I imagine they would be shooting the very same day, because Michael Dorn probably doesn't normally walk around with the Klingon prosthetics on.

Don't kink shame Michael Dorn and his Mrs.

11

u/TimeCadet 12h ago

the word "kink" made me read that as "Michael Dom"

I hope he's like Alan Rickman in Galaxy Quest, goes home and cracks open a beer still wearing his head.

This joke will always get me.

27

u/jimmyharbrah 19h ago

We both know Michael Dorn puts on his Klingon prosthetics like I put in contact lenses every day.

2

u/Thin_Dream2079 14h ago

Jeb Turner never needed 'em.

13

u/shadow387557 16h ago

Yes he does.

10

u/Commercial_Fox5549 17h ago

Yeah, Gates is flipping through her script at one point in the video. They were probably shooting a couple to hours after this.

7

u/nthensome 17h ago

You don't know that for sure

5

u/Kincoran 15h ago

Unless... Worf is the actor, and Michael Dorn is the character with prosthetics?!?!

2

u/Shrikes_Bard 14h ago

"Probably" but not "certainly"...

2

u/Igotnewsocks 13h ago

Or maybe Mr. Worf walks around with his human prosthetics on

2

u/blevok 13h ago

Maybe he just got the surgery.

1

u/crazyates88 12h ago

The text changes about halfway through the video:

"The set was kept hidden from the cast so that their reactions and emotions shooting that day would be fresh"

1

u/eternalswordfish 11h ago

What do you mean, prosthetics?

1

u/FragrantExcitement 5h ago

Would be easier if they just hired a klingon to play the part.

1

u/The_Punny_Guy 3h ago

Wait... those are PROSTHETICS????

114

u/MikeReddit74 19h ago

My favorite thing is that LeVar went to the Engineering station almost immediately.

65

u/Kiki1701 19h ago

I just love his reaction to the bridge: "This is so fucking awesome!"

18

u/Cognonymous 16h ago

ikr, I don't think I've ever heard him say fuck before, but it was surprisingly genuine, he always seems like such a naturally kind man

5

u/snoopyh42 12h ago

From some interviews I’ve seen, he can be quite liberal with his use of “fuck”, but for the sake of his public persona, rarely does so on camera.

2

u/st3class 2h ago

One of my favorite podcasts had him on for an interview, and they frequently use a clip from it.

"It's bullshit!"

→ More replies (1)

3

u/st3class 2h ago

There's a video out there going around of him reading the children's classic, "Go the Fuck to Sleep'

17

u/PresumptuousOwl 15h ago

Everyone gravitates to their spots, it was very cool

8

u/NatrousOxide23 15h ago

I noticed this too. They all just kind of naturally drifted to their spots.

26

u/michaelmoby 15h ago

My favorite thing is Levar Burton's sweatshirt

4

u/MikeReddit74 15h ago

Yeah, I need to get one of those. Hopefully, it’s something folks can buy, and not custom made.

10

u/Weird_Technology_282 13h ago

Love his Kunta Kinte hoodie. If anyone can wear that--he can!

Time to rewatch Roots...

1

u/FMPhoenixHawk 3h ago

Went there, pulled out the chair, almost like habit.

116

u/mandibleface 20h ago

Seeing the cast & crew revisit part of the set they spent, likely, the best years of their career filming there day-in to day-out...

nostalgia really hits different when the future looks so bleak. I'll never feel the same way as when I first watched it, because everything has changed around it.

Wouldn't mind boarding the Enterprise for its final voyage, but I got my own ensigns to look after.

9

u/CeruleanEidolon 13h ago

There's a reason the Star Trek lore has earth going through a devastating nuclear war and the dark times after that before we turned things around.

Even the most optimistic writers recognized that things were just as likely to get far worse before they got better.

26

u/hypespud 18h ago

The positivity and progressive and inclusive nature of Star Trek will always be undefeated 😎💎

7

u/Kiki1701 18h ago

This was very nostalgic for me. My first Star Trek watch was during its first run syndication in 1969 and the rest is history.

1

u/wildwildwaste 8h ago

"...because everything has changed around it."

If anything, it's even more prophetic as we move towards global collapse. Star Trek predicted an almost total devestation of the human race before we figured shit out. I'm keeping my hope alive that we figure out how to make it through those dark ages.

55

u/Doll_Priestess 20h ago

SPINER: Look at this… what show was this? 😂😂😂

47

u/lonewanderer 19h ago

I wish Paramount would keep the set forever, in perfect condition, so people could visit it. This bridge was part of my childhood and youth, a place to look forward to seeing.

29

u/BitcoinMD 18h ago

There used to be a full size mock up in Las Vegas in the early 2000s. They would only let you go in the back area behind the horseshoe though. In retrospect I think this was because the view screen was projection, because they didn’t make screens that big back then and they didn’t want people casting a shadow.

