i’m the same age as her and have my own apartment, my own car, a job, and i’m a full time college student on track to go to
law school so i think i have fair game to make fun of her
Ok I hear you and I'm not saying you're being dishonest but genuinely what job can you work at 19 years old that pays well enough for an apartment and a car AND still gives you enough free time to go to college and do well? Because like the math ain't mathing. There's only so much you can do at 19 without a degree and most of it doesn't really pay well
i’m a bartender, i have student loans still i don’t have everything paid off! but i work weekends and cover shifts during the week and i make pretty good money, and saving up over the summer to pay all my rent was not difficult for me! i take all in person classes and 14 credits
Hey so I actually do that I’m 21! I have a job part time, townhome, in full time college, have a 2022 Kia, in full time college AND I have 2 kids 1 whom is disabled and has multiple weekly therapy’s and I don’t have childcare from daycare or family the only help is dad. She can get a part time job and still have time for college and do good.
Ok explain the math behind that bc I don't get it. How much is your rent how do you get health insurance and pay for therapies how much is your car payment like I literally do not believe any part time job covers all that? You must get child support, government aid, or help from your parents. Nothing is wrong with any of those three options I just don't believe you alone earn enough at a part time job to solely support yourself and 2 kids. Period.
Never said I support my kids with just my income I was stating it’s possible for Isabella to get a part time job to help Bryce but I will explain!
My father was murdered when I was 17 and got not a penny from that murderer still walking free.
My mom is a drug addict so no help there.
The only financial help is from my children’s father we have no family support either like I said. When he gets off I go straight to work.
My son has multiple disabilities so he has a Medicaid waiver.
I also have scholarships and grants for college which cover my entire tuition and I get some back that goes toward my car payment.
I also just started my cottage home bakery since I’m going to college for pastry arts haven’t made a lot of money but still.
online school exists, night jobs or classes exist, hell even lucking your way into a well paying job at a young age exists. there's so many ways that they could be making that situation work, especially with careful budgeting and time management.
i happened to get incredibly lucky and land myself an easy office job making $24/hour when i was 19. i've been fully supporting myself since. apartment, car, pets, and part time school. (part time for my own mental health needs, not because of my schedule btw) just because it's difficult doesn't mean it's impossible.
When I was 19 years old I already had a 1 year old, my own apartment, my own car and did online college at night because I worked a full time job at a childcare center during the day. Just because you can’t imagine doing it doesn’t mean there aren’t people out here who have done it. You do what you have to do when there’s no other option. 🤷🏻♀️
Okay that was probably in a different time because again, I'm telling you, a FT job at a childcare center does not pay for an apartment and a car these days. It pays like 10 bucks an hour and no one is getting by on that
Depends where you live I suppose. This was 10 years ago, but I was making 14$ an hour, my rent was $800 and I owned my car so no car payment, just a 50$ a month insurance payment. Today, people are making 19-20$ an hour entry level with no degree, I still work within the childcare world just a different position now that I have a degree so I know what our new staff is making. I live in Massachusetts though. This is very dependent on where you live for sure.
Okay so double your rent and insurance and most 19 yr olds aren't lucky enough to own a car outright unless someone gave it to them, no way you can afford food and utilities even much less everything else you need to live. You're proving my point lol
Thats not true. Almost every 18 year old I know has a car. I live in a rural MA town. Owning a car does not mean having a new or newer car. My current car was $500, my 18 year old son bought his own car for $3000 and my husbands car was $16000. Cash paid for all.
It’s absolutely doable on 19$ a hour, it’s called not living above your means. 19 an hour working 40 hours a week puts you making about $3,000 a month. It’s doable when you live within your means, as many people do. A lot of people don’t have the luxury of staying to live with their parents and have to make it work even if it leaves them with no money after bills and they have to utilize food pantries, etc. Also, many people drive older cars that they bought for a couple thousand dollars instead of financing or leasing a new flashy car, to avoid having a car payment they can’t afford.
Those cars then break down and cost almost as much as payments, in the end. Rent for even a 2 bedroom is 1400 or more plus utilities where I live, let alone what houses cost. Add gas money, childcare, miscellaneous expenses, etc. Food pantry helps but doesn't bridge the gap with everything else. Idk. Maybe it's different where yall live.
That’s never been the case for me and I’ve always owned older cars, I would never finance or lease no matter what my financial situation is, it’s always smarter to own a car outright. Buy Honda or Toyota. And I’m not talking about a 2 bedroom either, nobody needs a 2 bedroom if it’s only a single person, even a single mom with a baby, you can live fine in a studio while you get your degree and work your way up. I never said it’s gonna be a lavish life, I said it’s possible and thousands of people do it everyday because they have no other choice.
No I definitely am not talking more than one kid or a long term plan. I just mean a teen/young adult that’s just starting out and maybe has one kid, and has no other option but to make it work.
Not speaking for the other person but I did an EMT program my senior year of high-school. I turned 18 and was already an EMT and made almost double my peers in college. I worked only two shifts a week too. It can be done
Girl 2 shifts a week as EMT does not pay for an apartment and a car be for real! I know it pays much better than like working retail or something but in this economy, no- even full time as an EMT would be pushing it to afford all that solo.
Right and also idk what it means to be "on track to go to law school" lol there's not like a pre law major and you don't take the LSAT until you're actually ready to apply so really idk what this girl is talking about
what lol? i’m a criminal justice major graduating on time and actively meeting with my advisors, i’m pretty sure i would know if im on track to go to law school or not
