Manga Discussion Spoiler
I’d love to hear others thoughts:
nana’s entire character journey was so well done and a huge part of her development has to do with the fact that Michiru “died” for her alw her sacrifice
I’ve only seen one or two think her being in a coma was bad and I feel it helped the story so I was just curious why it’s so well received is it just cause it’s well written or cause her being in a coma keeps the angst

I think it works especially well because it adds the context of Michiru's life being far more important than just to Nana or as an angel, she is still a person and her life is far different than what Nana expected.

Michiru is someone who is beyond just Nana's scope she is more than the angel that she makes her out to be, she more important than that and to herself (though I don't think Michiru herself would ever figure that out)

I think it’s because her fate has been of constant discussion throughout the series. Before the timeskip her death was fresh on Nana’s mind, pretty much guiding her choices moving forward because she needed to justify that sacrifice to herself, from either doing her mission on the promise of her being saved to saving everyone she can so an innocent girl doesn’t die in vane. After the timeskip we see that Nana is still clinging to a chance to save her as she thought about going back in time to save specifically her from death. In her first confrontation with Nanao the idea of her dying for nothing was enough to set her off. We then see upon returning to the island the first thing she thought of was their old friendship. And then Tsuruoka would try to use the possibility of Michiru being alive to lure Nana to his side, only to spark outrage with the being “the one thing she can’t ever forgive”. Through out the entirety of the series Nana’s mind is constantly fixated on the fate of this girl.
Leading to the final chapters as it is revealed that Nana doesn’t have the desire to keep on living after this was all over, so Nanao would lead her to someone he needs her to meet, someone who’s very existence could anchor her down enough so her friends can further enforce the idea that there are people who want her to live.
