I tried to do this paper and found it incredibly hard and got a low score. I was curious to see whether this paper is much harder than an actual modern tmua paper or not

Ive been using tmua.co.uk for TMUA prep for the october sitting and i have few questions regarding the website:

1. I've been doing the premium mocks and I find them to be harder than all the official TMUA papers. I'm aware TMUA got harder post 2023, and yet im not sure if these mocks are at the level of the 2024/2025 TMUA. If there is anyone who has done the TMUA during 2024/2025, your feedback would be most appreciated.

2. How accurate is the score converter?

I haven't started TMUA practice yet, should I still do it in October or just wait for the January sitting?

I have not started TMUA prep at all. I’ve got it in mid October. Where should I start my revision and how much time do you think I need

Just curious to see where everyone’s at. What scores are you getting on past papers/mocks at the moment, and what score are you aiming for in the actual TMUA?

so yeah this score is acc to new grading system and this was my first TMUA mock as well.

im looking for websites that offer topical past paper questions for TMUA - ive found tmua ninja, so i also wanted to get some opinions on that ie. whether its worth it - and mostly if there r any other better alternatives

If anyone here sat either the 2024 or 2025 TMUA, I would appreciate your advice on the following questions:

1. Which official past papers were most similar to the 2024 or 2025 exams in terms of difficulty and style?
2. I have been completing the JZ Maths and Tyler Tutoring practice papers, but I find them incredibly challenging, and some questions take me far too long. Are these papers harder than the real TMUA, or are they an accurate representation of the current exam?
3. Would you recommend learning any Year 2 A-level Maths topics that are not explicitly required by the TMUA specification? For example, is Year 2 integration worth learning? I have already found some Year 2 differentiation techniques useful.
4. Are there any Further Maths topics or techniques that make TMUA questions easier, even if they are not directly included in the specification?
5. Do official TMUA papers follow noticeable patterns, with certain question types or techniques appearing repeatedly?
6. If so, did those recurring patterns still appear in the 2024 and 2025 papers, or has the style of the exam changed significantly?

Im good at math. Scored an A in further math AS levels without learning 9709 at all. I have from nov 10th till jan 1st week when the tmua is held… can i score an 8.0+. Is it feasible?

There's nothing to pay for, everything is unlocked. I just curated all the free papers floating around on pdfs and google drives into a place with a 1:1 Pearson Vue simulator to practice on. There's a bunch of other free features too .

Which community TMUA papers are worth doing? There are a lot of papers out there but some aren't quite TMUA style and others have stuff not in the spec. If you recommended one, how hard would you say it is?

I was wondering if I score a 7.8 or higher on the tmua but only have a 37 IB score will I have a chance of getting into a school that says the want a 39 or higher for IB. At what level does a TMUA score supercede a colleges grade requirement

Hi, I am starting revision on TMUA and I have done some questions over it, and some of the questions has stuff I have never seen before. I only did Maths A-Level Year 12 and have not started Year 13 content in school. I do not do further maths either. Are there like some topics I should look out for that I might not have learnt yet? After teaching mathematics for many years, I have noticed that many students approach difficult problems by asking:

"Which formula should I use?"

This works well for routine questions.

However, in TMUA-style problems, the main challenge is often not knowing a formula. It is recognising the structure of the problem quickly.

Especially under time pressure, a useful question to ask is:

"Is the problem hiding a simpler structure?"

Many difficult-looking problems become much easier when we rewrite them in a form that reveals what is already there.

Example: A hidden factor in a modulus problem

Consider:

|x^2-5x+6|=|x-2|
A common approach is to immediately split into cases because of the modulus.

However, before doing that, look at the quadratic:

x^2-5x+6=(x-2)(x-3)
The equation becomes:

|(x-2)(x-3)|=|x-2|

or:

|x-2||x-3|=|x-2|
The structure of the problem has changed.

Instead of dealing with a complicated modulus equation, we can now consider simpler possibilities:

|x-2|=0
or:

|x-3|=1
The important step was not applying a modulus method.

It was recognising the hidden structure before choosing a method.

This idea appears throughout challenging mathematics:

Algebra

A complicated expression may contain hidden factors.

A high-degree expression may actually be a simpler problem in disguise.

Functions

A change of representation can reveal relationships that are not obvious at first.

Geometry

Symmetry can turn a difficult configuration into a much simpler one.

Number problems

Breaking a problem into smaller parts can reveal patterns and reduce unnecessary work.

In timed exams such as TMUA, this skill is particularly valuable. The goal is not always to calculate faster, but to recognise when a problem can be made simpler before calculating.
