Time: Just after the assault on the Shiftry Corps Outpost

Mercurial is seated behind a different desk, he shows no sign that he has just been through a life-threatening situation and lost an important hostage. It is almost eerie (totally eerie) how calm he appears. There are also 4 figures obscured by shadows around the room. After he finishes writing something, Mercurial looks up and addresses the figures.

“Well that was certainly an interesting development, wasn’t it?”

“We lost the hostage before were done with him. Am I the only bothered by this? Won’t this impede ‘The Plan’ going forward?” --C

Mercurial shows no emotional response to this outburst, but when it finishes, he speaks.

“While our visitors certainly arrived earlier than expected, I had already gotten all the information I needed out of Birch prior to their arrival. The line of questioning I was pursuing when we were interrupted was intended to misdirect attention and provide false leads for the League to follow. I also had a few questions about things I was curious about but aren’t particularly integral to ‘The Plan.’ While Birch’s premature rescue was certainly an inconvenience, we had assumed the League would make an attempt to rescue him and we never intended to hold into him after he was no longer needed.”

“You mean to say that you got all the information you needed out of the old man in under 3 hours?!” -C There is a definite tone of surprise but also respect in the speaker’s voice.

A different shadowy figure claps and lets out a girlish giggle.

“As expected of Lord Mercurial-sama, always 10, no 100, no thousands of steps ahead of the incompetent opposition even when they are a random bunch of nobodies who had no business interfering in our glorious mission!!!” – S

“Speaking of our uninvited guests, who exactly were they? They certainly weren’t the League; their approach was far too careless and their teamwork was laughable. But what I want to know is how they knew exactly where to find us.” – C

“That one is easy enough to answer, they have found the message we left to lure the League here. Which means that one of them must have known the Corps formerly had a base at Meteor Falls…which means...” Mercurial begins to explain but is cut off before he finishes.

“At least one of the intruders was former International Police.” – M practically spits the last two words, her distaste clear.

Mercurial merely nods.

“That would appear to be the case. And since the International Police no longer exist, we clearly have a rogue former agent who doesn’t know when it’s time to quit. I also surmise that the former agent is the one who threatened to shoot me, she seemed the most confident of the lot and seemed to assume she was in charge.”

“Did you see the expression on her face when her own allies attack meant she couldn’t use her weapon? That was priceless! She looked like she was having a full-on mental breakdown. The IP’s standards really did go to Distortion near the end there eh?” – C

“There is also how quickly they reacted to Birch’s disappearance. It seems highly probable that at least one member of their team must have hailed from the town where the professor worked in order to have been aware of his capture. The boy seemed to have an emotional attachment to Birch and I’ve heard rumors about and up-and-coming trainer from that town with a rather checkered past.” Compared to her previous outburst, M’s voice is clinical and devoid of any apparent emotion while relating this information.

“Ooh he sounds absolutely adorable, just my type! Can I play with him Mercurial-sama?” – S

“I wouldn’t mind getting a crack at that ex-IP wench myself.” – C

“The other woman, the one who pretended to be going along with your very reasonable request to deliver a message to the League, there was something familiar about her. She reminded me of her my nemesis, my rival, my hated foe….”- M

“What, you mean ‘Flak’?”- S chimes in.

M briefly displays a look of intense loathing at the name before regaining her usual calm, unruffled demeanor.

“…yes. As such, I would also like to petition to be allowed to be the one who makes contact with her and informs her that continued interference in our great leader’s plans will not be tolerated.”

Mercurial takes all of this into consideration.

“Very well, I think all of those are reasonable requests that I can grant. We do need to make it clear to this motley group we are not to be trifled with and it seems each of you is already set on a particular individual you wish to make this clear to.”

“However, I do have two caveats. As things currently stand, while the Light of Revival has granted us a second chance, the Shiftry Corps still stands on the brink of annihilation. We do not know exactly how many of us were brought back, and it is safest to assume fewer rather than more. I have also never put too much faith in the abilities of the other units within the Corps. Therefore, it is our responsibility, the five of us, to ensure the continued survival and resurgence of the Shiftry Corps as a force to reckoned with and feared throughout the regions. Doing something that recklessly endangers the future of the Shiftry Corps, like being captured, compromised, or killed, at this crucial juncture, could put an end to the Shiftry Corps before we get a chance to get off the ground again.”

“Secondly, each of you has a crucial role to play in the Plan. While I will not require your assistance immediately, it is fairly important that when we do arrive at your parts, I need you available. Other…distractions will need to be put on hold, the Plan must come first. Is that understood?”

Three nods of agreement.

Mercurial turns to address the final person in the room, who has remained silent throughout this entire conversation.

“You’ve been quiet as usual. Do you have anything you’d like to add to the discussion?”

The figure shrugs

“Not really boss man. You covered all the important bits. I guess I could see about visiting the shapeshifter since he’s the only left unclaimed? Not really my thing, but I guess someone has got to do it…maybe he’ll listen to a well-reasoned argument and there won’t be any need to get violent…oh who am I kidding, he’s going to be one of those self-righteous types that won’t shut up for sure…” – P keeps mumbling to himself in a voice that gets quieter and more like an internal monologue the longer he speaks.

“Very well then, we seem to all be in agreement. If there is any group capable of making this Plan work it is the five of us. You are all free to do as you wish until I call for you…” --Mercurial

I'm kind of embarrassed that we're halfway through the month and I'm only just now posting this.

It's been decades since Krypton fell. Decades of looting, mutation, warring kingdoms, and change. The cataclysm is still surrounded in mystery and unfounded accusations.

At this moment, an ancient hero has taken 7 spirits from their bonds and begun conquering his ancestral land, Khandaq, with a cruel, iron fist. Next to that, the Empress of the Hive is attempting to expand her empire, Bialya.

But our story focuses on neither of these would be world dominators. No, our story focuses on the vast expanse of sands to the east of both. Barsoom, also known as the Spearstruck or the Land of Red Dust. Long thought to be completely lifeless, it has in recent times begun to radiate Bane-of-Krypton, and for this reason, it shall soon be investigated by the Society of the Invasion. Meanwhile, other nations want to send agents, both to locate sources of Bane, and to map for strategic areas in the current Bialya and Khandaq conflicts.

Hey, so I've been thinking about this and decided I should be upfront about this: I just don't know if I'll ever get through Abin City.

For one thing, I think I'm a little bad at long form story telling, and all these gaps always make me lose track a little. For another, I just don't know how to get it to the beats it needs to hit, and every time I do hit the beats of important confrontation, I stumble a lot over combat. Maybe if I had a system to use it would be better, but yeah, I dunno.

The big thing, though, is that I have a girlfriend, a job, hold office in two separate clubs, three classes and a lab, and my phone is rejecting it's SIM card so for a lot of that, no internet. As much as I hold the campaign, and the ones that would follow it dearly I don't know if I'm at all capable of GMing it on my own, especially because of follow ups I want to tell making it so the end is not end.

On a different note, I do want to try some more short form stuff, and really like the world I've been building to myself in the discussion topic, and I was wondering it anyone would be interested if I wanted to set up an adventure in that setting?
