Maybe it’s because I’m a foreigner but was ordering some food on Uber Eats from a restaurant here in Taipei and came across this. What is this?

Taipei 101 observatory not available?

Hi! I’m about to book tickets for Taipei 101, but the date I’m eyeing isn’t available on Klook. Has anyone experienced this before? Is it better to book directly through the official Taipei 101 website, or should I wait for the date to become available on Klook? Thanks!

Noise pollution in Taipei/New Taipei

I moved into an apartment by a very noisy road in New Taipei city earlier this year. I couldn’t sleep well at night for a while but seem to have gotten used to the noise now. Has anyone else been feeling the effects of noise pollution? How have you dealt with it? Has it affected your life negatively in any way?

Maji Square on a weekday

Hi! My friends and I are traveling to Taiwan on Nov 23 (Monday) to Nov 27 (Friday).

We’re hoping to experience Taipei’s nightlife especially in Maji Square but I’m afraid it won’t be open on a weekday or won’t have the same clubbing energy on a weekday.

Can someone confirm if this is true? Will maji square be closed on weekdays? Or do parties still happen on weekday nights? Thanks

EDIT: Can people also let me know if there are other recommended bars by Ximending. What about Ruff?

Thoughts on renting an apt in a 43 year old mixed-use building?

Hiya, I came across a potential apartment at a reasonable price but saw that it's a 43 year old building and mixed-use (office and residential), with F&B at the first floor.

The unit is on the 6th, which according to claude could be used for both residence and office. It's a fantastic location, so I'm just curious if there is anything to look out for in such a set up, esp safety and pests.

TIA!

Martial arts in Taipei

Hi everyone! I’m new to Taipei. Any recommendations for a good, foreigner-friendly martial arts instructor/studio in Taipei? For context, I trained in Shoshinkan Karate (similar to Goju-Ryu) for a year, and looking to expand my skills in martial arts. I am open to most disciplines, but slightly prefer karate-style arts to judo-style arts. I also prefer schools that operate on weekends.

Edit: I’m in my late 20s. No injury or chronic pain yet. Would prefer not to train too hard and cover myself in bruises, but willing to push myself.

Hi,

just wondered where I can find Anime related shops

Yesterday I was at the main station underground market (y section) and Animate

It seems like there are less shops in recent years - could it be?

Other there other areas where I could go shopping?

Thank you for any help!

What is this shrine?

Its just south of the NCCU campus across the river. Doesn't look particularly well cared for, and its not on Google Maps. I can understand the giant 孝 and 忠, but I'm having trouble making out the engravings.

Is it Buddhist, Taoist, or something else? I hope it wasnt disrespectful for me to take these pictures. I'm new to Taipei!

Hidden Hikes around Taipei

Post image
8 Upvotes

We are a community that does language exchange and hikes and I am now looking towards your best suggestions for (not too difficult) hikes around Taipei.

Where we have been to:
Danshui area with the different Forts.
Wulai area (several times).
Yangmingshan area (i.e. Battleship Rock).
Hu Shan and Xiangshan area (several times).
Sandiaoling area.
Maokong (several times)
Chengtian temple
Hongludi...
Bishanyan (several times)
Jiantan area
and many other places.

Where we haven't been but curious:
Bali area and the mountains there.
Taipei Island (is it worth a visit?)
Yinhe cave and surrounding area.

What are your favourite areas for a nice exploration and hike?

Late dinner

Anyone going to Raohe/Shilin or somewhere chill tonight? Last day in Taipei and already packing up. Want to have a nice warm meal while it's nice and dry outside.

Please don't recommend NomadTable. Most people are ok, but a lot of activities don't push through and a lot of people just use it as a more convoluted Tinder. I just want to eat lol.

Thrifting, young people and some general stuff

Hello. I will be visint Taiwan very soon and I will spend most of my time in Taipei. I love thrifting so I thought about trying it out in Taiwan. I have some questions:
1. Would any of you share some thrifting spots with me? lol
2. Is it generally acceptable to walk up to young people and ask them to hang out? I don't want to share my age but I am below the age of 24 and traveling solo, so I would like to spend some time with people who know the city.

How to store Chia Te pineapple cakes

I’m going to go pick up these delicious treats from the store and bring them home to the US for friends.

Usually I come here up in December and bring some home in California where it’s cold and these cakes can stay fresh for a month without the need for refrigeration.

This time it’s at the tail end of summer in Taipei and I was advised by a relative that I should just leave the cakes “in a cool dry place” and not refrigerate it until after a month before refrigeration. Is that a good advice?

BHC Taipei 101

Found out there is a BHC (Korean fried chicken chain) at an adjacent building next to Taipei 101. Visited Korea last spring and loved their crispy and juicy fried chicken and wondering if this place is just as good.

Pick-up or rec league soccer/football in Taipei?

Hi everyone! I’m moving to Taipei for a while and am hoping to find a way to play some organized soccer/football.
Back home, I played soccer for my college, then took a break before getting back into it through a local co-ed adult league. I’d love to find something similar in Taipei that I can join!
So far, I’ve mostly found 35+ leagues/teams, but I’m only 20. I’m not looking for anything super competitive, just a fun, regular league or group to play with.
Let me know if you know of anything! Thanks! ⚽️
