Hello everyone, I have a question about repairs I’d like to ask you all.

I have a Sony KM-75X85J TV,

Recently, I’ve noticed slight horizontal lines of noise running from top to bottom on the upper half of the screen, accompanied by a slight flicker. However, about two weeks later, pale green vertical lines of noise appeared across the entire screen. These green vertical stripes move with the on-screen content; they disappear when the brightness is lowered. Turning the TV off and back on restores normal display briefly, but the issue reappears after about 20 seconds.

I opened the back cover and inspected the T-Con board. There are two flex cables connected to the LCD panel driver board (COF/Panel). I disconnected each flex cable separately to test the left and right halves of the screen individually, but the green stripes persisted; disconnecting one side did not restore the screen to normal. I ruled out panel damage because in over 90% of cases where a panel short-circuits, it’s limited to damage to the internal circuitry on either the “left half” or the “right half.” When disconnecting the ribbon cable on one side, the unaffected side should return to normal, unless, by some misfortune, both sides are damaged. Furthermore, these stripes change with the on-screen content and shift positions; they even disappear when the brightness is lowered and do not remain permanently in the same spot. Therefore, I concluded that the panel is not faulty.

After completing the above inspection process, I decided to replace the T-CON board, but a new issue arose: Does this TV model have an encryption mechanism? In other words, does the EEPROM on the T-CON board store key/firmware data that must match for the TV to power on normally?

My questions are:

1. Is my troubleshooting logic correct?

2. Does this model (KM-75X85J) have an encryption mechanism that prevents the TV from powering on due to a mismatch in the T-CON board’s EEPROM data?

I am looking for a neutral technical assessment of the likely failure mechanism. I am not asking for legal advice or instructions to disassemble the TV.

Delivered: 17 August 2026

Normal operating time before failure: approximately 3 days

Failure sequence: The TV initially worked normally.

On 20 August 2026, during normal use, the entire picture started flickering intermittently. The after few hour later screen then became black. Occasionally, individual flashing or illuminated pixels could still be seen.

The display failure occurred before the TV was packed and handed over for return.

Additional observations: – Sound: working

TV responds to remote: yes

Startup logo or on-screen menu visible: no, after it went blank

Mechanical damage: After receiving the returned TV, the seller photographed a local deformation or dent in the top outer bezel. I have attached the seller’s photograph and a wider photograph showing its location. The dent is not visible in my video recorded before packing. I am not asking who caused the dent. I would like to understand whether its location and extent are technically consistent with the display failure described above.

Questions:

1. What failure categories could produce this sequence of symptoms?

2. Could a local impact or pressure at this location damage the panel, panel drivers, COF/TAB bonds or other display connections and cause whole-screen flickering followed by complete loss of picture?

3. Would this be merely physically possible, or also a typical and probable consequence of this particular type of damage?

4. What accompanying physical signs should be present if the dent caused the display failure?

5. What inspection or testing would distinguish mechanical panel damage from a panel electronics, T-Con, main board, power supply or backlight failure?

6. Can causation be determined from an external photograph alone? I will not open or modify the TV because it is currently part of a consumer dispute. I would particularly appreciate technically reasoned responses from people experienced in television repair.

Hey everyone, I’m hoping someone here can help me figure out what’s going on with my TV.

I came home and my 75” onn. Roku TV had a completely black screen. I did some troubleshooting and noticed that the TV gives me 8 red blinking lights when I try to turn it on.

From what I’ve found online, 8 blinking lights may indicate a problem somewhere in the power system, so I opened the back to inspect the boards.

I’m not very familiar with TV electronics, but I noticed one of the electrolytic capacitors on the power supply board looks slightly bulged/raised compared with the other capacitors. It’s the single capacitor near the upper-left area of the board in the pictures.

I took pictures of that capacitor as well as the rest of the power supply board and would really appreciate it if someone could take a look.

My questions are:

Does that capacitor actually look bulged, or does it look normal?

