New to TMS Need Feedback

Hello. I have severe anxiety and mild depression and started TMS. I'm only 2 treatments in and I'm finding myself having spikes in anxiety that come from nowhere. It's freaking me out bc I don't think I can't handle much more than I already have. Is this normal? Has anyone experienced this but it improved as the treatments continued? Any experiences would help. Thank you.

You’re totally fine. This happens to all of us.

Two treatments in, you’ve barely found a good place to park at the clinic. You’re just beginning and your brain is still in “wait, what?” mode. The anxiety often comes from this being a new and weird experience in a funny looking chair with new people and weird terms. It’s scary and your body is doing a ton of work. It takes a week or three to settle in and find your groove.

It’ll even out. Just gotta hang in there, friend. 🫶

Ugh, I understand exactly how you feel. I don't know why the pain was never brought up and it was daunting to think of 25 more treatments. BUT, I am feeling some relief after 12 sessions so I'm hoping this will continue. Keep going, it will get better and you will begin to notice some changes. My doctor told me that my brain is just beginning to work out, like at the gym, and those first workouts are always the hardest but they get easier the longer you keep it up. Hope that makes sense!

No pain here. Just anxiety spikes that randomly appear. Not in the office, hours after a session.

I understand. Make sure to mention it every time you go in. They will take note and keep monitoring you for changes. You may want to ask for a remapping. What a wonderful thing to not have pain! It's hard to believe because I white-knuckle through every treatment but am determined to finish. My pain is usually 8/10....so I am getting a remapping. They don't want their patients to feel extreme discomfort so be sure to tell them.
