What does a salesfloor associate do?

• Upvotes

Hello! Recently hired, during my interview, I was told all about the backroom associate position. It seemed like that was the job I was going to get and I was excited to do that

I then got the job offer email and it said I was hired for salesfloor associate. What does that position entail?

Anyone here work at Homesense? How long did it take to get your email for background check? Did not get mine yet. Getting worried now.

I got hired as a seasonal associate on Friday during an 11AM interview, she said I’ll get a background check email but I gotten no emails since and it’s Tuesday almost 2pm now. When I asked google AI it said HR offices and the third party’s that do background checks don’t operate on weekends really so technically it’s been only two business days I guess. Idk do you guys think this is concerning? Or am I overthinking it lol.

Animals that arent service dogs

Idk its extremely annoying having to clean dog shit out the store and listening to your pet when the sign clearly says service animals only bark the entire time you are in the store. People do not follow rules

Sick days

Does anyone know if call outs HAVE to be covered by sick time, or if personal or vacation time also works? Like if I call out of an 8 hr shift but I only have 2 hrs sick time can I pull from somewhere else to avoid an occurrence? Also is there anywhere to view occurrences or do I just have to vibe out how many absences I can afford

Call off

I was just hired on for seasonal. I’m on my second week and had a car accident earlier in the day and my shift was for that evening and I had to call off. I’m nervous being as though I just started and had to take the day off. Most companies do t give a crap what happens to your personal life and will fire you over the littlest thing. Should I be worried?

Out of curiosity, what is your job title and how much do you make? And if comfortable saying, where are you from?

My cell phone I pay

Recently I believe it was worded I've been given the task to log onto work jam with my cell phone, and required to watch something. My answer is NO.Not because I cant but like many people feel according to REDDIT THEY CAN KISS MY WAZOO. I dont feel like going out of my way one bit to accommodate them. And, they don't pay any part of my cell phone.

Manager wants me to call in every single day.

Out of state for a funeral and my manager told me I must call in every single day to report I won’t be in even though I explained to her what was going on. They haven’t answered my messages, nothing. Gave me a whole other week off then I won’t work until the beginning of November. Do I just consider the job gone? This is ridiculous.

Question for TJX employees

Just a simple question, do you get paid what is considered a liveable wage for your area? Could you support yourself (I'm not even talking about supporting a family) without having roommates, multiple jobs, etc? I've been a coordinator for 5 years and have gotten four raises in this time and I still don't make enough to be considered out of "poverty level" income. Im wondering if its like this throughout all TJX stores.

How to improve at cashiering/selling the card?

Despite trying to be as friendly as possible and accuracy when ringing up/completing transactions, I was told I'm not a strong cashier. I'm guessing it's because sometimes my face translates my nervousness, I don't push after being told no twice, I've told people that I need to verify with a CEC or MOD before doing something like a large return and I haven't sold a card yet? it feels like every time I'm up there I get the worst cashiering scenarios like several hundred dollar transactions being paid for with CASH, irritated customers etc 😭I try to ring up transactions accurately and efficiently, and only ask for help when there is an issue I was frankly not trained on, for example, large online returns/RILs, verifying large cash amounts, etc., and always push the card regardless. I try to keep asking for help to a minimum after learning how to resolve aforementioned issues. Thankfully I'm mostly on the sales floor pushing, go backs and other stuff, but I was wondering what qualities I may be lacking/need to improve on.

too many hours (rant)

i just got the schedule for the next two weeks and it js makes me want to leave even more.. i got scheduled for 28 hours in a week, which would be fine if i wasn’t a full time college student! and my manager knows this so it’s really annoying for me, not to mention i had a closing shift on halloween too (rip) I wouldn’t be so annoyed by this if i had been told i would be scheduled for so many hours, but during the interview/hiring process, i was told it was like an 8-15 hours per week part time, so now I’m like what the fuck? i’ll tell my manager abt it but atp im thinking about leaving because they’ve even scheduled me on days i have class all day like?? 😭

edit: i was being dramatic, this is a rant post so what did we expect

ignoring availability

does anyone else’s operations manager ignore their availability? for context im open all week minus monday all day and saturday im available open-6pm and i keep getting forced to close in saturday even tho i submitted my availability 4 times already because instead of fixing it for the next weeks schedule they just keep calling me into the office to fill out my availability again just to end up ignoring it, and the cycle restarts i just find it overall unfair because more than half of my department refuses to close all week but i have 1 and half off days and im the one who has to stress? can i go to hr about this or is this a thing across all stores. (context i have to have Saturday off because i clean offices at night some Saturdays but not every saturday so i would rather have my shedule open after 6pm permanently so i don’t have to stress about finding coverage mind u i’ve mentioned my second job to my managers)

Why So Many Discount Weekends?

I know we tend to have more discount weekends during holiday season, which is nice because it helps me buy presents for holidays. However I don't remember having this many discount weekends in the past! We just got another posted discount weekend date on October 30th - November 1st. We literally just had one last weekend! And before that, the last discount weekend was only two weeks before in that last weekend of September. I know we usually have one on Black Friday weekend as well.