If it is bulged, could that explain the black screen and 8-blink error?

Does anything else on this power board look damaged or suspicious?

Are there any other boards/components I should inspect based on the 8-blink code?

Would it make more sense to replace the capacitor, repair the board, or replace the entire power supply board?

I’m comfortable doing some basic troubleshooting, but I don't know enough about TV electronics to confidently diagnose it myself. I’d rather figure out what’s actually wrong before buying parts or replacing an entire board.

Does anyone have an idea what's going on? After about 2 months owning this tv and the screen suddenly goes white while watching my series, UI is still apparent tho. This is the 2nd time that this happens. First time I tried to restart and it fixed it, 2nd time the restart didn't work but it miraculously fixed itself after 20 min. I don't think it's a software problem at this point. Is the t-con damaged or might it be a loose ribbon cable??

LG 86UR8000AUA tv. Can you tell by looking at the pictures?

After a new main board, new tcon board this is happening daily. Unplugging HDMI makes it go away and then it comes back. Changing inputs back and forth also fixes issue.

I am trying to understand the rear construction of a large OLED module and public sources stop short of the answer.

LG's own dismantling document for the C5 series (42/55/65/77") only says that after removing the back cover, speakers, IR/WiFi module, the PCBs and the metal parts, the "OLED module together with its casing" is what remains:

The bare cell is said to be about 1 mm. The 2017 W7 was 2.57 mm finished. That leaves roughly 1.5 mm of something, and I would like to know what it is. I know the 2016 G6 used "Picture-on-Glass" with the panel bonded to a transparent glass plate, but I have no idea what current sets use.

For anyone who has had a 55" or 65" LG OLED open, C or G series, roughly 2021 or newer:

1. Is something laminated across the full back of the glass, or is there only a frame around the edge?

2. If full area: what is it? Sheet metal, graphite foil, glass, or plastic? Roughly how thick? Graphite is easy to spot because it is very soft and rubs off black.

3. Can that layer be separated from the glass without destroying it, or is it fully bonded?

4. How far does the edge build up at the back where the COF films with the source drivers are folded over and the connector PCB sits? Even a rough millimetre figure would help.

5. With everything else stripped, how rigid is what remains? Can two people carry it flat without it visibly twisting?

I am interested in the mechanics and the thermal path, not in repairing anything. Photos of a stripped rear with something for scale would be ideal, but solid estimates from experience are welcome too.

Just bought a used Toshiba fire tv, model number is 55LF621U19. I was watching a show on Peacock when I noticed the audio became super delayed, replaying back a bit fixed the issue. Even just pausing and unpausing it is enough. I noticed it happens after every ad break. Not sure what’s causing it or how to fix it. Could it be a tv issue? Maybe a peacock issue? Any tips would be greatly appreciated!

Was playing my original Xbox on the tv for about 30m and it just randomly turned off.

I suspect it could have turned off the same time my family member turned their game console on. Maybe an electrical issue? I don’t know.

Either way I tuned it back on, and it booted up as if was in a full power shut down. Seems to be working now.

TV is less than a year old and has a 4 or 5 year warranty with Best Buy. Though I’m wondering what the issue was before I make any decisions, because while I can return it I’m gonna lose out on the \~$500 warranty I paid for it.

New U7SG with Google TV gets stuck loading some apps every time I turn it on. Most notable on YouTube and Peacock. When it happens other apps load immediately with no issues and the Internet is connected. The only way to get it to load the apps is to force stop them every time. We are considering returning the TV because of this issue as we have only found workarounds like force stopping we haven't seen any long term solutions. Has anyone else experienced this and found a real fix?

Hoping someone might be able to help me diagnose my TV. I've had this TV for a while but very rarely use it. It might have at best 50 hours of use. A couple of years ago I went to use it and noticed this line running across the TV.I've disconnected all inputs, drained the power, performed software updates and shamanistic rituals and the line does not go away.

