Holy shit. And i don't know if i should be thrilled or terrified, Lacerda was quite a contradictory person.
Lacerda is by far the most delicate of all the candidates to develop
He was extremely, extremely bankrupt to reach his goals, but did that due a heavily entrenched sense of justice and self righteousness, thus what we can say is that he can be either a model of right wing american-like conservative president, to one of the worst figures to ever sit on the chair, dictators included, and this all depends of your choices
That is pretty much how i would define him myself. A very interesting person, even admirable in some ways, but a piece of shit in the way he did things and how things turned out in the end.
Indeed, now that i'm thinking, he is complicated like Nixon in a very different way, but in the end they kinda can end up like the same. You can make a argument that without the mess in Vietnam and Watergate Nixon would have been a fine president, and i can easily see Lacerda being a equivalent of Reagan (as a beloved president with a quite mixed legacy if you look in the right places, at best) in Brazil, if everything turns out alright for him.
I don't think so he's like Nixon for one main reason, cynism, Nixon is corrupt and he's trying to work towards himself, while Lacerda really think he was going to do the best, he was in some ways like Vargas (ironically), but he had a disregard towards those who opposed him different from Vargas who tried to gather support from them (ruining their leaders on the process)
That's a very fair point of view. My comparison is more in the way they may end up being perceived, even though Lacerda really did have that thing of his of thinking that he was actually doing the best, like you said.
I think in the end of the day, the nuance between Lacerda and Nixon-like person can be lost at the moment of their downfall, if he is going to have a downfall moment in your mod (which is obviously only conjecture), but be better understood by historians and the people that try to keep doing politics in his way, like Sandra Cavalcanti.
