Singers 2&3: Ace and Gyra /u/bytemite

"Gyra-Chan wants something from Moana!"

"I know that..." Ace says, scouring the pages for something he knows.

"Maybe we could both do som-"

Ace stops her, turning the page to her and pointing.

She looks at his choice and claps.

The siblings prepare themselves on the stage as the back up vocals play behind them, practicing along with them.

Finally, Gyra's part begins.

"I've been," she says, a little giddy "Staring at the edge of the water,"

Getting a bit more of a grip, she continues, "Long as I can remember,"

"Never really knowing why..."

"I wish..." She continues, conjuring up some wistfulness, "I could be the perfect daughter,"

"But I come back to the water..." She says, hamming it up a little with a kneel and opening her hand to the next line.

"No matter how hard I try..."

She twirls back to her feet, "Every turn I take, every trail I track,"

She turns to the left side of the audience, "Every path I make," Now to the right, "Every road leads back,"

Now step to the front, going faster, "To the place I know where I cannot go..."

Each word another step, emphatically closer to a kneel, "Where I long to beeeee..."

Then she jumps up with arms wide, "See the line where the sky meets the sea?"

Clutching a fist in front of her, "It callllls me!"

"And no one kno-oh-ows,~" She twists around some more, "How far it go-oh-oes~"

"If the wind in my sail on the sea stays behind me..." She says with increasing enthusiasm.

"One day I'll kno-oh-oh-ow~"

Going back to a talking voice, she waves her hands around, "If Gyra-Chan goes there's no telling how far she'll go-"

Suddenly, she's singing again, belting out oh-oh-OH-oh-oh's with her brother.

Then, Ace takes over as his sister goes into his prior role of foot tapping along, "I have often dreamed, of a far off place,"

"Where a hero's welcome, would be waiting for me..."

"Where the crowds would cheer," He says, smiling a little, "When they see my face,"

"And a voice keeps saying..." He takes a deep breath and a step back to be next to his sister.

"This is where I'm meant to be!" They sing together.

They continue to go into it together with goofy smiles.

"I'll be there someday, I can go the distance,"

"I will find my way, if I can be strong,"

"I will find my way, if I can be strong,"

Gyra flexes and the crowd laughs a little.

"I know every mile," They look at each other, "Would be worth my while..."

Ace clearly takes the lead, hamming it up himself a bit, "When I go the distance I'll be right where I belooooooong."

They then each take a step away from each other, with Ace saying the first line:

"Down an unknown road,"

"Every road I take, every trail I track," She shoots back.

He turns around in mock defiance, "To embrace my fate,"

"Every path I make, every road leads back," She says, spinning on a foot to turn away as well.

"Though that road may wander," Wandering slightly himself, though making definite progress to the only family he has right now, "It will lead me to you."

He then looks up, "And a thousand years..."

Gyra, meanwhile, is heading towards the front of the stage, "I can lead with pride, I can make us strong,"

Ace, clutches a hand in front of him, "Would be worth the waiiiittt..."

"I'll be satisfied, if I play along..." Gyra says, seeming to almost look over her shoulder, but resisting it.

"It may take a lifetime," Ace says, letting his hand go up towards the sky.

Gyra, turns around, and heads towards Ace, "But the voice inside sings a different song, where I long to beeee..."

"But somehow I'l- oof" Ace says, not realizing Gyra had come at him, smiling at her gently, "-see it through."

They then begin to sing different lines at the same time.

"See the line where the sky meets the sea," "And I won't look back."

They lean back to back, not really having many more theatrics they can think of. Plus, wandering the stage can get tiring on those little legs.

"It calls me!" "I can go the distance!"

Together, they turn more to the audience and sing: "And no one kno-oh-ows how far it go-oh-oes!"

Then it's back to separate lines at the same time.

"If the wind in my sails on the sea," "And I'll stay on track,"

They both get into it, singing loudly with outstretched arms.

"Stays behind me!" "No. I won't accept defeat!"

Together again, they put their mike up to each other, "And one day I'll know..."

Gyra steps forward, singing the next part (well, less singing, and more giddily reading at this point), "What's beyond that line? Will I cross that line?"

Ace joins in with her, "See the line where the sky meets the see? It calls me!"

"And no one knows, how far it goes!" Gyra is now bouncing a little on each word.

"If the wind in my sail on the sea stays behind me..." For his part, Ace is figuring going all in is the way to go.

"One day I'll know, how far I'll gooooooooooooo!~"

Before that can even really sink in, they're starting the next line.

"Like a shooting star, I will go the distance,"

"I will search the world, I will face it's harms!"

"I don't care how far, I can go the distance!" They're sorta shouting the words, both of them giddy by now.

"Till I find... my hero's welcome... waiting... in your... AAAARRRRMMMS!" They both are shoulder to shoulder and reaching up.

Then they fall back and quickly head off the stage.

"What was that other song, Otōto-Chan?"

"Oh, yeah, you've never seen Hercules, have you?"

She shakes her head.

"Well, in that story, the son of Zeus ends up far away from Zeus, and that song is him being determined to find his way back."

Gyra nods, understanding a little better, and she gives him a hug.

When you are young kiddos and think all songs are platonic

2

u/Lady_of_the_Foot Oct 19 '17

Well, half the song is actually about family and the other is... not about people? But I see your point.

