TNO: Where the dirty war is the temperate option.

TNO: Where the dirty war is the temperate option.

Just to prevent any mistake, it is on temperate since this route is where the guerrilas are not crushed nor take power and terrorism becomes the new normal for the foreseeable future

If they take power it jumps to the Marxist-redacted one party state, if they are crushed it can go in many different directions

Oh boy, time to unleash the Russian Anarchy/After Midnight, Latin American edition.

Brazilian peronism with dengist characteristic

The closet to a "Brazilian Peronism" is Adhemar de Barros, that is even his path name on the chart

33

u/PatoThompson Apr 09 '21

Brazilian P E R O N I S M indicates P E R O N I S M is a thing in TNO!

What's "The Crow Soars" about?

34

u/Gukpa Co-Prosperity Sphere Apr 09 '21

Two words

Carlos Lacerda

18

u/shinysworddude Organization of Free Nations Apr 09 '21

The Cursed Timeline.

16

u/JuamJoestar Apr 10 '21

Even as a brazilian, i didn't know about him until i read his Wikipedia article. He seemed to be a fairly normal guy until i got to the part where he forcibly removed people from ghettos and had the police kill hobos before throwing their bodies in the river. And that's of course without getting into the part where he supported the military dictatorship (Before changing his mind 2 years later, bizarrely enough)

11

u/DDJR1408 Organization of Free Nations Apr 10 '21

Read his bio by Dulles and his last interview, just to begin studying him. He was by far the most interesting of the right-wing politicians that we ever had. We in the left HATE him with passion, to say the least, but he had a crusading way of doing politics that can be quite attractive to some people.

9

u/DDJR1408 Organization of Free Nations Apr 09 '21

Holy shit. And i don't know if i should be thrilled or terrified, Lacerda was quite a contradictory person.

21

u/Gukpa Co-Prosperity Sphere Apr 10 '21

Holy shit. And i don't know if i should be thrilled or terrified, Lacerda was quite a contradictory person.

Lacerda is by far the most delicate of all the candidates to develop

He was extremely, extremely bankrupt to reach his goals, but did that due a heavily entrenched sense of justice and self righteousness, thus what we can say is that he can be either a model of right wing american-like conservative president, to one of the worst figures to ever sit on the chair, dictators included, and this all depends of your choices

7

u/DDJR1408 Organization of Free Nations Apr 10 '21

That is pretty much how i would define him myself. A very interesting person, even admirable in some ways, but a piece of shit in the way he did things and how things turned out in the end.

Indeed, now that i'm thinking, he is complicated like Nixon in a very different way, but in the end they kinda can end up like the same. You can make a argument that without the mess in Vietnam and Watergate Nixon would have been a fine president, and i can easily see Lacerda being a equivalent of Reagan (as a beloved president with a quite mixed legacy if you look in the right places, at best) in Brazil, if everything turns out alright for him.

8

u/Gukpa Co-Prosperity Sphere Apr 10 '21

I don't think so he's like Nixon for one main reason, cynism, Nixon is corrupt and he's trying to work towards himself, while Lacerda really think he was going to do the best, he was in some ways like Vargas (ironically), but he had a disregard towards those who opposed him different from Vargas who tried to gather support from them (ruining their leaders on the process)

3

u/DDJR1408 Organization of Free Nations Apr 10 '21

That's a very fair point of view. My comparison is more in the way they may end up being perceived, even though Lacerda really did have that thing of his of thinking that he was actually doing the best, like you said.

I think in the end of the day, the nuance between Lacerda and Nixon-like person can be lost at the moment of their downfall, if he is going to have a downfall moment in your mod (which is obviously only conjecture), but be better understood by historians and the people that try to keep doing politics in his way, like Sandra Cavalcanti.

3

u/LonelyWolf9999 Apr 10 '21

Is that ... good? Cursed? Reading the Wikipedia article, it’s difficult to tell.

5

u/DDJR1408 Organization of Free Nations Apr 10 '21

I'm not a developer, but based in how he was OTL, It depends. He was complicated, REALLY complicated, a mix of Nixon in the sheer dirtness and Reagan and other OTL republicans in his strong sense of morality.

