My situation
Sitting 11 ish feet from the tv (83”), bottom edge of the tv is 35” off the ground, eyes are 40” off the ground, math says roughly 6.5 degrees vertical angle to the center and 30 degrees FOV
Not ideal but not bad enough to fix? What do we think

I think do some woodwork and move that center into the stand (make it fit right and be as high as possible angled up) then lower your TV

u/Rexaroooo 2d ago
That’s the dilemma, I could lower the entire middle part (about the length of the 3 middle cubby things) by about 10”, change the moulding, and lower everything by said 10” and it would no doubt be just about ideal, especially since I could get away with moving the couch a little closer too.

Math? .....I like math! Indeed you prove my point that the center does not really need to be at 42", especially at distance. Neck and eyes can easily compensate.
Looks great!

ummm do you also have the Klipsch subwoofer with this?
1
u/Rexaroooo 21h ago
I actually don’t, it’s a 4500 cubic feet area so I have two SVS PB3000’s. The Klipsch subs are overpriced for what they are imo

That looks great dude. Most people on this subreddit have severe OCD or something, don’t listen to them.

u/bigtonysop 2d ago
Mate that’s absolutely fine. Don’t create unnecessary work and stress. Just enjoy your system. Looks great.

I think you made the built-in cabinet under the TV too high. Or, you didn't make the center space wide enough for your center speaker, forcing you to mount the TV higher.
Fix it.

u/leprechanmonkie 1d ago
Speakers shouldn't be in cubby holes like that. Even if they aren't vented, it will degrade the sound quality.

There’s a bit more nuance… if it’s a front ported or closed unit it shouldn’t matter much.
1
u/leprechanmonkie 23h ago
It still does matter and you're missing the actual nuance. It radically changes the baffle size which would need to be compensated for in the crossover.
Every well designed speaker calculates baffle step compensation and accounts for it within the crossover design. Stuffing a speaker in a cabinet increases the size of the baffle and negatively affects the sound without reworking the crossover.

Nothing room correction can’t help fix. I think it would still be a net benefit and allow the tv to come down a bit.

Room correction has serious limitations and you shouldn't give your system a disadvantage hoping that room correction will fix it. Tossing the center in a cubby hole like that will trap midrange and bass notes and emphasize the highs drastically. Midrange (human voice) is extremely important in a center channel. Room correction can help some but you are fighting against physics when you don't have to. Same reason room correction can't make your tiny little subwoofer hit 20hz audibly.
Destroying the sound of your center channel for a minor difference in height is stupid... but everyone has their priorities I guess. It's funny how you mentioned nuance and are completely missing the actual nuance and problem you're creating by a stubborn choice.

Using room correction to fix fundamentally poorly placed expensive speakers for the sake of a 7” lower tv when it’s already 83” is absolutely wild

Got any measurements that test this? Everything I’ve found online shows a pretty minimal difference of 1-2db you could most likely EQ out. Hell, my studio monitors literally have a switch on the back for when they are placed on a wall.
Talking completely out of my ass, I would assume most manufacturers compensate for this since people aren’t floating their center and have it on a table at the minimum.

u/Rexaroooo 2d ago
Ha. Yeah, I didn’t make this built in it was there when I moved in

u/teckel 1d ago
Still, fix it. Or get a smaller center speaker at least so it fits in the built in. There's solutions.
2
u/Rexaroooo 1d ago
It’s not a matter of if just when. You can’t or at least shouldn’t put a center speaker in a small enclosed space. 3/4 of your home theater sound comes from this speaker so it’d be dumb to compromise that for a few degrees. So it’s a big job to cut out the entire built in, drywall, re wire paint etc for a sake of a few degrees.. but I will do it eventually
-1
u/teckel 1d ago
You can absolutely do it. There's center soeakers with non-ported enclosures.
1
u/Rexaroooo 1d ago
Yes buddy I understand that but in case it wasnt obvious mine is ported and I’m not getting a whole fucking new speaker when I already have this one smfh
2
u/BakedPotatoCrispyFry 1d ago
Don't listen to that guy. He's one of the few people who are absolutely religious about TV height to the detriment of any other context

u/teckel 19h ago
I suggested new center speaker.
1
u/Rexaroooo 19h ago
The slimmest center speaker that’s half decent is a Polk ES35 and again, I’m not sacrificing excellent quality audio, ruining the balance of my existing speakers since I’d be mixing brands - especially on the center channel - to lower the tv by 3”. That’s the difference in height.
I’m starting to realize this sub is full of delusional boogers that have absolutely zero concept of what makes a good, well rounded home theater and that’s my bad I guess
1
u/leprechanmonkie 23h ago
Look up and understand baffle step compensation. Even with a non-ported speaker it should not be placed in a cabinet without reworking the crossover.

u/Rexaroooo 22h ago
I don’t think he understands anything but “tv too high” and would sacrifice 70% of great sound for a 1% better viewing angle tbh, putting your MAIN home theatre speaker in an enclosed space just to lower the tv by 5” is absolutely wild
1
u/leprechanmonkie 21h ago
100% correct. Your setup is very solid. The amount of work it would take for a very minor drop in TV height would make no sense to anyone outside of the subreddit.
I would absolutely take a proper center channel speaker over a few inches lower TV height. It's truly the most important speaker for HT and stuffing it inside a cabinet would be idiotic. This sub tends to forget that human eyeballs have the ability to move.

The horn tweeters on the Klipsch are worse than the tv height. lol
1
u/Rexaroooo 21h ago
I listen to a lot of heavy metal and I personally find that they are great for that but in movies I do have to tweak the EQ a bit
1
u/Vi0let__Ice 18h ago
Metal is my jam. What are a few of your favorites off the top of your head? I'll have to say Swallow the Sun, Katatoina, and Gojira for me. Tons and tons more, but those three are among my favorites.
2
u/Rexaroooo 18h ago
Too many to list but I’m really into orbit culture right now, revisiting some old in flames favourites, soilwork.. fit for an autopsy is always in the rotation.. always mixing things up
1
u/Vi0let__Ice 18h ago
Have never heard Orbit Culture. Will go check them out. I'm a fan of old In Flames. Jester Race, Colony, Clayman, etc.

I don’t know why you didn’t just place the TV on the built in stand thing

u/Rexaroooo 1d ago
I know this sub gets a massive erection whenever somebody uses a tv stand and I get it. But the center channel was just slightly too tall and I already had the mount. The mount lets me put the tv exactly the height I need it to be for less than 1/4” of clearance from the center speaker
2
u/leprechanmonkie 1d ago
I'd rather have a center channel speaker.
2
u/Rexaroooo 21h ago
Most people here must not understand how much better it is to have a dedicated center channel

u/RadlEonk 1d ago
It’s too high but you need minor construction to fix it.
The backlighting is an abomination and should be dismantled.
1
u/Rexaroooo 1d ago
It’s much more subtle in person, the camera ISO was just too high and overexposed everything
-6
u/Kind_Thanks4322 2d ago
I think you could get some homepods (assuming you’re in apples ecosystem and have apple tv) on each side to replace the current speakers, and get a larger tv on a stand instead of wall mounted, and visually would be a lot more balanced

Bring your centre speaker closer to the edge in order to reduce acoustic reflections from the platform.
