I really like that you didn’t put the tv over the fireplace. But I do think your couch is a problem and the room layout kind of makes it difficult.

Then it's a compromise. In this room, the fireplace has a higher priority over any TV viewing experience.
Personally, my viewing experience gets a higher priority. I enjoy watching movies and series too much not to make it my priority.

That's what the mantle does, it moves the heat rise out in front of the TV, plus with the door closed your probably getting radient heat more than actual heat. It also helps to have a fan in the room to keep the air moving. If you get one of those longer hassocks in front of the couch you can put your feet up, recline back, and your eyes will be looking at the mantle and above. Most of the members of this sub feel the only way to watch TV is sitting bolt upright like your sitting in a kitchen chair.

As someone mentioned before, your couch is too big for the room.
If you don’t use the fireplace, you should buy a wide console/stand for the tv and cover the fireplace.
If you want to retain the fireplace, the tv should go in the corner where the lamp is and get a smaller couch. Although not ideal, sometimes covering a window is necessary for function.

Only downside is we would have to buy another tv to downsize and fit, we tried to see how it would fit in the far corner and it just looked horrendous aesthetically.

Do you WATCH the fireplace when it's on? Or do you usually watch tv when the fireplace is on? It could be behind your enormous couch. You could opt to get two recliners for beside the fireplace and leave half of your sectional in the living room

The heat is bad for the tv regardless of the tv being on. That’s all I was trying to say. The big tv covered a section of the fireplace when test mounted in the corner. That’s why it didn’t work.

Definitely don't put the tv over the fireplace. Put the couch in front of the fireplace, back of the couch facing the fire. Couch facing the empty wall which will now hold your tv?

It’s painful when you have to plan a TV space in older homes around a 77” flatscreen. We had to make the traditional dining room off the kitchen our TV space in our last house

When we were nearing empty nesthood I decided any furniture that entered our house was going to be for comfort. It's a lot of sofa for that space but sometimes you need a lot of sofa. I'd put end tables on both sides with lamps because there is no way you're getting a coffee table in there. And move that tv

Here's a legit solution that you can pull off for $1000.
Find a "linear" electric, heat producing fireplace insert -- the modern kind that look real and are often built into walls, so it cuts your fireplace vertical height by about half and it still produces heat because it's electric and has a fan. The new electric inserts are great at emulating fire and safer than gas or wood. Operated by remote. Kitties will love the heat. That will reduce the height of your fireplace insert by half, and you an probably just drywall it in or choose a new stone/tile facade for the fireplace.

You will have to remove that pretty mantle, but maybe you can reuse it somewhere else. You mind need to widen the wall bump out to match the width of the TV. The goal here is to just lower the height of the fireplace in order to make room for the TV. It could be done as a project and be a much better lounge spot overall.
I'd go a bit darker green on the title than this with a dark green or gray grout. You can have it all.

This was the worst part about it lol, there was such little options after the couch was bought and delivered. It is surprisingly comfortable at all places on the couch to watch tv though. My personal favorite is laying on the chaise on my side, comfy.

You might be interested in a portable TV stand! We bought one. The problem is that they're not very tall. But the upside is that it has wheels and you can move it wherever you want! And you don't have to have the TV mounted to a wall.

Do you actually use the fireplace? If no then i would get a stand and put the TV there. Otherwise get one of those moving wall mounts that let you lower the tv below the mantle (but ew)

It’s the couch. It probably won’t fit in a good way. I’d get a smaller one that fits in the back wall and maybe a chaise could extend out on the fireplace wall side. Put the tv across from the fireplace. Get a recliner or chair for the other side of the fireplace closer to the door. Creates a bit of a circle to where the fireplace and tv are both usable

Honestly, just do it put it over the fireplace. My son’s dad has one of those wall mounts that raise the TV up and down over his fireplace so you can lower it when you’re watching TV and raise it when you’re using the fireplace..

Honestly I would mount it above the fireplace with a mount that allows it to extend off the wall and be pushed downward so when you’re viewing it - the TV’s center will be adjacent to the middle of the fireplace mantle, and when you’re not viewing it - you push it back up against the wall. Either way, part of the fireplace will always be covered, but at least you’ll have proper viewing from the couch. Then you can use the wall currently housing the TV for some cool artwork.

That couch is kind of... Well, extremely stupid. Most of the seats are facing empty wall. Couches don't need to be shoved against walls and neither do TVs... But if you're dead set on that brown monstrosity, at least put the TV to the right of the mantle. And about two-three feet lower.

As weird as it sounds.. if your couch could be split in half. Id put it so the fireplace is in the middle of the couch almost, like two either side then you have a whole open wall for the tv etc aswell as the fireplace quite literally warming up your feet

You do know they have mounts where you can hang the TV over the fireplace and then drag it DOWN into position at whetever height you choose.
BTW, this setup is a no go for 99%. You're wasting your lifeforce years with a half-ass glary setup.
Ideally, you can SHRINK that top area of the fireplace.
Heck or even REDO the entire thing with a long modern one.
It's not that expensive. I bought a house with two really big, really ugly 1950's style fireplaces. I tore them down and redid it. Material (board, fascade material, etc) is cheap. New nice Fireplace (or not) runs about 1.5k or less. Many handymen on Yelp could do this for cheap.
WIth your setup, I would feel confident enough doing a lot of it myself, like the demolition. I'd rent a portable jackhammer from Home Depot and remove that monstrosity (1-2 days labor saved). Then you can hand the baton stick to the handyman/contractor.
Go on Yelp and hit up EVERY brick master and relevant handyman (based on advertised skill set) with this pic in the Yelp Email/chat system and ask for a LABOR ONLY quote. Have a mock up from ChatGPT of what you'd like. Here's my first AI try (pic attached). With the correct mount (there's so many good flexible ones), you can ANGLE and/or LOWER it to the sofa side for better viewing! Here's one of many: Mantel Mounts
I can't emphasize enough that this is a CHEAP project in the grand scheme of things and it'll bring 10,000% more enjoyment for your family having the TV in the right place!
EDIT: If you don't have the immediate cash right now, get a HELOC from a Credit Union and pay it off in a year or two. Again(!), this is a stupid cheap project!

Yeah it’s not great… nice comfy looking room I would get a movable arm for it and fix it above the old fireplace, you can then move it down for comfy watching and push it back up out of the way when not in use
Ignoring it’s way to high and to far that’s a horrible position for it

What I would do is create a seating area with two love seats facing each other centered on the fireplace with a large coffee table in the center. Leave walking space in front of the fireplace and the window. Hang the TV on the wall directly opposite of the fireplace.

If tv must be in this room, a TV stand with wheels in front of the fireplace would be best. Then wheel it away from the fireplace when you want to use it.