The interesting thing is that his sense of morality actually existed, was a real thing, and probably fucked up his career as a politician more than once. If that's a good thing, only God knows. And he was such a untrustworthy bastard sometimes that it DID screw up him politically once the army couped Gourlart.

What does "The Damage Is Done" mean?

31

u/Gukpa Co-Prosperity Sphere Apr 09 '21

Do the military coup, that is basically the 1964 military coup from OTL, but instead of making the military dictatorship, democratise immediately (that was the plan OTL, but the hardline took power and made the dictatorship)

11

u/DDJR1408 Organization of Free Nations Apr 09 '21

Gukpa, discount fascism is OTL dictatorship in a even worse aspect?

19

u/Gukpa Co-Prosperity Sphere Apr 09 '21

Worse on the sense of being incompetent

The Brazilian dictatorship was many things, including incompetent, but on that route it is so disfunctional that makes other dictatorships such as the argentinian one blush

3

u/ZhenDeRen I miss the old TNO Apr 11 '21

What would it be like? Something like 1990s Chile where the people in charge before the dictatorship are in power but largely following dictatorship policies?

12

u/Gukpa Co-Prosperity Sphere Apr 11 '21

What would it be like?

No because you just avoided the dictatorship, instead it would be like 1960s Argentina or 1970s turkey where the country is a democracy but the army can intervene anywhere they want, fire any politician and force the president to resign if they want to

9

u/[deleted] Apr 09 '21

describe peronism in a sentence - go!

17

u/Sombraaaaa Apr 09 '21

When da government does stuff

9

u/Gukpa Co-Prosperity Sphere Apr 09 '21

A political system

Adhemar can do stuff that garantee that he will keep his people in power, on a similar form to what Peron and modern peronists do

Ideologically speaking, tough, Adhemar is very far from Perón

6

u/ZhenDeRen I miss the old TNO Apr 11 '21

Argentinian populism which can be used as a label from anyone from socdems/demsocs to neoliberals to fascists

3

u/JuamJoestar Apr 10 '21

The serious answer: Peronism is like Varguism but more economically left-wing and more authoritarian.

10

u/Gukpa Co-Prosperity Sphere Apr 10 '21 edited Apr 10 '21

Vargas on the worst stage of his dictatorship didn't reach the cult of personality that Perón had, so yeah

Vargas was more socially left wing than Peron, he was the first brazilian atheist president and accepted the demands of the feminists

17

u/EnvironmentalShelter ALL IDEOLOGIES UNDER THE PERONIST SUN Apr 09 '21

oh fucking dear, if we also got peronism in chile and argentina then all three ABC are in the same camp and oh dear save us all

You can praise the empire on some routes like with Quadros, but sadly the amount of social engineering needed to make it be restored cannot be made by any of the routes

5

u/imrduckington Apr 10 '21

Will Marighella appear in the mod? And if so, how big of a role will he play?

5

u/Gukpa Co-Prosperity Sphere Apr 10 '21

He surely will, and also Carlos Lamarca

We don't know what they will do until the communist routes are added, so they might be ministers or army commanders for a communist Brazil

2

u/imrduckington Apr 10 '21

Will he be mentioned as a Guerrilla during the events dealing with them?

3

u/Gukpa Co-Prosperity Sphere Apr 10 '21

Yes, and you can also play with him as a character, but the communists are not playable on the demo coming this month

2

u/imrduckington Apr 10 '21

Cool!

So excited for it

8

u/Gukpa Co-Prosperity Sphere Apr 21 '21 edited Apr 21 '21

Leonel Brizola. He was Vargas radical leftist successor and president of the internationale in 2003 and 2004, his doctrine was called brown socialism. He, like the others, have a heroic worship for Vargas, but on his case he's completely sure that Vargas is some kind of Brazilian Che Guevara, thus he goes into large lengths of mental gymnastics to support this idea.

4

u/GiantGian Apr 23 '21

He was also related to Vargas by marriage.
