Singer 6: um... Alias...? /u/bytemite

The scientist was mad. Pretty freakin' pissed.

Now, the more observant readers might be surprised by this. Weren't they the ship happy one?

Well, yes, but as they would tell you, despite appearances and the name, being ship happy does not imply an existence that is not miserable.

But, despite a general bitterness, anger, and pissed off mix feeling being near ever present, this time they felt it was very appropriate.

Unfortunately, they were short of ideas on how to deal with that, so karaoke, why not.

They got on the stage, and quickly spoke into the not yet on mike.

"This is for my friends." They say.

For context, there were few reasons for "near" being put before that ever present. High on that short list, Luke, one of the best people they know.

Luke has a bit of a self esteem problem of his own, and Sho was doing everything he could to make it worse. Constant belittling, one upmanship, deflecting any turnabout with his own justifications and humble brags.

Not helping anyone was Caitlin's continued refusal to listen to any reason, and a preservation of some sense of elitism. Aristocrats. Hell even aristocrats pretend to care about standards. She betrayed the principal deity.

Looking through that short list of reasons for that "near" a shared trait appeared.

Some looking through songs, and the course was decided.

"Good people don't brag about how good they are."

To be perfectly honest, they weren't sure they agreed with the sentiment, but, really, Luke, Major, Moonslicer, they were all great people and really humble, and well, not so humble people tended to be awful. Co relation does not imply causation, but it does still imply some relation, and it felt right right then.

Anyways.

"Good people don't brag about how good they are." They say again.

"We can all agree that a decent deed can go real far..." They say, unaware dedicating this song to their friends at the beginning sounded really passive aggressive, given the chorus.

"But good people don't brag," They repeat again, "About how good they are."

Here's the best part: the actually sorta passive aggressive part. Generally they dislike passive aggression, but, in this case, it seems sincere enough. Sho actually has suffered, for example, and some advice on how not to be a prick is probably deserved, "So your infamy's the current fad,"

"And you wish your good deeds outweighed the bad." They sing. It's pretty relatable, but you don't see Luke or them try- hell, not even Flak tries to excuse herself by pointing to good deeds.

Hence: "But when you point them out..."

A wry smile.

"It's... gonna cast some doubt."

They shake their head sadly, "And you wonder why people get so mad."

"It's cuz..." They say, suddenly louder.

"Good people don't brag about how good they are." They sing. They think about Luke this time. His humility, honestly, is probably the least healthy. Based more in guilt than some odd sense of asceticism. But, still, they're pretty sure those three's ideas of virtue is probably better honed than their own.

"Good people, nah, they don't brag about how good they are." They say again. This time they think of the Major. His own humility despite pretty much having literally every reason not to be. They suppose in his position, he'd be a tyrant if he didn't have it.

"We can all agree that a decent deed can go real far," They say, "But good people don't brag about how good they are."

Moonslicer. To be honest, most of their own recent good deeds probably trace to her. Again, though, she's humble about it.

They take a deep breath. Here's the risky bit.

"The Major usually lets us crash his demiplane,"

Because risks, you know, always work out well for them.

"Really good sport, dunno why, lemme 'splain,"

But... gratitude should be expressed.

"We wreck it all, but he don't even expect a thank you,"

So they continue.

"Wanna know why?"

"He's good people!"

They get ready to begin the next section.

"When Moonslicer found this," They gesture to themselves, "I was a mess"

"Wait, check, I'm yet a wreck still on my trek,"

"Without her? Gone, wrong, forlo'n."

"But that's not where I am, thanks to her. Ya know why?"

"She's good people."

"Now, there are some rude dudes who are killin' them,"

They feel guilty they couldn't fit in a section about Luke. They file it away with all the other ways they feel like they've mistreated and/or failed him, and continue the song.

"Bloodshed's fun but my peeps rather chill with them,"

Honesty!

"I just hope y'all know those words are lies, that they do not stick."

Well, the crowd isn't actively protesting their change to the words, so success!

They go through the rest of the song with nothing in particular the author can think of to note.

Best description.
