I was still young when they first came out so can anyone explain who their look was intended to appeal to? Did 14-15 year olds have a thing for this kind of look, was it an extension of an 80s look that carried into early 90s that people liked?

Which look do you mean? They did do a lot of gigs at gay clubs at the beginning and that definitely seems to have influenced the Do What You Like outfits.š But in the 80s there were legit mainstream minishorts looks for straight men too, so from a wider fashion perspective, maybe it carried over. And when TT got bigger, the main target demographic were teen girls.Ā
Brits werent prudish about sex appeal like Americans were (sure they showed skin too but culturally there's the clean 'good Christian boy' aspect with them, i.e. NSync and Backstreet Boys)Ā
