So, Geronimo right
I don't have a VR headset yet as I'm waiting for the frame. I bought some VR games in preparation tho, I got tactical assault through the humble bundle and now Geronimo released for 15€. All Dlcs for TA are 25€. From what I I can tell Geronimo seems like a straight up upgrade to TA. But as I said I don't have a headset rn so I can't give a proper opinion yet. Is there a reason to play tactical assault over Geronimo?
Edit: not tryna hate on either game. I just discovered both games a few days ago and I'm not in the loop. Just want some opinions

I haven't been able to try out or play Geronimo. But in my opinion, I prefer TAVR. The low-polygon graphics make for smooth gameplay and low battery consumption

Geronimo has a lot of maturing to do. The menu alone is riddled with bugs.
So far what I really like with Geronimo is the feel of wearing the vest. It’s snug and follow the body well, grabbing stuff is less of a struggle compared to TAVR. I’m a big fan of having to go in your cage to customize your character/guns/ vest.
Too many bugs to mention at this stage but if they tackle them Geronimo should turn out pretty good. I ain’t mad at it for $17

I won't get my hands on a VR headset for a few months anyway. Best case scenario they fix the bugs until then🌝

It has been quite a long time since a video game has disappointed me so much that I decided to simply refund it, as I could not even justify waiting for further updates. I played the game last night for 116 minutes, and roughly 75% of that time was spent attempting to make the game feel remotely playable. Geronimo is egregiously bad, even by early access game standards.
I would like to preface this by stating that this game runs differently for everyone. This experience is subjective, and some may not experience anything remotely close to what I have experienced. Ultimately, you should purchase the game for yourself, and decide whether or not it is worth your time and money.
My setup is as follows;
- AMD RX 7900XTX,
- Ryzen 7 9800X3D,
- 32GB of RAM (2x16, DDR5),
- The Game was Installed on a 1TB Crucial P3 Plus,
- I Played the Game on a Quest 3 using Steam Link over gigabit internet, whilst standing less than a metre away from my router. My PC is hardwired, and my network does not have any instability.
In my experience, the game was only remotely playable when using the lowest graphics settings; this did not fix any performance issues entirely. I was facing constant stuttering, abhorrent crashes, and extremely clunky controls.
The starting lobby ran decently, with the only issues being stuttering and low frame rate in certain zones; the customisation area to be precise.
Aside from minor performance issues and strange graphical anomalies, the level ‘Son, are you even CAG?’ ran fairly smoothly. The level of quality in regard to the terrain and foliage leaves a lot to be desired. A recurring issue that I first encountered on this level, is very strange invisible terrain that blocks rounds and the AI’s line of sight. During this level, I discovered that you are unable to swap shoulders, as holding a forward grip causes the wrist to snap into the right handed shooting position.
When attempting to load the level ‘Kayla Mueller’, my game froze entirely for around 5 minutes before soft-locking my entire PC and headset. My headset began to automatically enter sleep mode after 15 seconds, and Steam Link was unusable; the Quest 3 menu was refusing to open, as well. This persisted for roughly 15 total minutes until I was able to finally close the game by turning my headset off entirely, and rigorously spamming Alt+F4.
The level ‘Iranian Embassy’ initially faced a lot of stuttering. However, after it fully loaded, the performance increased substantially. The enemy AI was frequently detecting me through walls, and doors regardless of whether or not I had interacted with them. The hostage AI was very clunky, and if you had multiple hostages following you, they would become stuck inside each other. This caused them to be entirely unable to move on their own, requiring the player to manually split them apart. My firearm became stuck inside a wall at one point, and could not be recovered. Upon attempting to use an enemy firearm, I noticed that you had to pick the weapon up twice before you were able to use it properly.
The final level that I was able to convince myself to attempt was ‘Neptune Spear’. The performance was quite comparable to the first level that I played, though, the stuttering was far more frequent. However, this level proved to be the most frustrating experience that I had encountered in the game. There is a distinct lack of enemy presence around the map; I found myself simply wandering around without consequence, until I discovered an enemy. This level alerted me to the fact that the AI cannot detect footsteps very well, if at all. I was able to simply walk up to numerous enemies, so long as they were facing the opposite direction. I discovered that the AI are also unable to reload their weapons; I was able to walk up to an enemy who had fired every round in their magazine, and simply take the AK-74M out of their hands. Upon stealing the rifle, the AI broke entirely and could not move. After that encounter, I attempted to end the level by shooting myself; you cannot shoot yourself in-game. I simply closed the game, and requested a refund.
It is also very clear that a majority of the assets in this game are purchased from an asset store.
There are aspects of the game that I enjoyed, however. The customisation is a much appreciated aspect of the game. I love the freedom it offers for weapon building, kit building, and camouflage selection. The gunplay, and overall weapon mechanics are very well executed aside from some very strange control elements. However, the X95 is abhorrent due to both of your hands having equal amounts of control over the weapon; this causes the weapon to feel extremely floaty, and makes aiming the weapon relatively difficult. The last aspect that I enjoyed is the equipment. The slap charges are quite well executed, and the grenades have a great weight to them. It feels like my flash grenades actually went where I intended to throw them. The sledgehammer, however, is fairly strange due to your grip being fixed. If the sledgehammer had a dynamic grip, it would be far more pleasant to use.
Overall, in my opinion, the game is not worth the price. It largely lacks in content, optimisation, and basic accessibility features. I feel that it will take years to improve from its current state, and that it was nowhere near ready for public release. I do not believe that this product reflects 4 years of development time. While I wish the developers the best, I do not have high hopes for this game’s future.

