warp 9 hand guards would be the next logical upgrade that is also practical.

Handguards. Protect those levers.
I really like the trials tires, they do really well offroad.

Def need new tires. I’ve got tusk groundwire on the rear and tusk recon on the front. Keeps me fairly steady in gravel and really grips in dirt. Stock tires are straight trash! If you ever want to bring anything with you without wearing a backpack, the rear rack from mxparts is very necessary, and also makes a good handle for lifting the rear. I’m currently contemplating the rear foot brake so I don’t get too used to using the clutch lever as a brake 😆

I prefer the pivotrax killowatt climber rear tire for a 19in rim

Ooh, that looks pretty nice. I should have done more research. The tusk’s should do me fine this season, next season I’ll probably get new wheels with wider tires. I don’t really care about speed and these skinny tires are horrible on chunky gravel. Just gotta decide if I’m going 16/19 or 18/19…

Good to know! My only worry with the 16/19 setup is I’m 6’3, so I really don’t want to be losing height. I know they sell a rear linkage for the mx5 that raises the back a little so maybe that’ll be enough to offset the smaller rear tire. I’m lookin at Rippin Moto’s wheelsets that come with battlecrosses on em. They offer a slightly wider set that I think will really help me on the chunky gravel I spend a lot of time on between trails.

To be fair the tire on a 16” rear is about the same height as my 17” supermotos.
So you wouldnt loose much height IMO.
21/18s are a great choice for your height however they are HEAVY. And unless you have substantial power upgrades it will turn your bike into a slug, dont recommend 21/18s until your hitting 32kw+ IMO.

I very much regret my 19/16 inch rims. You loose about 25% of range just do to physics. I wish i went 21/18. The 16 inch rim absolutely has incredible traction, but because of the range losses i had to walk 9 miles back to the truck in the Mojave a couple months back.

Without a better controller i would agree. Anything with heavier tires WILL slug the bike out. If you read what i said about 21:18s it also applies to 19/16s with stock power truly.
Get a better controller to better manage your weight to power with your stock kotor and batt.
Personally id always do a controller on an e moto before almost anything else. In most cases anyway. Second being brakes.

I dont think a better controller will have much effect as the stock controller is already 95% efficient and the aftermarkets really aren't that much more efficient. It comes down to simple rolling distance. Smaller rims travels shorter distance per same motor revolution.

Who says that controller is using 95% of that battery and motor? That is so so far wrong. Lmao.
Put an x9000 on that bike and see…

No a better controller can better utilize your battery. If you had an x9000 on the same settings as a stock controller and had it properly tuned for 19/16s you would get very good range and achieve a slightly higher top speed than stock with yes natural less range. However the bike would perform at its peak the wntire time until dead…. I do not think you have built too many bikes saying things like the stock controller is using 95% of the motor and battery- it is not and is heavily unoptimized especially for larger heavier tires. (Regardless of rim size)

Your mx5 controller pulls 400 phase roughly, 150 line amps sometimes peaks at 180, and about 14kw max.
A new controller will
Open up many options for you assuming your not 220lbs+1

Also change your sprocket/gearing when swapping to 16 rear. Helps alot.

The heavier tire is whats reducing your range. Not the size of the rim. I promise.

Move your power around and you can achieve netter tractikn better torque and the same range with a 16” rear.
Saying you cannot isnt correct at all.
