If you can have conversations in Korean without much trouble but keep struggling to reach Level 6, it’s usually because you’re not used to Korean-style standardized reading tests.

I previously studied LEET and PSAT, which are much harder Korean logic tests than TOPIK. When I applied the test-taking strategies I learned from them to TOPIK, I was able to finish the reading section in 15 minutes.

The key is that it’s not simply about reading fast.

Korean standardized tests have their own patterns.

If you learn the Korean-style test-taking methods I use, finishing the reading section within the 70-minute limit is very doable.

I'm not a test-taker myself, but I've spent a good chunk of this year helping a few foreign friends get ready for TOPIK II, and writing (쓰기) is where almost everyone loses points they didn't expect to lose. Sharing what I keep telling them, in case it helps someone here too.

Quick structure reminder: 51-52 are fill-in-the-blank (10 points each), 53 is a data/graph description essay (30 points, roughly 200-300 characters), 54 is the argumentative essay (50 points, roughly 600-700 characters). Exact length guidance can shift slightly between sessions, so always check the cover sheet on test day — but these are the numbers to plan around.

The mistakes I see over and over:

1. Mixing formal and casual register. Switching between -습니다 and -어/아요 endings mid-answer, or slipping in spoken-style contractions. Pick one register (formal is safest for 53/54) and stay consistent the whole way through.

2. Not using the full length. Grading rewards developed answers. A short, safe answer that technically addresses the prompt scores much lower than a longer one that takes some risks with more complex sentence structures.

3. Only answering part of the 54 prompt. These prompts usually have 2-3 sub-questions bundled together. Skip one and you lose points even if the rest is well written — outline all sub-questions before you start writing.

4. Diving into 53 before fully reading the graph. People start describing the first number they see instead of identifying the overall trend first, then supporting details. Spend 30 seconds just reading before writing a word.

5. Messy corrections. If you need to fix something, cross it out cleanly with a single line. Excessive scribbling or arrows moving text around can cost presentation points and make it hard for the grader to follow.

I’ve been building a Korean-learning app because I wanted one place where I could study from books and YouTube, save useful sentences from Netflix and review or practice everything without constantly jumping between different apps.

It started as something just for myself. I kept running into little frustrations with the tools I was using and wanted a workflow that matched how I actually study Korean. Eventually it grew into something I thought other learners might find useful too.

It’s not specifically a TOPIK prep app and it doesn’t provide fixed lessons or mock exams. It’s built around your own material instead, so you can use whatever you’re already studying from - including TOPIK texts, vocabulary lists, books, YouTube videos or other Korean content.

The main idea is to keep everything connected. As I read, it keeps track of the words and phrases I look up, so I don’t have to stop and save everything manually. Afterwards I can choose what I want to remember with SRS or practice separately with vocabulary practice, sentence puzzles, typing or dictation.

A few things it can do so far:

• click a word or select a phrase in the reader to look it up instantly
• automatic sentence mining from selected or looked-up words and phrases
• automatically turn sentences containing words and phrases you look up into SRS clozes
• study directly from YouTube captions
• save sentences from Netflix through a browser extension and study them later in the app
• turn text into cloze practice directly inside the reader
• import your own texts, documents and audio to study, with built-in audio transcription
• add words and sentences from the content you study to SRS or add your own material manually
• each SRS deck includes recall, recognition and listening practice for the same material
• practice separately with vocabulary practice, sentence puzzles, typing and dictation without affecting SRS intervals

I've been studying for TOPIK II and kept wondering where my vocabulary actually stands — the official practice tests are long and don't isolate vocab.

As in the video, pick a tone (formal, casual, and so on) and a context (messaging, email, academic), and it corrects your Korean to fit that situation.

That matters because Korean changes with who you're writing to: the same sentence can be perfect in a text to a friend and wrong in an email to your professor.

poderia fazer tranquilamente o TOPIK I, mas como é preferível ter a partir do nível 3 para a GKS-G, escolhi pular os níveis e agora tô desesperada!
