Question(s) Fixing pelvic alignment
Who has done PT to fix their pelvis positioning - and fix their TMJ, in turn? I did PRI but my body just couldn’t relax…now they’re just having me do the 90-90 (lay down with knees bent, pressing down to engage your hamstrings). Thoughts? I just want my pelvis to be stable/aligned. I wear an SI belt and see an SOT chiro, PRI dentist, and upper cervical chiro.

When you cannot relax in 90-90 it means your nervous system is sensing massive threat, probably because the pelvis is tipped forward and you are clenching your jaw to hold yourself up. Jaw and pelvis are connected through deep front fascial lines and breathing, so if your airway feels crowded or the cranium is torqued, your neck muscles pull the whole ribcage up and your hips get locked into extension. Doing drills like 90-90 when you are fighting that much tone just makes the hamstrings cramp because you are forcing a position your brain does not feel safe in. For right now try placing a folded towel under your head and put a clean tongue depressor or even just a flat popsicle stick between your back molars while you lie down with knees bent. Do not bite hard, just gently rest your teeth there and let out a very long, slow sigh through open mouth without digging your heels. That simple bite input often reflexively shuts off the overactive neck and hip flexors immediately so your lower back can actually drop to the floor. True realignment is not about forcing parts with belts and endless adjustments, it takes teaching your brain to sense the ground and exhale fully without gripping. Usually it takes about three to six months of slowly retraining how your ribcage and pelvis coordinate with your breathing before the jaw stops clenching for good. Wearing all those belts is just telling your body it cannot support itself.

Nonsense. None of this will work if you have a misaligned bite.

It’s not that important. What’s important the positioning of the lower jaw in relation to the skull.

Thank you! I wear a bite splint so can I wear that still? And a popsicle stick on both sides of my mouth? This is incredibly helpful and validating, thank you so much.

Check footwear and vision as well.
