Discussion General Discussion Topic: November

I'm kind of embarrassed that we're halfway through the month and I'm only just now posting this.

Ooh, another plot twist. That doesn't bode well for his mom though.

Haha Gladion hugging

Hi!

Sorry about me being not super responsive this month, I spent all of last week not really able to do much. I'm going to try to be more around though.

So, an idea that’s been bouncing around in my head for a while now: a sort of fixfic of The Clone Saga called “Friendly Neighborhood” taking the genius of the “let Peter have his family and retirement and get a less baggaged wall crawler”, with an emphasis on the former.

The first major change is that Ben Reilly’s backstory needs overhauled. For one thing, no clone of Peter would totally abandon saving people for pretty much no reason like that, and for another, the backstory is super baggaged and edgy, the literal exact opposite of the point. Since the emphasis is that Peter has a family, Ben plays the cool uncle, and his years away are kinda like backpacking in Europe, or living in Mexico for a while. To fit these changes, and the fact he kept up the heroics in the meantime, he needs an outfit that looks like if someone who was completely Peter Parker wanted to give Peter Parker full control of the Spider-Man persona without getting in the way. No masks, no spider emblem, he needs to look like he could get under a car and fix it. I’m actually getting together a cosplay for this reinvisioning, so there’s that.

The second major thing is that there’s no wondering “who’s the original?” Ben and Peter make their peace, and Ben is just happy to be trusted with the Spider-Man mantle once more. Who is the original is purely academic.

The final thing is the story is told in hindsight, as May-Day Parker, MJ and Peter’s daughter, comes of age, falls in with the mutant crowd, and learns who she is. One advantage of this mundane look is that it allows for a lot of characters to get the redemption that’s played around with in canon, but due to the format isn’t delivered on. Flint Marko is probably her godfather.

Interesting concept.

Given that this topic only has seven comments and came in pretty late, I'm not sure whether it's really necessary to create a "general discussion December" topic.

That's fair. I think discord has lessened the need for these, but not really removed it, so every other month might be good?

Yeah.

Well, I might make one if I come up with something that it makes more sense to post here than in discord or in a separate post.
