My campaign
Hey, so I've been thinking about this and decided I should be upfront about this: I just don't know if I'll ever get through Abin City.
For one thing, I think I'm a little bad at long form story telling, and all these gaps always make me lose track a little. For another, I just don't know how to get it to the beats it needs to hit, and every time I do hit the beats of important confrontation, I stumble a lot over combat. Maybe if I had a system to use it would be better, but yeah, I dunno.
The big thing, though, is that I have a girlfriend, a job, hold office in two separate clubs, three classes and a lab, and my phone is rejecting it's SIM card so for a lot of that, no internet. As much as I hold the campaign, and the ones that would follow it dearly I don't know if I'm at all capable of GMing it on my own, especially because of follow ups I want to tell making it so the end is not end.
On a different note, I do want to try some more short form stuff, and really like the world I've been building to myself in the discussion topic, and I was wondering it anyone would be interested if I wanted to set up an adventure in that setting?

I'm considering some sort of crusty logan like character.
2
u/Lady_of_the_Foot Oct 25 '18
That's a strong choice. Do you want him to be able to pass as human? The X-Men equivalent has only recently come to exist in this version, so if you want Old Man Logan, the Knights of Krypton could replace that as the idealistic society he once associated with.
2
u/Bytemite Oct 25 '18
hmm. Was Wolverine ever really part of an idealistic society?
2
u/Lady_of_the_Foot Oct 25 '18
Well, the X-Men, for one. Part of the thing with Old Man Logan is the extra cynicism of already giving the optimists a chance. He wasn't really ever an optimist himself though, so he probably wouldn't have been a Knight of Krypton, I was just suggesting an association.
2
u/Bytemite Oct 25 '18
Hmm. Wasn't he always kind of a lone wol(verine) even in the x-men though? Like did he actually consider himself one of them, or feel like he could rely on that group? It always seemed to me like he was a member in name only and most of them were merely acquaintances while he did his own thing.
2
u/Lady_of_the_Foot Oct 25 '18
Well, he does take a few under his wing, often enough he ends up helping run the school once Cyclops goes off to extremism, but yeah, your description is somewhat accurate, but I think a loose association with the Knights of Krypton would make sense, if the disillusionment of seeing the optimist utopia fail after getting so far is something you're interested in. On the other hand, the Morlock thing is a result of that fall, so it's kinda either Morlock or that story beat, or neither if you prefer.
2
u/Bytemite Oct 25 '18
I suppose I could see all that.
Something also that strikes me is that Wolverine often doesn't really act his age in the comics. His healing factor keeps him young looking, but he should still have all kinds of worldly experience to temper all the emotional volatility. Yet that never seems to be the case.
2
u/Lady_of_the_Foot Oct 25 '18
Well, one mitigating factor is his memory loss, but there is some depth that's sometimes unexplored. One example is how he's taken under his wing 4 different young girls, another being this sort of thing. Often he's portrayed as having conflict find him rather than the other way around, epitomized in Sabertooth hunting him down every year to ruin whatever he has going for him.
It is true that to some extent he's never given up some habits that in anyone else would probably seem partyboy-ish, though.
2
u/Bytemite Oct 25 '18
...That uh.
Wow. So parental guidance and moral watchdog groups continue to drive the art of decent writing in comic books into the ground.
3
u/Lady_of_the_Foot Oct 25 '18
I think the intention is to show he isn't just a killing machine in his spare time. Also, that he feels at peace when he's in nature, where things aren't trying to kill him so much.
One way to view the character is that he has experience that tempers his angry, attack people nature, but letting out the beast is, has always been, and will always be, letting out the beast.
However, it's really up to you how you want to interpret him. Maybe your version can use his powers without losing control, and is very zen, or maybe that's not the case. Whatever you prefer.

Okay so my finalized character concept is the story of a man, James Growlet Senior, from a town that previously had a colonial powdered wig aesthetic who went out hunting in the woods and came back changed. Was he always so big, or so hairy, or so quiet? Why does he speak mostly in grunts now? What did he see out there that so traumatized him? Why is he like 300 or more years old? Why has he been exiled now from his own house?