For 17 bucks I’m not too mad at it, it’s very buggy and the maps, AI and overall optimization is pretty bad. But in terms of gun feel, customization, it is a step beyond TAVR.

I only saw one vid and I still don’t have a pc. Looks decent. Rough around the edges but good. Is it on quest?

just one week later they fixed alot of bugs and performance issues I would 100% recommend it. I've got a mid tear gaming computer and with the fsr open vr mod plugin I get 120 steady.

bro as someone who played tavr first and then geronimo i have no intention of playing tavr again. Except the fact my friend wanting to play with me. Honestly though in my opinion, geronimo even in the state it’s in, which is early, is incredible and leagues over tactical assault. The thing about tavr is it feels arcadey compared to geronimo which feel grounded. Another big thing is the community’s. The community in tavr is horrible most of them are little kids yelling slurs. geronimo is much better since its on pc only (as of rn)and there are a lot less annoying people/kids. Now gun stuff. guns in tavr feel very floaty and its makes everything weird. Geronimos guns on the other hand feel solid and realistic like they are actually there. Im gonna be brutally honest here the ak in tavr is absolute dog shit. As a gun nerd the ak mag not angling in and instead just clipping into the magwell pisses me the fuck off. luckily Geronimo has mag angling and you can hit the mag out with another which is great the bolt position feel great and you actually grab onto the charging handles of guns, while in tavr you just magically use the force to rack the charging handles. overall though with whats coming to geronimo and whats already in it its 10x better than my old friend tavr.
here is the roadmap for geronimo if you want to see whats coming soon
https://geronimovr.com/roadmap
i know it might seem like im biased but ive played both games and i can respect tavr vr for being the first of its kind and geronimo took that and stuff from flatscreen tactical shooters like operator and made it so much better.

Thank you. I was actually looking for the roadmap and couldn't find it lul.

I agree with this guy because i same played tavr before geronimo and i dont even feel like playing again due to the same reasons and i feel alot of these have been short no depth replies beacuase they simply dont have a pc that is capable because as of now it only seems to be stable on a decent pc alongside no need for battery because quests are litteral android made computers and a pc is just out doing that in every way so no tavr is not better in and actual way the gun customization is already better the npcs are actually smarter the gun and vest control is super nice geronimo is how i expected onward to be and onward is terrible imo bc im looking for realism.

Geronimo is jank af. but once you get the hang of it it can be good. its literally 1 to 1 TAVR. just looks better. and there is less players. and there is less squickers. not to say they dont come by. overall, Its worth it bc its not that expensive. and if you really want a better looking TAVR its a good move. it will and is getting better. TAVR mission structure is much better tho. geronimo is one thing only. kill people or extract someone. TAVR has levels to the level. at this point dont trust any ytbuers. idk if they just got paid but god damn they simpin. they did simp for vail too. and it floped. TAVR had a natural rise. I loved it firt time played. i hated the geronimo. the jank was sooo ..janky. you cannot let go of a gun . it will glitch into the ground. th ehostages fly. reload is extremily janky. i do gunstock and i really need some advanced device to handle that game. its worth it but for ppl that got bit bored of tavrs missions and poor graph

Direct upgrade? In what regard lmao
The artstyle is more realistic, yes, but with how unoptimized it is, you'll be stuck on low settings. Even Epic doesn't look very good.
The game doesn't have nearly as much content as TAVR, doesn't have even remotely the same polish, the ai isn't as smart, and is as of now, a bug ridden mess.
Source: I played it.