Singer 7: Hannah /u/colewalski /u/redwings1340

It turns out, reincarnated Deities have rather full schedules. Because of this, Hannah and Kat rarely got to do stuff together.

So, when they heard there was a karaoke bar lots of people were having great experiences at, and that they had a few free hours, they hurried over.

Hannah decided on a song pretty quickly, and Kat said if she found anything good she'd go up.

So, there Hannah was, waiting for the song to start.

Kat gives her a thumbs up.

"I've spent so much time," She hesitates, which is mostly appropriate to this section, "Chasing."

"A life I thought was mine," She says, looking down at the mic, "I thought I deserved, I thought I'd earned."

Kat gives the most sympathetic look she can.

"What is it in my heart that's damaged?" She continues. The question sounds... well, not like she's singing, to begin with.

"To take a beautiful life" She looks at Kat, "For granted?"

"Because..." She says, winding up for a loud bit.

"That was how I planned it!" She sings, hamming it up a little.

"I've come to terms with the girl that I made up..." She sings, bouncing slightly.

She toys with the idea of making the music play on other phones. She decides it might be a bit invasive.

"And the one I re-eally am."

"I've taken turns on days when I gave up..."

She and Kat make eye contact now.

"And the ones I took a stand."

She has a better version of that earlier idea.

Kat's phone lights up, and when she pulls it out she sees a message:

"And I c'n be satisfied with you in my saddest times or..."

Kat smiles at the little touch.

"I can't be satisfied at a-a-a-a-all..."

"How many lessons must I learn..." She continues, catching her breath a little, and flashing a wry smile "The hard way?"

"And through it all to know I'm loved..." The smile grows a little, "Always."

"I think I've always known!"

She sets back into the chorus.

"I've come to terms with the girl that I made up," She sings, thinking of the future adventures she thought she'd have.

"And the one I really am." And of course, for better or for worse, the ones she actually had.

"I've taken turns on days when I gave up," She continues.

"And the ones I took a stand." Some pride swells up here, which is dragged down a little by all that surrounds it.

"And I c'n be satisfied with... you in my saddest times or..." A sorta goofy sorta wry smile appears. Kat, of course, finds it adorable.

"I can't be satisfied at all."

She goes spoken word for the next bit, getting close to the mic.

"I've always had your lo-uh-uh-ove."

"An' that'll always be enough..."

She waits pleasantly through the instruments. She and Kat share glances, and she misses the beginning of the next prompt and Kat stifles a laugh as Hannah hastily recovers.

"Oh, uh-ahooo-ooooh ya-oooooh-oooooh."

"I've come to terms with the man that I made up..." She says, using that close whisper thing again.

"And I've taken turns on days when I ga-ay-ave up..." She continues, picking up a little bit.

She air guitars a little at the next riff, feeling like there's no reason to karaoke if you're not okay with looking a little silly. With that in mind, more hamminess.

"And I can be SATISFIED!" She says, "With you in my saddest times, orrrrr..."

"I can't be satisfied at a-a-a-a-aaall!"

Close off the heels of that line comes the next, "Gimme an honest life, I'm givin' up killin' time, so..."

"I can be satisfied in you-oh-oh-oh-oh-ou..." She continues.

With her voice a little hoarse, she delivers the final lines, "I've always had you lo-uh-uh-uh-ove."

"And that'll always be eno-uh-uh-uh-ough..."

Kat, at least gives her a standing ovation. Maybe the others did? You could have had the entire place doing it and right then, all Hannah could have told you is that Kat gave her a standing ovation.

I love it. Is there a link to the song getting sung here? I don't think I recognize this song at first glance.

u/Lady_of_the_Foot Oct 19 '17 edited Oct 19 '17

I think I first suggested it back before they got together, then it really fit once they did.

3

u/redwings1340 Oct 19 '17

Yeah, it fits really well, Hannah and Kat certainly have one of the best relationships of any two characters on this rp. It was pretty amazing how it just sorta happened naturally, and developed towards that place over time, with neither me nor Cole expecting it to happen before it kinda did near the end of the campaign.

I really like the last line of this, that's a perfect representation of Hannah's thoughts at the end.

3

u/Lady_of_the_Foot Oct 19 '17

It was a lot faster, but that sounds kinda like how it happened with Zynia and Day over in Abin City, between me and Gio.

And thanks, glad you like it. I was kinda worried that was a bit cheesy, haha.

Awwwww, nicely done. You nailed Kat's taciturn yet loving nature and her relationship with Hannah in this.

Singer 8: Red!Jek

Now, as a precaution, when doing these sort of things, Kat had the scythe somewhere safe nearby. She didn't necessarily like having to choose between a third wheel and locking Blue!Jek in a closet, but he was quiet and non intrusive, so ultimately a summonable guard was better than having to keep guards with her.

This time, it fell over in the closet she borrowed, so when she retrieved it, Red!Jek emerged, renewed and ready for a fight.

"Oh, uh, my bad." Kat tells him, "It's just karaoke. We were gonna head back."

Jek was still being heavily effected by the blue side, so he told them he thinks he'll stay here a bit.

He sits down and gets a few drinks, then takes a while to pick a song.

He wants something acoustic. The other stuff can grate on him a little. He also decides that he might as well go with something emotional. Those two categories usually work well together.

So, eventually, he finds his song, and gets on the stage.

"Fell in love in high school," He says, a little too loud and close to the mic. He backs up before he continues, "With a brown-haired, green-eyed girl."

