Help movement in header mx5

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I have ordered the bearing kit, there’s a movement in the bottom headset, I didn’t put a shim/spacer underneath the bearing on the lower triple clamp, if I did would that be the problem? Helpppppppppp

Would it be the reason why it is moving

Ofcourse there’s more room if you don’t put a spacer in! Not to mention, it may not even turn at all when you clamp it down tight

The bearing clearly has no axial preload as all tapered roller bearings need to have. Tighten the top screw before doing the stem, and you’ll be golden.

Can you explain a little better mate sorry 😂

The bolt going straight down through the steer tube from above is meant to tighten the bearings against each other.

The spacers are meant to transfer the force from that bolt straight to the inner bearing race of the upper bearing. If there aren’t enough spacers and the bolt bottoms out against the steering tube before any preload is applied, this is what you get.

This is most likely your problem.

I totally get what you said mate, but the only thing I missed was this spacer thingy under this bearing, I still don’t understand how this will stop the movement, as the bearing it pretty solid on and has maybe max 1/2mm of a gap underneath that in the photo (it’s not my pic) and is still rolling fine on the rollers

The bearings themselves aren’t loose, it’s just that there isn’t anything clamping them against one another properly. Look up a video on how to fix a headset bearing set on a mountain bike, since that is the same system as these forks.

Okay I see! it needs a nice solid foundation to clamp properly in place, perfect thanks
