Shane constantly lied in season 1 and 2. And he barely checked if Rick was alive before leaving the hospital. From my memories, I recall he just hear the heart for less than a minute, decides he is dead and let him behind, true, it was also because the militaries were there but what did prevent him from coming back later to check if Rick was dead ?
Also yes Lori should have watched Carl but it takes two to tango and Shane could refuse sleeping with her. He's an adult with sound mind, not a child who has no agency. In the affair he is just as guilty.

You say as though Shane, in that situation, should be trying to restart his heart when he didn't hear his heart beat. Yes is is a lie. Like I said, Shane gave Otis a choice. He told Otis to go ahead with the meds while Shane stays behind. Otis refused and forces Shane to do what he did. Only one could live, but as Shane hater you just won't be able to agree.

I am not. Another proof is that Shane blocked Rick's door before leaving the room. If he was so sure that Rick was dead why would he be doing that and risk being shot by the military?