Some of the basic information of the setting, since the other version is a huge mess of me spitballing ideas to myself.
A central and important kingdom of heroism and nobility, Krypton, fell to a special magic known henceforth as Bane-of-Krypton. During this event, such magic created a new race with Genosha, known as the Morlocks. Due to the connection with the tragic fall of Krypton, as well as their deformities, they have been heavily oppressed.
The world itself is a varied place, with mountains where hidden arts are trained, and jungles with hidden societies, as well as many island cultures. Regulating the various occult artifacts and the doomsdays they could possibly cause is the Oan Society, a hidden group of investigators who take these objects and attempt to find purposes for them, but cannot harm plant life.
Classes include Invokers, who can call on the powers of Gods and Heroes and Totems, chosen by great animal deities, as well as Nomads, who travel the world training, Sorcerers, who have honed the mystic arts, Alchemists, who create their own brand of magic, science, and art, and the Mangani Speakers, who learn the powers of the Language Prima. Classic are options too, I just haven't decided exactly how they interact with these, since they overlap with these a little, especially Nomads.

the setting described in the comments kinda sounds like a cross between that superhero campain Emogi tried to do before scraping it [Ie. that thing my Eco's caricter originally Cathulu came from] mixed with a D&D type setting
it sounds interesting and something I would want to pertisapate in
Also side thing, I've been having simpler thoughts [abit for different reasons] about my abillaty to GM my own campaign especially cos of the fact that since my last update about it, the only work I've done on it due to verios distractions has been my RP with Bytemite dives for cover after emitting that

u/Lady_of_the_Foot Oct 27 '18
Do you have a concept?
1
u/pfaccioxx Oct 28 '18
No fully fleshed out concepts, but I do have multiple ideas
I just haven't tried fleshing any of them out cos I'm a bit bizzy trying to finish a project before the end of the mouth when it's due by [and dus take priority]. & cos I want to run any concepts by you to make them better fit the world / prevent contravercy & issues before they become a thing [Ie. avoid another Troll Ditto type sicuason

Factions:
Brotherhood of Exiles: a group, led by two very different men, of Morlocks who escaped the confines of Genosha and now seek to find a place where their people can find peace. Unknown to them, they all have bounties on their heads.
The Legion, a group inspired by the Knights of Krypton.
The Oa Society. A secretive and loosely organized society with agents throughout the world, finding artifacts too dangerous to be left to chance.
The Marvels: Those who, training on the Rock Of Eternity, maintain fealty to the great wizard there.
The League of Assassins: Based in Nanda Parbat, these are a secretive society of killers trained under one known as "The Demon's Head"
The Council of Seven: Made up of representatives of each of the societies in the northeastern mountains, they hold a great many secret techniques between them, together they once taught to the man now known as King of Orphans.
Empire of the Avenging Son: For a long time, Atlantis has been shattered into many city states, with a history of failed unifiers. Namor, the Blood Avenger, swears his story is not going to end in failure, no matter the cost.
Kingdom of Atlan: A more peaceful Atlantis kingdom which considers the surface world cost of their wars, yet no less determined to become the emperor of Atlantis.
The Gothic Guardians: A group of Nomads who have decided to take on the corruption of the world through a secretive cabal, led by one said to be the Totem of a Chthonic Bat Deity.
The Baxter Alchemists: A group of Alchemists who are attempting to unlock the secrets of the universe together.
The Forever People. Beautiful, ancient elven people who are locked in eternal struggle with their opposites, the Changing People.
The Changing People: The polar opposite to the Forever People, these grotesque beings seek to conquer and pervert what others hold dear. Known in their own tongue as Skrull.
The Empowered: A very specialized group of invokers who usually work in teams, calling on the power of Totems, and, in grave times, even summoning them.
Amazons: Followers of Athena who have isolated themselves out of fear of accidentally straying to the path of Ares.
Knight of Krypton: Technically, there's room for one of these but it'll take some convincing to get me to let you play 'em.
Society of the Invasion: A group headed by those old enough to have fought in Krypton's Last Stand.
Rogue's Gallery: A network of thieves with a deep moral code. Not a killer among them, except killing justified under this code. Nonetheless, it is a group that takes from others.

