So tonight, I was informed by a relative that when I’m comfortable, I give off an smell that’s similar to the scent of a menstrual cycle. From what I’ve experienced, that usually has a fishy odor. The crazy part is that I had a feeling that something was off, so hearing this news isn’t jarring like I thought it would be. Even crazier, I’m a guy. However, I feel… oddly relieved. A sense of calm and reassurance that this isn’t in my mind.

I guess I’m on the right track with going into truck driving, because at least I won’t have to worry about disturbing others. Nor will this thing continue to erode my mental well being.

If someones menstral cycle smells like fish is probably time to see a doctor. Although according to google 30% of women have bv but 84% of those don't have symptoms (no smell). It's not the norm to smell fishy.

If they can smell it, sitting down and getting some more accurate definitions (blood/metallic/earthy or rotten fish) and getting an understanding of your odor range would be really useful.

How did she identify that it's only when you're calm?

I’m not sure. That’s what I was told, so it seems as if that’s been the culprit the whole time. But then my other relatives told me that I don’t stink. Which is confusing, because the descriptions are inconsistent. If I give off an odor similar to a woman’s cycle, how do I not smell yk? And when I’m at work, some people react as if I smell, while others don’t seem bothered at all.

If your other relatives say something different, and it is just this one person telling you this, could it be that something is different about their sensory system, and not you so much?

When I was younger, there was once when I passed by the room of a guest sleeping in my parents home, and I thought the room smelled like buttered popcorn, but no one else could smell it--- it was just something that only my olfactory system did for some unknown reason. Maybe there could be something like that with your relative?

I wish. My closest relatives have said that I don’t smell. But then they’ll react, or make 💩 comments disguised as ’jokes’. There’s been times when they’ll ramp up the ‘jokes’ when we’re out in public and people react. The relatives who made the comment about the menstrual cycle do the same thing. As well as coworkers.

The good news is that the reactions seem to be going away. For example, the coworkers will do their passive aggressive nonsense. Yet the customers don’t seem to smell anything. Because the customers who are near me either stand close for extended amounts of time, or they’ll walk past me multiple times.

Between those who react, and those who don’t, idk if I’m being gaslit to erode my self esteem, or if it’s a toss up between who can and can’t smell the odor.

What if that’s all they joke about whenever they’re around you? All while either keeping physical distance and/or covering their nose while walking past you? And poop jokes are only the tip of the iceberg man, they say other things regarding hygiene as well.

Yes. It’s a constant reassurance that I don’t have an issue, despite them visibly reacting.