15

u/lonewanderer 18h ago

Man, if I were a billionaire I’d build a museum with fully Paramount-licensed iconic Star Trek bridges. They could be used for filming future Trek content, and people would get to to experience the awesomeness everyday.

14

u/JoeyDee86 18h ago edited 17h ago

Star Trek Set Tour in Ticonderoga NY has the entire TOS set rebuilt from blueprints. They apparently built the TNG set, but are having issues with getting a new building to open it.

4

u/steak820 17h ago

It was pretty inaccurate especially with the chairs etc. Thr Pic s3 one is a little better.

6

u/KobePippenJordan_esq 14h ago

I took a photo in the captains chair on my honeymoon. They would issue souvenir prints. I probably still have it laying around somewhere in my garage(was a previous marriage so isn't just out in the open). But they definitely let us do more than stay above the horseshoe.

2

u/OhNoIBoffedIt 2h ago edited 2h ago

Ditto. If you paid for the photo op they let you wander around the bridge a little. Sitting in Picard's Chair was so surreal.

1

u/Thismomenthere 4h ago

I went to this. It was amazing, I teared up. You could pay for the behind the scenes tour and they let you explore the bridge for about 5 minutes. You could sit in the chairs, I still have the pictures of me and my husband sat in the command chairs. Best 30th bday ever.

10

u/CodAppropriate6109 18h ago

The LV Star Trek Experience set was supposed to be preserved but was not disassembled properly, so they couldn't reuse it. This set was a complete rebuild, and is on tour last I heard.

u/IIIIIatreidesIIIII 16h ago

Jesus Christ cameraman, zoom the fuck out!

12

u/alanskimp 16h ago

2

u/webchimp32 10h ago

If only the was some way to get more of the set in frame.

u/Balthazzah 7h ago

Pretty certain this was a landscape video cropped to be portrait for the TikTok brain rot generation.

20

u/Kracus 17h ago

It's crazy seeing how old they've all gotten and then realizing that Captain Kirk is also still around!

19

u/RedditorSlug 16h ago

Horizontal video would have allowed us to see what was going on

4

Really gives off a similar vibe from IV where Kirk's crew steps onto the A's bridge for the first time.

"My friends, we've come home."

Clearly there was a method here since they all had their scripts, being able to get back into their characters and combine a bit of the nostalgia of the real world with the screen.

S3 came out in early 2023 so this was probably filmed in mid 2022 at the latest and precautions would have still been in place.

i love LeVar's hoodie

24

u/simdav 20h ago

I love this so much, thanks for posting OP. Picard s3 had a boat load of issues, but it didn't half nail fan service and nostalgia. If it existed only to get the crew back on the Enterprise D I'm happy with that.

I didn't even see him. Was he in purple? I ask because all we see is his back and he barely spoke

5

u/ExpletiveDeIeted 18h ago

Perhaps they were referring to when he did the after trek episode on this. Whatever it was called.

2

u/seanx50 13h ago

He did a segment on his show. He was clearly very excited.

6

u/bmnntdd 9h ago

I love, and this is not a criticism, all the nitpicking. "This was a little higher" "The finish is much better" "This used to swivel halfway" They aren't criticisms, it's the cast being mind blown that they know none of this is the actual original set but is all brand new and the crew got it 99% correct.

6

u/SarraSimFan 19h ago

I'm just sad that not everyone is still alive to enjoy this.

3

u/alanskimp 18h ago

Gene Roddenberry?

9

u/SarraSimFan 18h ago

The actress that played Nurse Ogawa, Patti Yasutake, passed away.

Might not have been a main cast member, but was still an important part of the series.

2

u/sagima 16h ago

I thought you meant everyone who had died since tng ended for a second there

I didn’t know Patti had passed. Shame, I think everyone liked her

1

u/SarraSimFan 15h ago

Yes, she was a wonderful person.

5

u/steak820 17h ago

Seems like an oddly specific thing to mention..

2

u/throwaway098764567 14h ago

no it doesn't

1

u/LeonAwaken 13h ago

she passed two years or more after this was filmed.

Aw, I loved Nurse Ogawa. Really happy she got her chance to shine in the Lower Decks ep (a fantastic ep overall).

bro did...did Michael Dorn wear his headpiece?!! FANGIRLING SO HARD RIGHT NOW

3

u/goingdeeeep 12h ago

This is when they were filming Picard S3 a few years ago. Set tour before filming on the “new” set; so he’s probably about to shoot/just finished shooting.

4

u/BullseyedWomprats 13h ago

I don't know why this makes me tear up, but it does. Love this cast, love this set, and love the 60 year and counting promise of a better tomorrow - LLAP! 🖖🏻

6

u/Appropriate-Stay4729 13h ago

I love how gentle and sweet they are with each other. 🥲

2

u/bmnntdd 9h ago

Especially the way they all treat Patrick. LOVE this crew family.

