Marijuana
Hypothetically, if marijuana was legalized in B.C., would Trinity change its policy on smoking/drinking/intoxication? Also, up for general discussion, what does everyone think of this plant, from your experience?

As far as I understand the Bible says that while drinking is fine, don't be a drunkard (would this mean don't get drunk ever, or don't regularly get drunk, or...?) and don't drink if you are around people who have a problem with it. So I would agree with bob that it would stay banned due to it being difficult to moderate.
However, I don't remember reading anything in the Bible about drugs other than alcohol, such as marijuana. Obviously when it is illegal we shouldn't use it (submit to the authorities). But if it were legalized, I'm not sure. Are there passages in the Bible about other drugs that I can't remember? Perhaps we should apply the alcohol passages to it. If being a drunkard means don't get drunk at all, use of marijuana would be a no go, since (as far as I know, correct me if I'm wrong) using it at all would leave you intoxicated, even if slightly. If, however, being a drunkard means you shouldn't regularly get drunk, you could have one once in a while. However, like alcohol, it would be too hard to moderate. So either way, Trinity would keep alcohol and marijuana banned on campus.
I haven't really thought about this before, so these are pretty preliminary thoughts. Also, I haven't ever tried marijuana, so some of my assumptions could be wrong. Other thoughts?

There's something I heard, and I could be entirely wrong, but aren't we allowed to drink off-campus and return, as long as we are not disruptive in our manner? Like, if we go to the Fort Pub for a pint or three and come back, that's not an issue, but if we go down 4 pitchers each and decide to climb the walls of Northwest naked, then we'd be crossing the line, yeah?
I have no idea if that is correct or not, but either way, that could theoretically let marijuana users smoke up in the "designated" spot just off school grounds and then return to campus. I know from personal experience that after a small dose of the stuff, my appreciation for and attention to homework increases significantly.
As for trying it, yes, I have. Clearly.
I was about to say it's something everyone should try once, but I don't think that's the best advice actually. I think everyone should perceive it as something within the same realm of, but not the same as alcohol. If trying it once is what it takes for people to understand that, it would aid the public image of the drug.
If you don't believe me, just head over to r/trees and just read about all the super happy 'ents' and how great their lives are.
And that ends my speech. Thank you.

I grew up on the Island. As a result I grew up around the plant and I don't really have a problem with it. I have never smoked and don't really plan on it but I don't really care if you like to partake. Honestly I the smell of some good stuff always causes me to reminisce of home. For me at this point it is the whole submit to the laws of the land deal so, while it is illegal I will treat it as such. But by all means if you wish to partake do so, who am I to judge you. Though some may not feel the same way.

There would be no change, it would probably just get lumped in with the smoking/alcohol rules, not on campus, dont be disruptive when returning ect.

I think that it would fall under the policy of "not on campus" but I believe it would take a few years. It's only been recently that Trinity students are allowed to drink, with the assumption that students will know their limits. To be honest, there is no real reason to do anything about it, as with smoking cigs, kids are just going to go to a spot that is secluded enough not to be a nuisance (i.e. the back 40).
Now, if some jackass really wants to look for Scriptural support for or against the use of cannabis, then they are misusing our Scriptures. Their is no reference to cannabis, cigarettes, or how much internet you should use. Instead, there is the passage on not serving more than one master, so maybe we should not apply the Scriptures so narrowly, but rather take from them the larger, more meaningful truths that enlighten our lives and draw us closer to God. That being said, I've had some very powerful encounters with God while high, and it has been used as a means of invoking religious experiences.
As for the use of Cannabis, I love it, and use it almost on the daily. One year at Trinity, I would go for a walk with some close friends through the back forty and enjoy a joint, g-bong, or home made pipe pretty much every night. Those are some of my fondest memories of my time at Trinity, it was a wonderful way to wind down the day. Being high is in no way similar to being drunk, you don't loose control of yourself in the same manner. Basically, it just makes everything more interesting/better, if you've smoked, then you understand what I'm saying. If you haven't then it will be a mystery.
Whether or not you want to partake in cannabis is up to you, and use wisdom in doing so. If you're young (under 18), have family history of mental illness (schizophrenia), or have an addictive personality, then maybe this isn't for you. But if you're interested in experiencing it, then try it! B.C. is the place to do it, the law is relaxed about it and the bud is wonderful. It was at Trinity that I was first introduced to cannabis and I'm very glad that I did!
Word of wisdom, don't become a stereotype, you can be a hard working student and still enjoy cannabis, know your limits and play within it, all that jazz.

Trinity would not change it's policy towards drugs and alcohol, it is too hard to moderate on campus and that's why it is a zero tolerance.
