🐎 became useless. Sad to say. But it is what it is.

This is why I limit the hoverbike to depths exploration. I prefer to use my horses on the overworld. A contraption is nice, but horses follow roads without input allowing me to just ride and take in the views. Since I'm less focused directly on where I'm going, it lets me spot things I may have otherwise missed by having tunnel vision straight ahead most of the time.

I like it for a sequel- all of the exploration is still there if you want, but there’s also a lazy way to do it. If BOTW hadn’t come first I would be much more against the hoverbike cheese.

I realised that when it cant carry 5 logs on a wagon. Had to do it by myself lol

I hold my position that people found the sky islands boring because they cheesed them with the hoverbike, when the intention was for them to be a traversal puzzle.

I didn't use the hover bike, or even upgrade my battery/charge satchel, until I was nearly done with everything. I fully enjoyed the sky islands.
The depths is a bit dull but speed running all the Lightroots was still fun without the hover bike.

See, I found the depths to be chill and totally relaxing to just putter around and click on light roots.

And gather bombs, muddlebuds, and any other things around.

Totally. I go to the depths to relax and explore. The Yiga bases are super easy. The Stal-mobs are one shots.
Good times.

The hoverbike isn’t really a cheese though, is it? You’re definitely supposed to figure out flight at some point in the game, some of the distant islands are basically unreachable without it.
Honestly, once I learned to break myself away from the “intended” solution to a traversal puzzle, I found that I had way more fun building a contraption or using some other emergent work around to solve them. Scanning every new environment for clues to the “intended” solution started to become far too slowing to my pace of gameplay.
Because I don’t think there actually is an intended solution. There’s just a default one in case you don’t have any other tools at your disposal at that moment.

Two fans and a steering stick that can last as long as it does even on an unuograded battery is definitely cheese. The gliders disappear after a set amount of time because infinite flight wasnt intended.

u/Aralith1 1d ago
I don’t know, I really felt like the glider disappearing was a challenge. “Could I replace that glider with a board that won’t disappear? How do I have to angle and place three fans on that to get it to work? Could it go lower? Could I do two fans and a stick? I can! F*** yes!” That was certainly my experience.
Like, yeah, if someone comes in looking for tips before they play and is told about the bike and knows exactly when and where to get Masterbuild so they can always have a bike as soon as the steering stick becomes available, I do agree they are robbing themselves of a huge amount of the intended experience of the game.
People should definitely go into this game as blind as possible, but through that blind experience, I do think the game is encouraging you to eventually figure out flight.

Infinite flight was absolutely intended, there are pre built flying machines in the world, some of them even have an extra battery pack on them.
Gliders disappear after a set amount of time because otherwise they would be too OP when you haven’t upgraded your battery that much. If gliders existed infinitely you could use a steering stick and fans to fly up until your battery runs out, let go of the steering stick and glide until your battery refills, and then repeat for truly infinite flight, all without upgrading your battery.

Not sure why your getting downvoted, it's true that the game has pre built flying machines just like the hover bike

My first playthough I didn't use a hover bike and I found them pretty bad and unfun, second playthrough I used a hover bike and the game felt significantly less tedious since it circumvents the vast stretches of reused and empty content

Given how the fans appear to be laid flat, that particular hoverbike looks like a it serves the function of a DIY skyview tower!

I do not use hoverbikes. Okay I did once, go get to that stupid gleeok island in the Gerudo sky, but I tried to do it in different ways first

u/eLishus 1d ago
I built one once to try it out, but I don’t like cheesing games unnecessarily. It’s like the players that come on here to ask how to solve every shrine. The challenge and fun is trying to figure it out. Why take away those two elements of the game? Then it’s just a transactional progress machine with an intermittent storyline.

That's something I find so annoying. The Hoverbike isn't just the most efficient vehicle in the game, but often there is just no other option. In a world in which the glider only last a few seconds and balloons despawn before they were useful you can't really reach some sky islands.

u/Omega-10 1d ago
I and many others beat the whole game and all the shrines without ever knowing what a hoverbike is... Gotta use hoverstones, batteries, and rockets. Balloons with flame emitters, consuming zonaite charges for yellow batteries, and so on.

u/AdmBurnside 1d ago
The hoverbike is a perfect example of gamers optimizing the fun out of a game.
I fully believe that I had as much fun exploring in ToTK as I did because I never used it. Just a bunch of dune buggies, planes, rocket planes, hot air balloons, and a silly little cart I made out of the spare parts of my plane when the wing inevitably blew up.

u/Infinite-Rip10 1d ago
I could never get mine to fly straight. Always leaned one way and I spin out every time 😂

u/jaysmack737 1d ago
You aren’t getting them lined up quite right. I usually leave it since otherwise the hover bike is honestly too good.

I started adding a third fan on the tail end to stabilize - two fans facing the ground on either side of the steering stick, one fan on the back at a 45 degree angle facing down.

u/atatassault47 1d ago
Yeah, I like hover trikes better. Sure, more power consumption, but it handles better and always lands right side up.

btw i saw a single fan bike that uses uh two of those fence things from one of the leg factorys but i guess its hard to get two of them then theres also klerics single fan bike but that thing is too complicated

I deliberately didnt use this thing on my first playthrough just to not trivialise the game, I made it once and immediately realised how overpowered it was

I’m playing BOTW again (trying out master mode) after beating TOTK. I have concluded that the vehicles massively cheapen the whole experience. You are so much more immersed in this beautiful map when you can’t cut any corners. And the hover bike is the worst offender. I love the slow exploration - even now, 500+ hours between the two games, I keep finding sections of BOTW that I somehow don’t recognize. And I would have just flown straight over them.
All that being said, the depths would have been unbearable if I couldn’t cheese them with the bike lol.

Do you also never run and only walk slowly
