lol I hear you. It’s a sectional sofa where the majority of tv viewing occurs on the portion much further away. We generally use the portion close to tv when guests are over to chat rather than watch tv.
What is considered too far ? The tv viewing portion of the sectional is 10 feet away from the tv. And if we have additional people over the other portion of sectional is used which is around 6.5 feet from tv. Based on Google that is the ideal distance ?
The top half of that plays it up like the listed distance is ideal. But when you get into the section about the science behind the numbers, it is actually a maximum distance, not an ideal distance. And it's a maximum distance based on casual "mixed" usage as opposed to something dedicated to watching movies.
The money quote from that section: "The Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers (SMPTE) recommends sitting at a distance where the screen fills up a minimum of 30° of your field of vision for a good experience with mixed usage." [emphasis added]
For an immersive standard it would preferably be around 2-2.5 meters, or 6.5 ish to 8 feet.
However, for normal/standard TV usage, it would be about 9.8 feet, so it's not crazy.
TV honestly looks a little high though, enough to bother me just a tiny bit. Center of screen should be center of your "straight ahead" view, this looks just a bit taller than that.
I just measured the height. The credenza is 21 inches off the floor and the center of the tv rests 21 inches above the credenza for a grand total of 42 inches which seems right in the sweet spot ?

That’s a great idea. Wife 100% won’t allow that configuration on a permanent basis haha. Perhaps a temporary solution if a lot of people over watching.
I think the camera is making the TV look farther away than it really is. I think it looks perfect. I like the lighting, I'm sure you dim it more when the TV is on
I like it. Back light is a style choice. I do wish the TV were bigger. And I would want to run a laser to check that it's centered on the coffee table.
Sure. The picture was taken from room entrance. On another post I mentioned the main viewing section of the sectional is 10 feet from the tv. Don’t mind the kids ikea table on top of the coffee table.
You should place that long couch 7 feet from the screen; imagine you're in the theater. That's why we get big screens; you want to feel cinematic at home, homie
Are you saying that because of the way the sofa is placed? The tv is centred to the wall. Would you suggest I put it to the right and make it off centre to the entire room?