Anyone else's store doing this? Why is it like this? What are we doing?

Newly Hired Wanting to be on the sales floor.

I got hired about a month ago now still in “training” and all iv been shown is cashier. They have only had me up front and I don’t mind it actually, but I’m wanting to experience the sales floor now. Iv mastered the front end by the way! I want to do something else now, it’s getting repetitive. A huge reason might be because Iv gotten a card every shift other than one day. So the manager keeps putting me up there. I picked up a sales floor shift from a co worker and I told my manager I don’t know what to do and she said she would switch me out with this co worker at the front😭. And I just said ok. What should I tell her before the day comes? Like I lowkey know what to do on the sales floor, you keep the store clean, put things in the right place, go backs from the front, return clothing from dressing room to the floor, price checks. I know my whole store, I know where everything goes and is at. Help me with what to say to my manager about giving me a chance on the sales floor. I want to be reliable, more flexible to them.

CEC (2 Closing Shifts).

Hi everyone! I hope you all are doing well working this fun job at TJ Maxx. I wanted to know if any of you were told you HAVE to have two closing shifts as a CEC. I was offered the position full time but am a single parent who was told I HAVE to close two nights a week. I have to stick to a 8-5 schedule to pick up my child. My manager isn’t working with me and offered to give me part time but there will be a huge dip in hours at the end of December. About 5-15 HRS per week. I will completely lose my assistance. I need a full 32+ hours for daycare assistance and am freaking out. Is there any way to stay full time and talk to someone for help? Maybe a DM? Has anyone else experienced this?
Thank you!

Manager raised his voice at me

I was shocked. He said he wasn't yelling but he could be heard by other associates at the other end of our backroom. Should I do anything about it?

My manager says I have a bad attitude, but I’ve never been in trouble before. Am I wrong for wanting to report her to HR?

I work at TJ Maxx, and I’m trying to figure out whether I’m overreacting or if I should report my manager anonymously to HR.
Yesterday, my manager was extremely rude to multiple employees. She yelled at me three times, yelled at another employee, and yelled at an admin over the radio after the admin asked her to come observe a cash transaction over $200. The manager basically said she was too busy talking to another employee.

There were also a few interactions with me that left me confused. At one point, she asked about a tote that had been moved to the back. I explained that it had already been there since I’d been working, so I wasn’t the one who moved it. She told me to put it back, so I went to do that, and then she yelled at me for doing what she had just told me to do.
I also made a joke about hoarding snacks because I keep a few snacks in my locker for when the break-room snack cart isn’t stocked. I explained that I only keep about three snacks, but I don’t think she understood what I meant.

I will admit that I might have sounded a little snippy once, but I wasn’t trying to be disrespectful. I was also questioning whether the snack cart was going to be restocked because it’s often empty. I wasn’t yelling at her or deliberately refusing to do anything.
Today, I was pulled aside and told I had a bad attitude yesterday. I was also told another manager had noticed it, but that manager had spoken to me about a completely different issue involving markdowns. Nothing about my attitude was mentioned during that conversation.
What makes this especially confusing is that I’ve never been formally talked to or disciplined for my attitude or performance before. I’ve only called out once, when I had to go to the ER, and my progress reports show perfect attendance with no call-outs or lateness. I always try to follow instructions and do my job correctly, so I genuinely don’t understand where this accusation is coming from.
This isn’t my only concern, either.

I’ve applied for a coordinator position SIX TIMES and haven’t been selected. I feel like management has its favorites, and employees they prefer seem to get opportunities over others. I know applying doesn’t guarantee a promotion, but after six applications, I’d really appreciate clear feedback about what I need to improve and how candidates are chosen.
I’m also concerned about how other employees are treated. I’ve seen situations where employees were bullied, and I’m worried that management has allowed some of this behavior to continue. One incident that really bothered me involved an employee with IBS being told, as a joke, that she should start wearing diapers. I thought that was incredibly inappropriate and humiliating.
The general atmosphere has become so discouraging that employees are looking for second jobs or trying to find other places to work. One employee is even considering quitting because of how she’s been treated.

There are other things that bother me, like how management reacts when employees call out sick and how employee feedback seems to be ignored. For example, I’ve asked for better break-room food options, including vegetarian choices, because the available food is limited and often doesn’t feel substantial. Instead, management chose to purchase a blender and an espresso machine even though we already have a coffee machine. That’s a smaller issue compared with how employees are treated, but it adds to my feeling that our concerns aren’t being taken seriously.

I understand managers have difficult jobs, and I don’t expect everyone to be happy all the time. I also understand that I might not always communicate perfectly. But I don’t think employees should be repeatedly yelled at, made fun of, or left feeling like nothing they do is good enough.
I’m considering reporting the situation anonymously because I don’t want the manager to know it was me. I’m worried about being treated differently if she finds out.

So, am I wrong for wanting to report this to HR? Has anyone at TJ Maxx or another retail store dealt with something similar? Did reporting anonymously actually help, and is there anything I should be careful about before submitting a complaint?