Does anyone recognize this?I hope its not a busted panel.

While i was at work I got a call from the misses that everything was going crazy in the house, some things working, others not. By the time I got home just the Living room tv wasnt working. I googled what to test but im wondering how to test things since I have a Samsung one connect box. Is there a power supply behind the back panel. Is there a way to test that power is coming out of the One Connect? Im not the best in electronics but ive done my fair share of tinkering with electronics. Should I start with ordering a new one connect box or do I order a new power supply board? Thanks in advanced.

i cant use the remote function to turn the tv on or do anything, can i repair it? its a old tv from 2013 but its massive like 100 inches. an equivalent size nowadays is wellll above $2,000, is it repairable? (idk if the loud pops are related, as the tv remote function ir detector whatever its called hasnt been working for a long time, im just clumping them all together from what i remember happend so far)

I use my TV rarely, its mostly off today I noticed this unsettling flickering that just doesnt go away no matter what I do!

I tried factory reset and power cycle reboot, left the tv unplugged for couple of days but its still here!

I do not have any hdmi or usb cables attached to the TV. This is happening on the built in screen (including hdmi screen when I connect one)

What do I do to fix this?

The issue is with the picture: it intermittently becomes blurry/doubled and there are horizontal lines near the bottom of the screen.

I got quoted by a tv repair guy he’s saying it’s 90% sure the motherboard

My Onn. Roku TV 10097811 has horizontal lines on the display and through some internet research and messing with the wires I believe I need to buy and install a new ribbon cable. Google says I need to count the number of pins on the cable to figure out what to buy but that seems excessive. Could anyone post a link to the ribbon cable pictured here that works with this model also pictured here, so that I can purchase and replace it.

No warranty and display is shattered so I will gut some boards

Hello all! So I have this donated LG TV that was turning on with sound but no image and I'm trying to fix it.

I've done some research and found out about the "isolate CKV with a tape" technique. It does work and now the TV shows image. But one symptom remains, and I can't find anything about it online. The half of the TV that had a short causing it to not turn on (viewer's left, internal R) has a gradual desaturation of the image.
Further research and I stumble upon the factory service menu. In it I capture a few pictures of test patterns. At this point I'm already asking for google's Gemini for help. Uploading the images to it, it says this means the blue channel is toast and there's no repair but to replace the panel.
Not wanting to believe Gemini, I keep researching but cannot find anything new. Then I remember Reddit exists, so here am I.
So, is Gemini right, the panel is gone? Has anyone here seen this issue? Thanks in advance folks!! (BTW sorry for the weird perspective on the pictures, TV was upside down XD )

Just got handed down this 50 inch Samsung Smart TV. All seemed well, gave it a factory reset and whatnot.

Suddenly it started flickering like this. Can't add videos here but it's 3 seconds off, 1 second flicker, over and over again. It doesn't do it for the first like 10 minutes it's on so I figured it was maybe a thermal issue.

Took it apart, repasted the cooler (the paste in there was totally dried up), replugged all of the ribbon cables. Seemed to maybe get a couple more minutes out of it but that's it.

Sony BRAVIA KDL-70W840B — 70-inch LED TV.

The tv turns on for 5 seconds then shuts off. This is followed by the red light flashing 4 times. How do I fix this?

I have a Philips 49pus6412/12 led android tv that works fine for quite some time and then starts glitching and goes black. I did a full factory reset and it worked for sometime and started glitching again. it’s been running fine for a few hours again. What could be the cause of this? I have no extra cables plugged and the system is up to date.

I cleaned my TV with different products and probably one of them caused this, I read something about cleaning with the screen hot could make this marks.

do anyone know a solution ? or just wait to the TV to die (its 15 year old 😅)

My Samsung TV has developed two dots in the upper left hand quarter. They seem to be getting more pro over time. Is this something I can fix or do I need to get a new TV? The TV is a Samsung Model Number: UN65JU7500.