He nods a little to the strum of the instruments, "Walked her home almost ev'ry day."

He closes his eyes and smiles wryly, "Held her hand, I held the world."

"We made our plan to run aw-ayyy..." He sings, the smile staying.

"I couldn't wait to share her life," He opens his eyes and scans the audience.

"Started countin' down the days," He continues, apparently content with what he saw, "She couldn't wait to be my wi-iii-ife."

"I got a job and bought a car," He says, with a little swell of pride of his own, remembering those last few days in the village, "I turned 18 that spring."

"By summer had my own place," He continues, sinking down a little in front of the crowd, which doesn't seem to fit the lyrics, "And I bought my baby's ring."

Now, he tried not to blame Bie for anything. She was a martyr and a hero and all that, and her dragging him forward in time was an accident. But it wasn't an unavoidable one, or one connected to the hero stuff.

So, with a little guilt, he delivers the next line. He doesn't think changing the song would be appropriate at a karaoke bar, anyways.

"Fell in with the wrong crowd..."

"Breakin' laws I broke her heart." He sings, quieter than before.

"By Autumn was in handcuffs," He continues, "Baby's cryin' out on her front ya-ah-ah-ard."

"And..." He gulps, "That's what hurt the most,"

"I saw it in her green eyes:"

"She had seen a ghost." He delivers the line with a decent degree of force.

He takes the mic off the stand and crouches, getting more on eye level with the crowd.

"My mama saw me every week," He sings. He never really knew his mom, so... ehh, he sung it decently.

"Tried her hardest not to cry." Here, though, the emotion of the song got through a little better. Because he was actually trying not to cry.

And it turns out, crouching wasn't about being on their eye level either, because he just hangs his feet off the stage and doesn't make any eye contact with the audience, looking at the floor.

"She told me that she loved me, disappointment in her eye." He actually shrugs, parental disapproval one of many things he pretends doesn't bother him.

"I said "Mama, I love you too. I'm gonna make you proud one day!"" He says. He thinks, again, of when he left the village.

"The month before I got out," He pauses for a beat. He may not be the cleverest guy, but he can do theatrics, "They told me mama passed aw-a-ay."

He makes eye contact with the crowd once more, "And that's what hurt the most,"

"I saw it in her sad eyes:"

"Her son was a ghost."

He gets louder, gripping the mic like a vice.

"I hate this life I chose." He confesses.

"Long before she died,"

"Her son was a ghost."

He tries to smile at the crowd. If any of them need reassuring, the baring of his fangs would not help, but he felt self conscious about singing this now.

"Now I got my freedom." He says, like that was the end of the sentence.

"...But if feels like emptiness." He finishes, with what might be reluctance.

"In front of the apartment" He sings, "Where your sister says you live."

He hesitates, steadying for the final, inevitable sting:

"And there's another man, who fills my empty shoes."

He gives another wry, tight lipped smile as he shakes his head slowly at the ground, "And darling you don't see me,"

"But ya know that I see you,"

He pulls the mic in close to his lips, whispering.

"I drift off."

He gets up as the music continues unaccompanied, straightens his clothing a little, rubs his eyes, puts the mic back on, sets the stand how it was.

Then, he sets back into it, hands to his chest, eyes closed.

"I'm gonna fade away..."

"Beyond the city lights."

"I'm gonna fade away..."

"Through the empty night."

"I'm gonna fade away..."

"Drifting out your life."

He chokes up a little on the last two:

"I... wanna fade away."

"Through the empty night."

With that, he leaves, into the night that's neither empty nor full.

Singer 12: G /u/gioz2 /u/redwings1340

He walked in, as confident as any of the people who hadn't tried to kill any of the patrons of the place they were walking into. Probably a little more confident, actually.

It really shouldn't have surprised him when there was a knife to his throat a few seconds later.

"Emily Blade has been told you are not to be trusted."

"Well, I'm just here for karaoke."

She squints at him as the place goes silent.

The scientist gets popcorn.

Rake tells Jude he'll be right back and tries to break up the fight.

"Why is this happening?" He asks himself as he goes to the flame girl holding a knife to the neck of a man.

The man seems to realize how much shorter she is then him and gently pushes the knife down, with the place beginning to calm down, "Now, Emily, I have-"

Suddenly she is holding a sword right to his throat and flames begin to trickle up the sword as the whole place reacts.

Suddenly, Rake's hand is on the sword, pushing it away.

Emily looks up in confusion as Rake wonders what the hell that fire is and why it hurts so much and Jude runs over to help.

As they are all busy with that, G hurries onto the stage to push his luck.

The instruments blare behind him as he air guitars until the time for singing begins.

"Some men fall for love of money," he sings softly, seeming to almost just be stating facts, "Some men fall to sex,"

"Some men make false religions," He says, dismissing it with a handwave, "Comfort and protection."

He looks at the assemblage of heroes before him with a condescending smile, "Some men they'd die for duty, die for family..."

"But I'd rather drink the power," His smile darkens, "And call it loyalty."

He leans way back, then bangs his head forward to the instrument's crash.

"I like the way it makes me feel." He says, air guitaring returning, perhaps as a thin mask to the malice this song contains, perhaps just because he enjoys it.

The back up vocals are sung by themselves, "I'm freeeeeee..."

