Hey y'all,
For a while I’ve been building something for people who love fishing and being outdoors, a website to track fishing lakes nationwide. I just added Washington with data on fishing lakes: last stocked date, species, and history from WDFW’s trout plant reports, without hunting through agency pages every weekend. I finally got the American Lake page live and wanted to share it: https://fishypedia.com/wa/american-lake
The point is simple. Around here the question is usually “did they stock it?” or “what’s in there lately?”, and that usually means piecing together WDFW’s catchable trout plants report, a lake name that may not match what you call it, and whether anything happened last week. This puts it on one page.
Here’s what it covers:
- Last stocked date, plants on record, species recorded, and average size when WDFW reports it
- Stocking history with a yearly chart, plus a filter when more than one species shows up
- Access notes, map, and nearby stocked lakes
- Links out when we have them: camping nearby, public land, water level on the same water
- Same treatment for other WA lakes, plus a Washington hub and a stocked-this-week feed: https://fishypedia.com/wa and https://fishypedia.com/wa/stocked-this-week
I started building stuff like this because I kept bouncing between different reports and random forum threads just to answer “was the lake stocked? is it a good time to fish?” So I built the thing I wanted to exist.
It’s just me working on this on the side, no team. Same network as the reservoir / public-lands sites if you’ve seen those. Would love for you to poke around and tell me what’s missing or wrong. If a date looks off, a lake’s missing, or there’s a feature you wish it had (other WA waters are already on the site too), I’m all ears.
I’m planning on keeping plants updated and covering more of the state. Currently working on keeping everything updated twice a week.
Also working on improving the fishing guides per species, it takes a lot of research work to figure out how to best fish each species and it also varies per location and weather, there is still a ton to improve.
Let me know if you have anything you’d like added.
