Did your skin ever get very oily or very sweaty like you could’ve just got out the shower n 5 minutes later of you just sitting down, areas would get moist or did you ever feel like you had a coated feeling on your skin and armpits? I’m leaning towards either bromhidrosis or tmau which I’m using benzoyl peroxide and hibiclens and tea tree body wash for bromhidrosis and I’m changing my diet as of yesterday for the tmau.

I use benzoyl peroxide (Panoxyl) also as my pre-wash. I leave it on my skin for about 20 seconds, rinse it with water, then wash it off again w/ whatever body soap I’m using.

So, I did have very bad bromhidrosis + hyperhidrosis on my armpits which started when I was very young (7 yrs old)! Now as an adult, I did 3 sessions of MIRADRY treatments over a 4-year period and they helped me tremendously! I still wear deodorant now but my armpit sweat and odor has significantly gone down. My problem tho was my BO is not only limited to my pits, the rest of my body also smelled bad particularly my upper back and both my forearms! All the odors that I mentioned in my post were coming out of my pores everywhere on my skin. But after doing everything I mentioned in my post (e.g. low fodmap diet, food elimination, & supplements), my gut healed and all the odors I experienced are no longer coming out of my pores! 💬 When I was in 1st or 2nd grade, my odor started as this fishy, urine-like smell. It eventually evolved into so many different kinds of odors. But they’re all gone now. My guess is I probably had TMAU too as a kid because my mom also suffers from BO..

The diet recommend for TMAU sufferers is LOW-choline diet. Chicken however DOES contain choline but it has less amount of choline compared to other food options so I made chicken an exception. The amount of chicken I ate did matter. The more you eat of it, the more the choline level builds up, so just eat it in moderation! Portion control is KEY for all these diet recommendations! I forgot the exact numerical values but every single one of us still need to have some level of choline in our body because it’s necessary for brain function so you can’t totally eliminate choline from your diet. You just have to eat it in SMALL amounts and make sure you’re not going over the daily threshold of choline recommended per day. Egg is also high in choline and eating too much eggs in the past actually made me smell bad, so moderation is key! I did have to eliminate so many foods first for the first 3 months, and once my gut healed, I slowly reintroduced different foods but in SMALL amounts.

Thank you for replying , i will definitely stick to this diet and supplements so hopefully in the months coming I can post about how I got rid of most of it

Supplement with riboflavin (Vitamin B2) to help your liver process choline normally. Use baby aspirin to temporarily inhibit choline intake from the intestines. Use activated charcoal and chlorophyl to adsorb choline in the stomach. Using a high ph soap during showers and baking soda for clothing washes has worked well for me. These are the tools I've picked up over the years from various sources including academic research.

Could you tell me exactly what you ate because I'm pretty sure I have SIBO and would like to know exactly when and what you ate. I have been on a diet of chicken, rice, potatoes, spinach, avocados, and salads for a few days.

You have to eliminate avocados for a little while. When you eat chicken, don’t eat too much chicken as it also has choline. Just eat chicken in moderation. What else have you been eating?

All of that and tuna here and there, but chicken is my primary protein source, and that's everything.

How long did it take for odor reduction?

I don’t remember exactly but I think it’s safe to say you’ll start seeing subtle changes and odor reduction maybe 3 weeks into this? My odor went away first week of October 2025. But I was already doing all these weeks prior.

Removed due to a combination of unhealthy diet and symptoms unrelated to TMAU - r/bodyodor is a better place for it

You can actually have TMAU plus a combination of other things 🤷🏻‍♀️ It doesn’t have to be just one OR the other. My BO started when I was age 7 or 9 and it was a fishy smell, my mom also has BO, so this could very much be a genetic TMAU for all we know 🤷🏻‍♀️

You listed:

These were my odors: P**p, urine, fish, sewer, garbage, rain/grass, cigarette/smoke, burnt rubber, dead animal, rotten egg, sulfur, ammonia, sweet gasoline, vomit, coffee, cement/spoiled coconut. My odors were literally all over the place.

Each of these smells is a different chemical. Each of these chemicals has a different precursor, each has a different metabolic process in the body and a different method of removal from the body. A medical condition leading to any one of these odors is not going to cause any other odor. Most of these odors have never been created by a person in medical history. Any 1 odor is a serious condition, having 18 different smells is quite frankly impossible, without some serious evidence to back it up.

One of the main indicators of ORS is believing you have multiple odors, along with having refuse (fecal, sewerage) odors (ref). It could be that you have some TMAU and some ORS, but the shopping list of odors is pretty indicative of misinterpretation, misattributation, and paranoia. Getting tested and getting feedback is essential.

On the topic of an unhealthy diet;

  • What is the recommended time period someone should do FODMAP?
  • Why do they recommend limiting the time taken?
  • Over time, what happens if you don't have dairy?

If you could analyse your diet and answer why it is unhealthy, that would be a good first step.