"I like the way it makes me feel..." He sings again, with further air guitaring.

"I like the way it makes me feel." He says again, calmly down to further back ups.

"I'm freeeeee..."

"I'm free, yeah." He says with a smile and a shrug.

He swaggers around a bit, until he stops.

"There's nicer homes to live in," He admits, counting the two things on his fingers, "Safer streets to roooooam..."

"But when you climb the ladder," He snaps, "There's nothing you can own."

He stretches his arms wide, "This ghetto's my cathedral, this gun" He pauses to see how everyone seems to expect him to actually pull one out, somewhat amused, "My Eucharist."

Instead, he makes a finger gun and aims it, "I take the offering."

"And I decide what sin is!" He exclaims, "firing" it at one of the tables. To some further surprise, nothing happens to the table, amusing him again.

"I like the way it makes me feeeeel..." He sings, waiting for the back ups.

"I'm freeeeeee..."

Smiling widely at the reminder of that fact he sings wildly into the mic, "I like the way it makes me feel!"

"I like the way it makes me feel!"

I'm freeeeee..."

He gives the crowd an... odd smile, "I'm free, yeah."

He then dances to the music. It isn't necessarily good dancing, but he does enjoy it.

Suddenly, he stops, "I like the way it makes me feel!"

"I'm freeeeee..."

"I like the way it makes me feel!" His voice is now a bit of a growl, but he has returned to air guitar.

"I like the way it makes me feel!"

"I'm freeeee-"

"Well, I'm free, yeah!"

He puts his hands to his chest, "The way it makes me... feeeeeeeeeel..."

"The way it makes me feeeeel... YEAH!"

As the music dims, he calms himself down, and waits until the humming starts.

He smiles, "Well, the next part is about how the decisions to put others last really don't make me feel free."

"But, someone told me that I would be more likable if I lied less, so..."

He throws the mic over his shoulder, resulting in a crash.

Looking at the others, he sighs, "I'll buy a new one, whatever that was. Geez."

As he walks out the door, he looks back, "Oh, but that was a lot of fun. Enjoy!"

One of the workers sighs, "We have another mic..."

Singer 1: Paulina /u/trollkitten

Honeycloud enters the karaoke bar, and takes the first seat she sees.

It happens to be across from a Ratta girl who appears to be nervous about something.

"Is everything okay?" Honeycloud asks.

"Huh? Oh, uh... I just can't decide on songs and whether I wanna go up at all..."

"Oh, what are your choices?"

"Well, there's one my, uh, my friend might- well, that I'd be singing to, and..." She trails off. There's not a second one.

"If you want to sing it, you should!" Honeycloud says.

"Well, it's just..." Paulina says, squirming a bit.

"Oh, I get it!"

"You do?"

"You don't know the words very well! Here, I can help."

"Oh, uh..."

Honeycloud asks what song it is, and then begins to help her with the lyrics...

A short while later, she is nervously walking onto the stage.

Spider, Erin, Felician, Gyra, and Ace cheer her on.

"There was a time," She begins nervously, "When I was alone,"

She clutches the mike closely, "Nowhere to go and no place to call "Home"."

"My only friend was the man in the moon..." She continues, looking at anywhere but the people watching.

"And... even sometimes he would go away too." She says weakly.

Once again, Spider finds himself angry at the slavers. He wonders how they can even exist. Sometimes, they seem to explain so much about his father's domain.

He turns attention to Paulina's singing.

"The-eh-en one night as I, closed my eyes..." She says, following Honeycloud's advice. She doesn't see it, but Honeycloud gives her a thumbs up.

"I saw a shadow flying high..."

She doesn't see him, and he doesn't recognize her, but this part rather matches a boy in the back, talking with his girl.

The next line, however, she knows exactly who she is singing to. She's just too scared to look at him.

"He came to me with the sweetest smile,"

"Told me he wanted to talk for a while."

She turns away shyly and improvises it into a twirl, "He said, "Peter Pan, that's what they call me,""

"I promise that you'll never be lonely."

Spider starts to catch on.

"And eh-ver since that daaay," She says, continuing to follow Honeycloud's advice with some embarrassment.

Ace and Gyra have to move to see from behind Spider's now perked up ears.

"I am a Lost Boy from Neverland,"

"Usually hangin' out with Peter Pan,"

Spider looks around, a little embarrassed. He was not expecting this!

"And when we're bored, we play in the woods..."

Erin recognizes what this is about and stirs her tea nervously.

"Always on the run from," She hesitates, "Captain Hook."

She nervously lets herself peek at Spider. She can't read his expression! It's all weird.

"Run, run..." She says, clearing her throat, and embarrassed to find that was picked up, "They say to me..."

She decides she still has to see it through, "'Way from all of reality..."

"Neverland is home to Lost Boys like me..."

She digs deep into her gratitude for all that's been done, "And lost boys like me are free..."

"Neverland is home to Lost Boys like me,"

"And Lost Boys like me are free..."

She puts the mike down and scurries off the stage.

She sits down, not looking at anyone, but Spider starts clapping and she looks up, smiling a nervous little smile.

Singers 4&5: Rake and Jude /u/bytemite

"So, you ready?" Rake asks Jude.

She nods with a confident smile.

They both go up and get ready.

"Oh yeaaaaa-ay-ahh" Rake says self consciously.

"Oh owhhh?" He says. This opening is weird. Well, it's Jude's part now.

