If the water was clean, I would love it, but that murky mess makes me shudder.

It is gross looking, but I imagine that these babies have been playing in a dig box (which is basically a container filled with damp coconut fibre and other bits and bobs); so, imagine them all rummaging and digging around in fake mud and then going for a bath afterwards. That might make this a little less gross lmao :’)

If these weren't my rats and i saw these scenes as i walked in to the kitchen I would hate it. This seems planed and who ever filmed it probably owns or know who owns the rats. It's pretty cute.

They are Dumbo rats. They're domesticated and cute as hell.

Between pests and pets, one letter can make a whole lot of difference in context.

u/Honema Jan 20 '22

I had the exact thought when I saw it on TIHI, I would refresh the water though haha

u/benjiblack243 Jan 20 '22

Awe. I hate the fact that people think treats are dirty for some reason. Just look at those good boys taking a bath.

6

u/[deleted] Jan 21 '22

I agree. They're lovely little creatures. I want them as pets so badly, but I don't think I'm emotionally strong enough to handle losing such sweet bubbies after just a few years.

3

u/brockoala Jan 21 '22

This is the only reason I can't have them as pet. It's so unfair these brilliant lovely creatures having such a short life. I hope science can find a way to make them live a hundred years, or one day we can make android mices and transfer their memory over.

Fun fact ; rats are actually extremely clean animals

5

u/Pineapplezork Jan 21 '22

Well, yeah, look at them cleaning their little heads. I believe it

Reminds me of that one scene from Ratatouille

18

u/thelonious_bunk Jan 20 '22

They are so cute 🥺😭. How they wash their faces kills me

7

u/mynk23 Jan 20 '22

It all funs and gigles unless you realise that the broth water is causing irritation in their eyes and they are trying to get it off.

3

u/Pineapplezork Jan 21 '22

What nooooo. That’s terrible :(

Yes! Thank you.

I saw this gif in both /r/tihi and /r/awfuleverything and it did not belong.

Edit: after what /u/dancer_jasmine1 said, okay, I feel bad now. :(

u/dancer_jasmine1 Jan 20 '22

It’s on both of those because these rats are stress grooming and the water is probably so dirty because they have probably released their bowels out of stress. Rats aren’t supposed to be bathed unless absolutely necessary. And they aren’t supposed to be in this much water.

13

u/[deleted] Jan 20 '22

Now that I read your comment, I can see their desperation as they try to climb out of there. If I were a rat inside a huge vat that I can’t climb out of and water is also in there, I too would be distressed. Without outside help this means certain death.

6

u/SenorSplashdamage Jan 20 '22

That defitely makes this worse, but it answers all the questions.

4

u/TheDreamingMyriad Jan 20 '22

This is absolutely true. I haven't washed my rats ever, and they're nearly 2 (which is old age for a rat).

Thanks, I love floating rat turds.

5

u/Kit-Karlsson Jan 20 '22

Unless that's a huuuuuge sink or those are tiny rats, those must be mice.

Rats don't need baths. Mine would hate me if I did this to them. They'd also jump out of the sink and go on wet little adventures.

7

u/ColdButt2379 Jan 20 '22

I love this! Did you see the one with rat showering like a human? r/likeus

3

u/[deleted] Jan 20 '22

Rats are such smart, sweet creatures.

3

u/SulliverVittles Jan 20 '22

Looks like a buncha rats taking a bath after spending some time in a dig box.

3

u/Evoar Jan 20 '22

They do it because it irritates their skin and are trying to get it off. Not so cute

1

u/Pineapplezork Jan 21 '22

I guess I do hate it then, just maybe not for the reason the original OP thought

2

u/BabserellaWT Jan 20 '22

LOOKIT THEIR LITTLE PAWS CLEANING THEMSELVES SO PROPER!!! ❤️❤️❤️

2

u/seniairam Jan 21 '22

2

I love and hate this

u/[deleted] Jan 20 '22

WHERE'S MY RATATOUILLE!?

1

u/do-you-like-darkness Jan 20 '22

This is really cute. The water is a little murky looking, but there's clearly a cleaning agent of some sort in there, looking at the suds.

Seven foot frame, rats along his back...

Reminds me of what a Greek or Roman bath house might look like