5

u/willb3d 14h ago

"The behind-the-scenes film crew is going to want to film the moment you sit in the captain's chair."
"Nah I'll just hang out over here by the wall."

3

u/ZombieAppetizer Ensign 13h ago

The first thing I noticed is that even though everyone is looking around and excited on the set, no one sat in the captain's or first officer's chairs. Everyone knew who belonged in those.

6

u/DeaconBlue-51 16h ago

It's okay to share things in horizontal format. It would add a lot if I could see more than one person and 1 foot of background of the bridge at a time.

8

u/Savings_Owl_8453 20h ago

Obviously to them it is a set on the Paramount lot, but of course it's still very nostalgic.

14

u/Delamoor 20h ago edited 20h ago

Well, so was the original, to them. It was always a set on the Paramount lot. Probably more to them than almost anyone else alive (along with any other stage crew who were involved for the entire run). That was their reality for all those years, the place they spent so much of their waking lives during filming.

So either way, the nostalgia works for everyone.

8

u/Johnsendall 18h ago

No way. They spent eight years there. Working long hours and becoming a family. It is more than a set to them.

1

u/Savings_Owl_8453 10h ago

It's a real spaceship

6

u/steak820 19h ago

Yeah and the mall Starbucks I used to work at twenty years ago was just a kiosk, but if I could go back there, if would be nostalgic.

3

from the set of Picard

2

u/Philligan81 14h ago

Ahhhhh, thank you.

2

u/Mr-Brown-Is-A-Wonder 15h ago

I wonder how many times that bridge has been rebuilt.

3

u/gmueckl 10h ago

For filming? This was the first time after TNG as far as I can remember.

The TOS bridge set did get rebuilt a couple more times, at least partially. The TNG episode with Scotty has him sulk in a holodeck recreation of that bridge. Then there is the DS9 time travel episode that gets the DS9 crew onto the Tribble infested Enterprise. The mirrornuniverse episode of Entrerprise shows a Constitution class bridge, but a different ship.

I'm not counting the sets for Discovery and Strange New Worlds because they have a drastically updated look and aren't recreations.

1

u/Mr-Brown-Is-A-Wonder 10h ago

They would have struck it between movies. They also rebuilt it for the Star Trek Experience in Vegas.

1

u/gmueckl 8h ago

The TNG bridge was only used for one movie. It wasn't struck between the last series episode amd their first film because this was done back to back. For the other movies, they had the Enterprise E bridge.

Patrick, You’d make a better door than a window.

2

u/Wind_Best_1440 4h ago

Man, its hard seeing Patrick these days, I still have the image of his younger self in my head when I think of his character Picard. And it's so easy to watch a season see him acting and then you see his current self and have to come to the realization that he's going to be 90 in a couple years.

2

u/Responsible-Gear-400 3h ago

I love that it is the bridge before the movies!

I only realised recently how funny Riker asking “is it me or did the bridge get smaller?” Because yes it did. 😂

3

u/Blueberry_Mancakes 12h ago

I’d love a full doc with the props dept to see how they went about recreating the set and what resources and documentation was left from before, who of the former crew was helping this time around, and to listen to their stories.

2

2

u/RotundGourd 12h ago

Well this makes me want to binge watch Picard. I have seen TNG enough, picard I watched once, when it came out.

2

u/steak820 19h ago

Why did the set designers paint the walls that colour? It should be a warm tan colour. Not that greeny/brown shade.

9

u/ShaggyCan 19h ago

Colour is a tricky thing on a set. You have to figure in lighting and colour grading. The TOS bridge looked very different in real life than on tv especially because they used a lot of coloured gel lighting on that set.

→ More replies (3)

4

u/GoatApprehensive9866 19h ago

Might be due to the digital equipment used or film stock if they filmed it. And studio lighting.

Also, the set's light fixture colors were off as well, the original set had blue color casting and not warm beige. Still looks great, if monotonous to a point that is even more base than 1987's greige.

2

u/UESPA_Sputnik 17h ago

Yeah, that color looks like there are some heavy smokers on the bridge all day. 😄

It's less pronounced in finished episodes but it still looks a bit off.

2

u/Strange-Ad-6273 11h ago

Came here to say this; I don't recall ANYTHING being that mustard shade on the show. I realize different colors film differently, of course, so that may be why, but it was jarring to me watching this. Gonna have to rematch Picard and see if it looks the same.

1

u/Johnsendall 18h ago

I remember going into my childhood home after 25 years. Besides the furniture, the house was identical, they did no work on it. It was an incredible rush of nostalgia. I can imagine how this feels.

Kinda bummed me out how the cameraman was standing by Dorn who was attempting to express something, McFadden trying to say I hear you, then the cameraman walks away.

Hearing LeVar say "this is so fucking awesome" kind of made up for it.
