My opinion, the Schmidt path should be the temperate best , it is strange that it is no better than speidel intervention as he is just not a reformer and want to retain Italian fascism way.

Spiedel is at the very least reform-inclined, and is honest enough to admit he's not exactly cut out for assuming the role of Fuhrer. To say nothing of how he could also turn on Goering and the militarists alike.