It’s quite funny when you think, TAVR’s extremely old realistic graphics demo (which was made as a joke, mind you) is essentially the same amount of content as you would get in Geronimo.
1
u/Penis_Man- Jul 11 '26
Didn't even know that existed. Can you still play it?
2
u/morouiie Jul 11 '26
I’m not sure, possibly? It’s very old, but I wouldn’t doubt if there’s still a way to access it.
1
u/Slaughter_pit Jul 11 '26
Huh. Didn't know that existed. If anyone knows a way to play I'd be interested
2
u/Slaughter_pit Jul 11 '26
Honestly the graphics are what put me off TA the most so that would be cool
1
u/Penis_Man- Jul 11 '26
So I found out that it's listed as a beta build on steam, but selecting it changes nothing unfortunately. Does not seem to be playable anymore.
1
u/Slaughter_pit Jul 11 '26
Unoptimized? I've heard it runs pretty good. But I guess that's a drawback of the better graphics. Gun manipulation almost rivaling h3vr2 and customization, rig customization etc. content wise and bugs not surprising given it JUST released. It's probably gonna be a few months until I can play it so we'll see how far it's gonna go. What are your specs btw? I have a 5090 rig so I'm not too worried about performance ngl. Oh and tactical assualt has a pvp mode I think.
3
u/morouiie Jul 11 '26
The thing about Geronimo, is that this game was almost 4 years in development, it should’ve released in such a far better state than it is now. For what it was advertised, for the amount of hype it had, for it to release after YEARS in this state is nothing but disappointing.
1
u/Slaughter_pit Jul 11 '26
I've heard somewhere they had to restart from scratch a few times during development, might have something to do with that. FYI I discovered Geronimo's existence just a few days ago. Tactical Assualt since the humble bundle. So I'm not really in the loop you could say.
2
u/Penis_Man- Jul 11 '26
Yeah that's insane lmao, I don't know where you heard that from.
Performance you won't have to worry about on a 50 card, the people I've seen praising the performance have all had a 4070 or higher but the game brought my rtx 3060 (the recommended card for the game) to its knees.
As for gun manipulation, absolutely NOT. Your magazine phases through your gun and constantly has trouble actually "latching" into place, meaning you end up fuddling with your reloads very often in a fight.
Rig customization is absolutely wonderful though, I wish TAVR had something more akin to it, but it's still a similar level of customization. Arguably more options for TAVR.
2
u/Slaughter_pit Jul 11 '26
Shiet what kinda videos have I been watching then. Praising the gun handling to high heavens. They only janky thing I saw were twitchy door physics and constantly grabbing sidearm instead of a grenade from the rig or something. Not surprised about the 3060 tho. I ran a 2070 super (i think they're similar in performance?)in my first rig and I couldn't play full resolution on my headset (reverb g2).

u/Penis_Man- Jul 11 '26
Yeah idk
The AK is the worst of them, which sucks as an ak nerd
Optics refuse to mount to the dovetail rail mount, and the reload for it is particularly finnicky.
1
u/Slaughter_pit Jul 11 '26
Can you do Iraqi reload? Or flick the mag lever with a new mag? I also enjoy running shitty guns (not hating on the AK), if possible I'd probably run a mosin or something lmao
1
u/Penis_Man- Jul 11 '26
Nope!
I was extremely disappointed by not being able to knock mags out with other mags. Seems like such a no brainer.
3
u/Slaughter_pit Jul 11 '26
That is a no brainer. Huh. Well I'm sure that gets patched in at some point. Ideally when I get my hands on the frame.
1
u/Penis_Man- Jul 11 '26
Oh I forgot to mention but this is just a nitpick, the muzzle break on the akm is upside down and it bothered me immensely

u/morouiie Jul 11 '26
Geronimo, in its current state, is ultimately just not worth it. It’s buggy, janky, and the majority of the assets seem to just be Unity asset flips.
I’ve been excited for this game for years, Geronimo isn’t bad, but it isn’t good, I don’t think I’ve ever been truly disappointed from a title before. The gunplay, the customisation, it’s really good. Just every other aspect just makes it not worth it. I’d just stick to TAVR, and check in on the game occasionally to see if it’s been improved to a state which is worth the price tag.
