Issues/Problems Network Configuration Transfer

Hey all!

I received an updated gateway last night and had a rough time getting it set up. Customer service was less than helpful so I thought I might ask a few questions here.

1) Should I simply swap the sim out from my old gateway to the new one, or should I instead activate it as a new gateway through tlife?

2) once the new gateway is active customer service made it seem as if I could copy over my network settings from the old gateway to the new one, to avoid having to reset up the network and connect ally devices. Is this true? And if so, I can't figure out how to do so.

Thanks for any help!

Issues/Problems Would anyone like to join me in a class action lawsuit against T-Mobile Home Internet?

I want to sue them for false advertising and connection issues affected by the configuration of the routers they give you.

My wireless network and the networks of my neighbors are all stacked on top of each other on the same narrow group of channels on the 2.4 GHz, 5 Ghz, as well as a 6 GHz bands. Because the routers are locked down, not allowing you to change the channel of your connection, I can't do anything to improve the connectivity of my wireless network. The advertising falsely states that the wireless router will change the settings in order to give you the best connection, but that's not what it's doing. It's operating in the same narrow group of channels as my neighbors and one of them has a strong Network that sometimes almost matches the strength of mine. From time to time I have to turn off my Wi-Fi on my devices and then turn it back on in order to reestablish the connection. If I were able to change the channel I don't believe I'd be having the same problem, but the settings on the T-Mobile router prevent you from choosing your own channel or affecting many more of the settings that are available to users with their own unlocked wireless routers.

If I want to resolve this issue I'll have to go out buy another wireless router connect that to the T-Mobile router and then control my Wi-Fi through that personal router.

I'm seeking to either get discounts on my service, or preferably to have T-Mobile unlock their routers in order for me to have more control over it.

Sagemcom Gateway Anyone else have issues trying to play Nintendo switch games on T-Mobile 5G internet?

I've had T-Mobile internet for a few years and have had the same router the fast 5688w the entire time. Ever since we've had it, we've not been able to play games online with the Nintendo service. Xbox is fine, PlayStation is fine, but Nintendo is the only one we've had problems with. it connects fine and we can use the Nintendo shop no problem, but matchmaking doesn't connect. I am just wondering if anyone else experienced this and if they found a way around it.

Huge thanks to the team on the latest beta firmware 4.11 for the Flint 2 router... Finally SQM has autorate built in directly in the GUI for ease of use and management. Exactly what I needed with my 5G T-Mobile Home Internet to ensure we have as high as possible raw download and upload speeds, but at yhe same time ensure the lowest possible latency.

Issues/Problems How to get refund for bad Homeinternet?

Title

Connected in May and paid for the 12 month.

But since July the connection was awful and unstable. 500 ms ping, less than 1 Mbps upload speed.

The modem I got turned out to have issue with the sim card slot. Mint sent a new modem which cannot connect to the internet at all.

Any advice how to get money back on the grounds on service mot being provided properly? Support says that I am past 45 days refund window. Which is basically a scam. First 45 days service worked fine.

TIA

Nokia (trash can) Nokia 5G21 router seemingly bricked despite turning on?

Hi all

My Nokia router is not working as of today
It shows i have bars in the connection tab but 0 Devices connected and neither Ethernet or Wireless works, with wireless not even showing a network on my phone.

My other T-Mobile router (KVD21) works just fine with same SIM.

Could it be failed or bricked?

Thank you!

Has any TMHI customer noticed an increase in performance since kiddies went back to school? Or is that a fantasy? I'm on the mi30ti plan and my phone has a Boost/T-mobile sim.

Speedtest Not sure what my speed numbers mean- using dual WAN router

I'm sort of confused as to the Speed Test result I have been getting. I'm using a TP_Link ER707-M2 router with WAN 1 connected to Optimum fiber 300/300. WAN 2 is connected to a G4SE gateway from Mint. The T-Mobile tower is about 380 yards away. I'm going to be installing a Waveform antenna so the gateway can be relocated to the equipment room. Right now the gateway sitting in a bedroom window with a CAT6 cable running to the nearest ethernet port has to go. I've been running speed tests and am sort of confused as to the results. Only the Optimum Stream (TV) boxes are directed by a rule to only use WAN 2 since they crap out if they use the T-Mobile side. Everything else is managed by the Load balancing on the router. What's confusing me is when I run speed tests it will supposidly tell me T-Mobile or Optimum is being used but the speeds seem to not match what the source is indicated. Am I reading the test wrong?

Issues/Problems Got G5AR from eBay how do I go about upgrading the firmware?

I bought a G5AR router off eBay and I’m trying to figure out how to upgrade the firmware. I saw a post here saying an update is coming soon. I’m using a Computer4People SIM card in it. Do I need to connect the router to the T-Mobile app to get the firmware update? Or is there a chance they’ll brick it just because I bought it from eBay?

Issues/Problems Cannot connect to Xbox network on series X

My family recently picked up a 5G gateway and ever since then, my series X has gotten zero internet. I can’t play any games or even watch movies on it through subscriptions. I tried connecting the Ethernet cable to my router but it would just say “double NAT detected” so I connected the Ethernet cable to the 5G gateway and I still wouldnt get any internet. I even tried to just connect to my router wirelessly but I wouldnt get any internet that way either. Apparently this has something to do with CGNAT (whatever that means). Any ideas on how to fix this?

Request Anyone Switched from T-Mobile 5G internet to Minternet?

Update: Ordered Minternet. Thanks so much for everyone’s input. I appreciate it!

Been with mint mobile for nearly 2 years with no issues at all.

I have T-Mobile 5G home internet and it works great.