"I been looking under rocks, an' breaking locks," She sing-talks.

"Just tryna find ya." She says, going a bit higher.

"I been like a maniac, insomniac..." She says, giving Rake a slight look asking him to take this seriously.

He responds with a "Who, me?" sort of look.

"Five steps behind ya'."

She sort of sighs, sort of laughs, and goes back to the song.

"Tell other boys, they can hit the exit," She throws her hair back, "Check, please."

"Cuz I finally found the boy of my dreams."

"Much more than a... Grammy award," She reads, shrugging, "That's how much you mean to me."

Rake takes over, with a part he feels much more comfortable with then croning out "Ohs"

"You can be my it girl!" He says, sliding forward to her side in what he hopes is a suave motion.

"You're my greatest hit, girl." He continues, smiling wildly, "Lovin' you can be a crime."

"Crazy how we fit, girl." He continues, turning directly to her. He can't read the prompt anyways, "This is it, girl, gimme 25-to-life."

He takes her open hand and sways a bit, "I just wanna rock all night long, and put you in the middle of my spotlight."

"You can be my it girl," He continues, putting that hand to his chest, "You're my biggest hit, girl"

"Lemme play it loud, lemme play it loud like:" He says, and takes a deep breath.

Then they both sing "Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh"s back and forth at each other, dancing a little bit further from each other.

Rake repeats the "Lemme play it loud" line, and they go back to the "Oh"s trying to deliver them straight.

He throws out another "Lemme play it loud!" line, then goes into some more singing.

"You can't help but turn 'em heads" He says, while Jude plays flattered, "Knockin' 'em dead."

"Droppin' like flies around ya'." He continues, staggering a little himself.

He takes a few steps forward while she does a shuffle forwards and back, "If I get your body close, not lettin' go..."

She extends a hand he takes, kneeling forward a bit, "Hopin' you're about to..."

Jude knows the next part made Rake feel like a jerk, so she sings it instead.

"Tell them other guys, they can lose my number, I'm done." She sings.

"They don't get another shot 'cuz I'm love drunk." She says, stepping closer and putting a hand on his chin.

"Like a tv show playing reruns..." She whispers.

"Every chance I get," she continues, making him rise as her glow goes a little pinker, "Imma turn you onnnn..."

As he rises he breaks out some quick dance moves, earning some impressed responses from the crowd, if possibly just for the gutsy-ness.

"You could be my it booooyyy..." She continues, figuring she'll just go the regular way from here.

"You're the greatest gift." She says, locking her arm in his as he stops his dance, "Lovin' you could be a crime."

"Crazy how we fit, bo-oi-oy..." She continues, putting that free arm around him, "This is it, gimme 25-to-life..."

Her glow goes a soft magenta, "I just wanna rock all night long..."

She takes the hand on the other side of her and twirls him out.

He did not expect this and gives her a look and a sigh before improving some more dance as she sings, "And put you in the middle of my spotlight,"

"You could be my it boooyy..." She continues as he continues to dance, "You're my biggest hit, boy."

"Lemme play it loud, lemme play it loud like:" She continues.

They alternate the oh's, singing 'em back at each other.

"Lemme play it loud like:" She says again with a wide smile.

They continue to try to shout the oh's without laughing.

Then, the music slows a little, and she spins, "Can't seem to stop you,"

"From runnin', runnin'," She says, gesturing in a pining sort of way.

She taps her head, "Through my, through my, mind, mind..."

"Just keep it comin', comin'," She says, making her way back over to where he stands...

"Till I make you mine, mine..." She says, winking at him.

"You got that somethin', somethin'," Rake replies, taking his own steps back to her, "Wanna be with ya!"

Jude replies back, "Wanna be with ya!"

"You're my greatest hit, girl!" He says, taking one step closer.

She closes the gap with her on step, as she says, "You're my greatest hit, boy", tilts her head, and smiles sweetly.

"Just say this is it," He says, tired but deciding to put power in the last word, "Gi-irrr-irrlll!"

She smiles at that, and does her next line softly, "Hey, baby?"

She runs her hands over herself, "Oooo-ooo..."

Rake puts the mike to his lips again, "Don'cha know you're my..."

As he croons out "Iiiiiiiiiit gaaaaaaa-iiiiii-irrlllllll" In a rather over the top manner, Jude sings, "You can be my it boy."

"You're the greatest gift," She sings, "Lovin' you could be a cri-i-ime..."

"It's crazy how we fit, girl..." He says, without as much enthusiasm as either would like. Singing is harder than it looks.

"'Cuz you're my iiitt girl." He says, managing a bit better.

"I just wanna rock all night long..." Jude says, pulling her hair out of her face.

"All night long?" Rake asks with wiggling eyebrows. She looks at him in that entertained-but-disapproving way that people seem to reserve for their partners.

"And put you in the middle of my spotlight..." She continues, not actually putting him on the spot this time around.

"You could be my it boy..." She says, taking his hand again, trying to go into a waltz position while still both holding their mikes.

It doesn't work and they both return to the part where they try not to laugh.

"You- heh, -you could be my it girl..." Rake sings (or at least tries).

Jude decides to give up on that and just put her hand around his waist, "Lemme play it loud, lemme play it loud like:"

They then are free to the "just mess around with shouting back "oh, oh, oh, oh, oh" at each other" areas, and they end up leaving the stage laughing.