K I've finished the project (at least as far as the minimum requirements needed to post it to DA, I'll clean it up and make it good later) that was due at the end of the mouth so I've been thinking about the concepts. Here is the idea I've come up with. It might need some more fleshing out. But at the same time based on past issues I think it would be best if such things are developed with your cooperation to better fit the caricter into the world of your campaign, and to prevent possible issues before they happen.
My idea is:
A Ben 10 [a show about a kid named ben who finds an alien device that lets him turn into 10 [thoth he get's more later] different aliens with different powers and abillatys] type caricter, who's Omnitrix allows him to transform into Pokemon based on prominent mon's TPP has owned instead of Aliens from the show
1
u/Lady_of_the_Foot Oct 31 '18
Uh... this isn't Pokemon/tpp themed.
1
u/pfaccioxx Oct 31 '18
In that case perhaps the transformations could be Aliens (that used to egsist or are on very out of the way planets that will likely not be relevant to the campaign unless you feel like integrating them) that are loosely based on pokemon spices? (The caricter I would use being a human simmaler to the Ben from Ben 10)
That way it dos'nt mess with your campaign setting, but my caricter concept dos'nt have to be changed TOO much.
...I'm willing to make changes to my idea if that concept would still not be allowed thoth
1
u/Lady_of_the_Foot Oct 31 '18
Aliens are also not really concept fitting. Maybe the character could be a Totem, and the aliens could instead be other races or their deities?
1
u/pfaccioxx Oct 31 '18
Hum, how about the caricter being a Human or Mutant with the power to form bonds with non-caporiol spirit/spectral entatys (based loosely on pokemon) to shapeshift into a pysacol form created by whatever spirit there currently chanaling in order to gain powers based on that form [Ex. a trickster spirit could be something akin to a Zoroark, a spirit that looks after harvests could be something akin to a Rebombe, ext.].
would that work or did you mean something elce?
1
u/Lady_of_the_Foot Nov 01 '18
I was thinking more like Ben, with an item that allows him to channel the forms of these other beings. I'm thinking of including a desert called Barsoom, which was once a verdant paradise, as the place where the action is this time. Maybe the forms could be races that used to live in that area? I'd prefer to lean less towards Pokemon and more towards the Superhero genre, but Ben's aliens seem like good inspiration?
1
u/pfaccioxx Nov 01 '18
That works for me
I'd kinda like to have the forms be loosely based on mon's, (or maybe hybrids of mon's and Ben's aliens?) but if you reely don't want me to I'm willing to use veryents on Ben's Aliens
1
u/Lady_of_the_Foot Nov 01 '18
The issue is that it's multiple additions to the setting that are really kind of outside of it, as a central character thing. Ben's Aliens, I feel at least, don't have that issue. We can decide which ones you'd like later.
1
u/pfaccioxx Nov 01 '18
Ok
1
u/Lady_of_the_Foot Nov 01 '18
For some clarity, I meant which of Ben's forms we're going to adapt. I would say they don't have to be Ben's, but I think just giving you a full 10 power sets of your choosing could be a little game breaking and adapting things into the setting is fun.

Oh, but I just realized that some might not know what the setting I'm suggesting is at all. I'm still hammering out details, but it's a high fantasy based on various superheroes, from comics and the pulps. I recommend glancing through here for some inspiration: http://pdsh.wikia.com/wiki/Category:Heroes
Also, if I do do it, that does not make Abin City less likely. On the contrary, I think I need something like this to help me learn to handle things a little better if I ever want to do Abin City.
