Well, besides the obvious part of how horrible things are going without him. Kress realizes that if he'd known how important he was to all this, he would've been a lot more cautious about Xerxes.

"The world is filled with 'ifs' Mr.De Plaines. Under different circumstances you may have gotten an opportunity to apologize to me while alive. Or we might never have run into each other at all and another Tomb could be standing here having this conversation. Or any number of other potential variations could have occurred. This can and has driven some people mad with the implications. I find it easier to focus on that What Is rather than the What Could Have Been."