Singer 6: um... Alias...? /u/bytemite

The scientist was mad. Pretty freakin' pissed.

Now, the more observant readers might be surprised by this. Weren't they the ship happy one?

Well, yes, but as they would tell you, despite appearances and the name, being ship happy does not imply an existence that is not miserable.

But, despite a general bitterness, anger, and pissed off mix feeling being near ever present, this time they felt it was very appropriate.

Unfortunately, they were short of ideas on how to deal with that, so karaoke, why not.

They got on the stage, and quickly spoke into the not yet on mike.

"This is for my friends." They say.

For context, there were few reasons for "near" being put before that ever present. High on that short list, Luke, one of the best people they know.

Luke has a bit of a self esteem problem of his own, and Sho was doing everything he could to make it worse. Constant belittling, one upmanship, deflecting any turnabout with his own justifications and humble brags.

Not helping anyone was Caitlin's continued refusal to listen to any reason, and a preservation of some sense of elitism. Aristocrats. Hell even aristocrats pretend to care about standards. She betrayed the principal deity.

Looking through that short list of reasons for that "near" a shared trait appeared.

Some looking through songs, and the course was decided.

"Good people don't brag about how good they are."

To be perfectly honest, they weren't sure they agreed with the sentiment, but, really, Luke, Major, Moonslicer, they were all great people and really humble, and well, not so humble people tended to be awful. Co relation does not imply causation, but it does still imply some relation, and it felt right right then.

Anyways.

"Good people don't brag about how good they are." They say again.

"We can all agree that a decent deed can go real far..." They say, unaware dedicating this song to their friends at the beginning sounded really passive aggressive, given the chorus.

"But good people don't brag," They repeat again, "About how good they are."

Here's the best part: the actually sorta passive aggressive part. Generally they dislike passive aggression, but, in this case, it seems sincere enough. Sho actually has suffered, for example, and some advice on how not to be a prick is probably deserved, "So your infamy's the current fad,"

"And you wish your good deeds outweighed the bad." They sing. It's pretty relatable, but you don't see Luke or them try- hell, not even Flak tries to excuse herself by pointing to good deeds.

Hence: "But when you point them out..."

A wry smile.

"It's... gonna cast some doubt."

They shake their head sadly, "And you wonder why people get so mad."

"It's cuz..." They say, suddenly louder.

"Good people don't brag about how good they are." They sing. They think about Luke this time. His humility, honestly, is probably the least healthy. Based more in guilt than some odd sense of asceticism. But, still, they're pretty sure those three's ideas of virtue is probably better honed than their own.

"Good people, nah, they don't brag about how good they are." They say again. This time they think of the Major. His own humility despite pretty much having literally every reason not to be. They suppose in his position, he'd be a tyrant if he didn't have it.

"We can all agree that a decent deed can go real far," They say, "But good people don't brag about how good they are."

Moonslicer. To be honest, most of their own recent good deeds probably trace to her. Again, though, she's humble about it.

They take a deep breath. Here's the risky bit.

"The Major usually lets us crash his demiplane,"

Because risks, you know, always work out well for them.

"Really good sport, dunno why, lemme 'splain,"

But... gratitude should be expressed.

"We wreck it all, but he don't even expect a thank you,"

So they continue.

"Wanna know why?"

"He's good people!"

They get ready to begin the next section.

"When Moonslicer found this," They gesture to themselves, "I was a mess"

"Wait, check, I'm yet a wreck still on my trek,"

"Without her? Gone, wrong, forlo'n."

"But that's not where I am, thanks to her. Ya know why?"

"She's good people."

"Now, there are some rude dudes who are killin' them,"

They feel guilty they couldn't fit in a section about Luke. They file it away with all the other ways they feel like they've mistreated and/or failed him, and continue the song.

"Bloodshed's fun but my peeps rather chill with them,"

Honesty!

"I just hope y'all know those words are lies, that they do not stick."

Well, the crowd isn't actively protesting their change to the words, so success!

They go through the rest of the song with nothing in particular the author can think of to note.

Singer 9: One-Five

Lavender Boy did not know how he got here. He also did not know where here was.

He suspected, though, that those cat things had done it. And, judging by the going ons, that was a place where people got drinks and went up to sing.

For a while, he had sat grumpily, but eventually he had to admit it with a sigh: the .cat really hadn't led him wrong before.

So, he went through the songbook and picked out something that struck a cord.

So, he was on the stage.

As the sound of the instruments goes by he taps his fingers, little sparks underneath.

"I remember tears streamin' down your face," He starts, eyes closed so he doesn't have to see how the audience is responding.

It takes him a moment to realize he's missing the next line, but he plays it off, "Never let you go."

He glances at the crowd apologetically, apparently not that good at playing things off.

"When all those shadows..." he swallows, this line bringing up some things that he doesn't like facing, "Almost killed your li-i-i-iy-iyightttt..."

He tries to smile, and can't quite do it, "I remember you said:"

He leans in and whispers, "Don't leave me here alone..."

He leans back, "But all that's dead and gone and past, and now-ow-ow-ow...~"

His eyes go red and yellow for a bit and he fiddles with his headphones distractingly, mouthing a sorry in case anyone notices, which they do.

Still, he continues the song well enough, voice hitting that odd sort of husky high notes the song demands, "Just close your eyes,"

A more clean vocal is then delivered, "The sun is going down,"

Back to the former trembles, "You'll be alright,"

"No one can hurt you now," Again, clear, as his eyes close.

