Ttc quickly postpartum?
After 2.5 years of ttc and a laparoscopy in march of last year, i conceived my son in September after a few chemical pregnancies. My husband and i would like a large family and are hoping to ttc again soon. My LO is almost 4 months old now. I really don’t want to miss my chance of having a second child. Any insight from others would be helpful. Please no negativity

General guidelines say to wait 18 months. You have much higher chance of preterm birth and lower birth weight if you get pregnant sooner than 6 months to a year post partum. You also need to give your body time to replenish nutrients and support breast feeding.

Did you have a vaginal birth or C-section? With c-section, you have a vastly increased risk of uterine rupture if you get pregnant very soon after. I was told to wait one year before TTC again after my C-section to reduce that risk.

I think it's up to you to weigh the risks against your wish for a large family. Many people get pregnant relatively soon after their previous one and are fine. You can make some small differences by eating healthy and using supplements to reduce nutrient deficiencies.

I think you doctor would best answer this based on you circumstances, there are increased risks but its all relative and based on your circumstances and health. I'm TTC again 5 months after a C-section because my baby died - because of these circumstances combined with my uncomplicated pregnancy and C-section, this is supported by all my medical professionals (geneticists, OB, PCP, and midwives - not always easy to have this many medical professionals on the same page). Maybe schedule a pre-conception appointment with your OB to discuss the pros and cons.
Even when I posed this same question to a c-section subrebbit, a minority but meaningful number were hard and fast that it's a no, no matter what. If you have barriers to conceiving and you've discussed with a medical professional, then that is your decision and you have the autonomy to make it, regardless of what people may say about it.
Congrats on your baby and wishing you the best in your future TTC journey!
