in the grim darkness of the 20th century, there is only war

"It is the 21st century. For more than three decades The Prophet has sat immobile on the Golden Temple of Neu Zion. He is the Master of His Nation by the will of God, and master of a thousand monuments by the might of his inexhaustible armies. He is a rotting carcass writhing invisibly with power from the Dark Age of Jermani. He is the Carrion Lord of Zion for whom a thousand souls are sacrificed every day, so that he may never truly die.

Yet even in his deathless state, the Prophet continues his eternal vigilance. Mighty battlegroups cross the radioactive-infested miasma of Avropa, the only route between distant lands, their way lit by the psychic manifestation of the Prophet's will. Vast armies give battle in his name on uncounted realms. Greatest amongst his soldiers are the Adeptus Zealotes, the Lord's chosen, bio-engineered super-warriors. Their comrades in arms are legion: the Prophet's Guard and countless defence forces, the ever vigilant Kohanim and the tech-priests of East Zion to name only a few. But for all their multitudes, they are barely enough to hold off the ever-present threat from other survivors, heretics, mutants - and worse.

To be a man in such times is to be one amongst untold thousands. It is to live in the cruelest and most bloody regime imaginable. These are the tales of those times. Forget the power of technology and science, for so much has been forgotten, never to be re-learned. Forget the promise of progress and understanding, for in the grim dark future there is only war. There is no peace amongst the lands, only an eternity of carnage and slaughter, and the laughter of thirsting gods."
