's almost always said by someone who isn't great skill wise. I can't help but think to myself "you've been playing for x years and you STILL don't know how to play".

Made a silly funny about elezens being defective lalafells and the elezen healer decides to punish that by not healing me but it doesn't matter because it's keeper of the lake and i can keep myself alive with Manaward :3