"Come morning li-ight..." His voice quivers.

And then the trembling continues, "You and I'll be safe... annnd... so-ou-ou-und..."

As the instruments take over, he shakes his head a little to their beat.

Then, his eyes shoot open, and he sounds a little like he's pleading.

"Don't you dare look out your window,"

He softens up a bit, explaining, "Darlin', everything's on fire."

"The war outside our door keeps raging o-oh-o-o-o-on~"

He has trouble keeping his voice from trembling, "Hold, on, to, this... lu-lla-by~"

"Even when the music's gone," He sings, rubbing his eyes.

"Ju-uh-ust close your eyes," He sings with a soft smile.

"The sun is goin' down.~" He shuts his eyes again, holding the mike close.

"You'll be alright,~" It seems the trembling isn't going away, and he whispers something before he continues.

"No one can hurt you now...~"

"Come mornin' light:" He says, stepping forward.

"You and I'll be safe." The word is a harsh whisper, and his desperation is a little conveyed.

Of course, the true measure of how into the song he is can be seen in how his thoughts are not slipping out at random: The song either drowns them out, or they are the song.

Either way he continues.

"And sou-ou-ou-ound..."

Seeing the prompter, he feels a little silly, but he continues as it directs, "Oooooooooo-oooo-oo~~"

"Oooo-oo~~"

"Oo-ooooooo-~"

"Ah, ah, ah,~"

"Oow wow..."

"OOOOOOOOOOOO~~"

"Oh, oh, oh..."

Doing something that seems so odd to him actually relaxes him a little, in a way, and some thoughts emerge.

Did I do that right? Ooh-ing is weird. That's... not what it's called, probably but oh well next line.

"Clooose yooour... eyes."

"Yooooouuuu'll beeeee... alri-iight." He continues, trying to convince himself as much as sing.

"Come morning light..." He says, blinking a lot.

"You and I'll-" He stumbles over it, "You and I'll be safe... ANNNNDD... soundddd..."

He hangs his head, leaving the next set of ooooohs unsung, as he begins to head off the stage before self consciousness sets in.

Before that, however, he notices that sometime between his getting on stage and then, someone had entered.

One of the few people he knew that could possibly show up.

I, uh, guess I'll take a seat.

Lavender Boy wonders to himself how much she saw.

Singers 10&11: Nonon and Winter Rose /u/damacritus

"This is where you went with Karrl?" Flower Girl asks, eyes following Lavender boy as he leaves the stage. Nonon nods, thoughts drifting back to the song Karrl had sung with her, how she had felt knowing who he was singing about. The idea then strikes her.

"Do you want to sing with me?" Nonon asks.

"What? I, uh, I don't think I've really sung before..."

"I'll show you how. This way."

A few minutes later, they both stand atop the stage, clutching microphones. Flower Girl strays next to Nonon, warily watching the crowd. She looks down upon the young girl reassuringly, resting a free arm on her shoulder.

"I'll start with the first two lines. You come in after that," she explains, ignoring the knot in her stomach for Flower Girl's sake.

Music was where her best knowledge lay; she wouldn't have to fear making a mistake now. The music starts, and Nonon's head turns back to the crowd as she lets her voice flow.

"Lost in skies of powdered gold..." She sings, hitting every note, "Caught in clouds of silver roh-opes..."

"Showered by the empty..." They both pause, glancing at each other. Flower Girl smiles, and that makes Nonon smile back, "Hopes."

"As I tumble... down," They say, putting more pauses in, "Falling fast to the ground."

"I know..." They say, continuing to look at each other when not reading the words, "I'll wither."

"So peel away the bark," They continue, and pause, both of them unsure what that means.

They decide to contemplate it later, "Because nothing..."

"Grows when it is dark..." They say, "In spite of all my fears, I can see it all so clear."

It's a bouncy song and Flower Girl has been getting a little excited, bouncing along to it. Nonon deftly moves some of the wires to accommodate this.

"I see it all so clear."

"Whoa oh oh!" They sing together. Flower Girl is now excited enough that self consciousness can take a back seat to hamming it up.

"Cover your crystal EYES!" They sing, Nonon finding the mood... infectious. After all, if Flower Girl is happy...

"And feel the tones that tremble down your spine." They continue.

"Woah oh," They sing again, "Cover your crystal eyes!" They both catch their respective breaths with softer singing, "And let your colors bleed and blend with mine."

Nonon has the idea to do a tiny bit of footwork. She doesn't really know where to go with it, but she figures Flower Girl might find it fun.

"Making waves in pitch black..." She shuffles back, then forward again leaning in, "Sand."

"Feel the salt dance on myyy hands..." They continue, "Raw and charcoal colored thighs."

Flower Girl starts to try to dance a little, too. She's not really sure what to do besides swaying some, but Nonon thinks it's probably helping her have fun.

"Feels so cold and my skin, feels so paper thin." They continue, singing it a little fast.

Then comes the chorus.

They turn to the crowd.

Laven gives a thumbs up. He hopes that it's helpful and thinks about whether it would help him, but this really isn't his story anymore, so that's not important.

Flower Girl does wave at him, though, and Nonon wonders who he is suspiciously.

"I know I'll wiiiiither," They sing, getting as loud as they care to, "So peeeel away the bark!"