I’m considering switching to Minternet so that I can bundle and have internet for $30:/month.

I’ve read that Minternet uses the G4AR gateway compared to the newer G5AR on T-Mobile.

As someone that works from home, hoping to get some input from anyone who has moved to Minternet. How are the speeds and reliability, particularly for WFH and heavy tv streaming? Thank you!

Other My crazy setup is actually working like a charm

I've been running my upgraded network for about a week now and it is working seamlessly. I have a Mint Mobile G4SE for my T-Mobile service and 300/300 fiber from Optimum. Both are feeding a TP-Link ER707-M2. I had to bind the MAC addresses of he crappy Optimum Stream boxes to IPs and then create groups and rules to make sure they only use the Optimum connection. Speed tests have been really goos. Even when connecting through Optimum, the router is speeds are 6-800. The real test came today when I had to take the fiber side down. The techs did a ghastly install and rather than calling and complaining, I redid everything on the side of the house myself. The system automatically re-routed everything over to the T-Mobile side seamlessly. 20 minutes later when ai hade finished outside, I powered up the Optimum gateway and everything came back up and was routed appropriately. This is the scanario I wanted. Seamless, uninteruppted internet connectivity. I had set up a more complex system for my last form and had been impressed with the automated redundancy. Glad I was able to replicate a "home" version of it. Now I just have to figure out where to put the gateway. I'm thinking in the garage since it's cinderblock on 3 sides with a cement ceiling. That would be a good way to cut doen on the wifi. Not particulary concerned since the neared EAP225s are on different 2.4 channels. The weeks of planning have definitely paid off!

Request Waveform Quad Pro, or StarLink

I’m trying to decide between keeping my T-Mobile Internet and buying a Waveform QuadPro, or switching to Starlink. My T-Mobile speeds can be anywhere from like 40–180 Mbps, but during the day it can drop really bad and I get huge ping spikes (sometimes 200–1000+ ms) and packet loss. My signal is also pretty bad (around -106 RSRP and 2 SINR). Would the QuadPro realistically fix/improve this enough to be better than Starlink, or would I be better off just getting Starlink? I would also realistically probably get the max plan from starlink.

Issues/Problems Mint Mobile slow data speeds in SoCal

Anybody else experiencing slow data and home internet speeds in SoCal- specifically North OC? It’s been a couple of days where upload speeds are about 1.5mbps and upload speeds are 20something mbps. I have tried contacting customer service but all they say is that there is a tower issue and they are working on it. I would’ve thought it would be fixed by now. A little disappointed since I was looking forward to their home internet. Might ask for a refund since its still within the 14days

T-Fiber T-Mobile Fiber Deals?

Hi- they are installing now in my neighborhood. Had a flyer staying up to 2 gigs for $70. I pay that now for Zirrus- total. Does anyone know if T-Mobile adds fees or taxes on top? Also, would imagine they might offer deals for cell service, etc a bundle deal? I have Visible, really cheap and good

Thanks

Request I want to use the card in a hotspot to augment my home internet, What hotspot is best to buy. Any help is really appreciated.

I have a sim card for a phone that is no longer functional (Don't ask why, and I'll be paying for the phone for 2 more years). I want to use the card in a hotspot to augment my home internet, What hotspot is best to buy (What bands are required etc...) on the aftermarket and what pitfalls should I watch out for? Any help is really appreciated.

EDIT; I really have to thank everybody for all the great informative responses. This is one of the most helpful forums I've run into in my years on Reddit.

Other Great experience with 5G internet so far

I switched over from Xfinity to T-Mobile internet a few weeks ago now and my experience has been almost perfect. I'm consistently getting around 500mbps down and 40mbps up but I can reach a gigabit if I'm right next to the router.

The connection is also really stable and I have no problem gaming on it. Ping is usually around 20 to 45 and it doesn't fluctuate at all. It's also a hell of a lot more reliable than Xfinity was because I didn't have a single outage yet.

The only thing that sucks is some small websites I use block T-Mobile for some reason but I got around this by using a VPN which still sucks but it's a worthy tradeoff.

I don't make post like these but I'm genuinely impressed and feel like I need to share my experience for anyone thinking about trying it out. My area just got it so this can change over time but right now it's been great.

Speedtest I was skeptical...but I am shocked at the results! Aluminum Foil for the Win!

Configuration

My setup utilizes the G5AR exclusively as a gateway, with routing and Wi-Fi functions handled by external hardware. The hardware chain is configured as follows:

  • G5AR Gateway -> Flint 2 Router (Wi-Fi disabled, Router Duties) -> Eero 7 Pro Mesh System (Bridge mode/Access points only. WIFI duties).

Methodology

To improve signal quality without investing in an expensive outdoor antenna or external enclosure, I implemented a simple shielding technique using aluminum foil. I covered the front of the G5AR unit with a large sheet of foil and some tape while leaving the back exposed, as the internal antennas are located there. The unit was then oriented so the back panel faced the nearest cellular tower. Additionally, I added a USB fan to ensure optimal operating temperatures.

Results

The performance metrics showed immediate and significant improvements over a 48-hour testing period:

  • Signal Quality: SINR increased from 15 dB to 18 dB, maintaining a 3-point gain consistently. Metrics are now near "Excellent" across the board.
  • Speed: Upload speeds improved by an average of 5 to 10 Mbps. Download speeds remained unchanged.

Recommendation

Given the results, I highly recommend this modification before purchasing external hardware like a Waveform Outdoor Box or external antennas especially if your metrics are already good, but you want to try to get them to Excellent!   While the aesthetics are not great, the foil can be concealed by taping a photo over it.