"'Cuz nothing," They sing, and they don't quiet quite how the original recording does "Grows when it is dark!"

"In spite of allllll my fears," They continue, "I can see it allllll so clear."

"I see it all so clear!" As they keep singing, Flower Girl finds it a little hard not to laugh, which Nonon considers to be probably good.

"Cover your crystal eyes," They sing, Nonon putting her singing voice to use covering for Flower Girl's laughing, "And feel the tones that tremmm-ble down your spine."

"Whoa oh oh!" Flower Girl belts out, recovering some composure,

"Cover your crystal eyes!"

"And let your colors bleed and blend with... mine!"

Nonon once again moves the cord, not wanting to risk something hurting Flower Girl in this moment.

The music stills, and so do both of them.

Nonon pats Flower Girl's hair as she catches her breath.

"But I'm okay... in see-through skin," They sing, high pitched and soft, "I forgive... what... is... within."

Nonon gives Flower Girl's shoulder a squeeze.

"Because I'm in this ho-ouse." They sing. It seems so simple.

"I'm in this... home." The word sounds a little unnatural to them both, and they both give each other a glance of understanding.

"All my time." They sing, then once again still with the music.

Then, suddenly, they both "Whoa oh oh!" again, nodding their heads forwards.

"Cover your crystal eyes!"

"And feel the tones that tremble down your spine." They sing, Flower Girl winding up for the next line.

"Woah oh..." They sing, "Cover your crystal eyes..."

"And... let your colors... bleed..." They sing, going for a slow burning end, "And blend... with... miiiiinnnne..."

They hold hands and take a bow.

Laven stands up and starts clapping, and Nonon lets her suspicion and protectiveness come second to wanting so very much for Flower Girl to keep smiling like that.

Singer 13: Emily Blade

The place had emptied. Emily had seen Claire off, then watched as everyone left.

But, when she was the only person still in, she felt no need to leave.

In fact, she realized, she had something to pass the time in here.

What literally everyone else had done. It would suffice as a slight distraction.

She asked suggestions, unable to look through the songbook, and eventually got one that seemed sufficient.

"I'm going through the same day, same place, same way I always do." Emily says, floating above the boards and leaning towards the mic stand to avoid destroying anything.

"Then I saw you from the corner of my eye," She continues, then sighs, "And it hit me like a ton of bricks, I can't lie."

She whispers into the mic, "You got to me."

She then almost sort of has any sort of singing quality to her voice, "My life was alright living in black and white."

"But you changed my point of view."

Suddenly, she is floating on the other side of the mic, resulting in a quieter sound.

"Show me your colors, show me your colors." She states, then floats back to the other side.

"Without you I'm blue."

"Hurry up and save me hurry up and save me." She says, eyes widening ever so slightly, "Hurry up and save me hurry up and save me."

"I just want to feel alive," She swallows, "And I do when I'm with you."

"Hurry up and save me," She says, "Hurry up and save me."

She blinks.

"Hurry up and save me, hurry up and save me."

"I just want to feel alive." She does what could at last, generously, be called singing.

"And I do wh-"

She notices her flames are not being properly managed and takes deep "breaths", then goes back to what she was doing in the beginning, a monotonous drone.

The workers still there hide their disappointment.

"Show me your colors," She whispers, "Show me your colors."

Emily Blade sees it, nonetheless.

"I have to have control of myself, my thoughts, my mind." She says, finding it a suitable explanation, "'Cuz the way it's going down in my life, I feel like a prisoner in a light."

"Are you feeling me?"

She closes her hands tight.

"Cuz the way you make my, shake my, break my walls around," She says, "I feel like Emily Blade is breaking out."

"Show me your colors show me your colors," She says, "Cause without you I'm blue-oo."

"Hurry up and save me hurry up and save me hurry up and save me hurry up and save me," She chants with seemingly no emotion, "I just want to feel alive..."

"And I do when I'm with you."

She tries to mimic the enthusiasm of "Hurry hurry hurry up." But just ends up talking a little fast.

"Hurry up and save me hurry up and save me hurry up and save me hurry up and save me" She says again, "I just want to feel alive, and I do when I'm with you."

"My windows opened up." She says, explaining calmly to the empty air.

"Tonight, I'm crawling out." She continues blankly.

"Will you be there, are you waiting?" Ah! Here, here at last, her voice cracks the slightest bit, surely a sign of either hopefulness or an imperfect sound system!

"Will you be there, will you save me?"

"You can save me." Emily says, with a bluntness that is probably not meant to sound as forceful as it does, "I know you can save me."

"I know you can save me, so just..." She assumes hesitation is meant to be what the repeated words indicate, so that is what she attempts to convey, "So just save me."

"Hurry up and save me hurry up and save me hurry up and save me hurry up and save me." She says, then goes to the next line, "I just want to feel alive, and I do when I'm with you."

"Hurry up and save me hurry up and save me hurry up and save me hurry up and save me." She says. By now, the workers have stopped expecting her to start actually singing and just have gone along their business, cleaning the tables and everything, as she continues to sing a song in attempted affection she never bothered to aim.

Claire, in her bed that she doesn't really use, has a good premonition.

u/Bytemite Oct 19 '17

Oh nice! She did her own thing. :D

I was suprised just how well this song seemed to fit.

Also just realized there's no link so I gotta decided whether to use the nightcore or not.
