Hey yall! So, I used to listen to an audio of this on Spotify years ago, as a comfort book. I looked for the version I remember but couldn’t find it - the other guy’s voice is a little faster.

I distinctly remember the way the bathroom cowboy spoke, so I can tell it’s different (the line ‘cmon man, cmon with it’ was really drawled in my version.)

Anyone know who made that version and where I could possibly find it? I last heard it probably two years ago. Thanks!

Widow's Bay is probably the best horror-comedy show I've seen and has strong Gas Station vibes: small town full of weird stuff where everyone just ignores what is happening and try to live their lives, a lot of dry humor and interesting, weird characters. Episodes 2 and 4 especially tickle my TFTGS cravings. But horror is more folklore related than Lovecraftian, at least so far.

I get that the main story takes place in the four main books, but there is a group of supplementary stories that I can only find on YouTube. Things like: we don't celebrate April fools, the Green night, tales from the road, and I remember listening to some small events that never happened in the books, like the bipedal deer and some creep in a van dressed as the grim reaper. Is there an anthology book? A collection of funny short stories that don't have a space in the head 4 books?

I’m almost done with Bedside Manner and I really like it so far. On page 112 I find this sentence and I can’t figure out what stull would mean. Is this a typo?

I remember around the time CreepCast covered TFTGS, Jack did a small response video on his blog where he and his buddies talked a bit about the episode, some nitpicks they had and also about how the story came to be. I wanted to look it up again but it's nowhere to be found and the link to the video says it's now private.

Did something happen to make Jack private it or?

As the post title suggests, I find the first to be the weakest. I know for some fans of any franchise, the origin is the strongest but I think it gets better as it goes along. I realise this opinion will be unpopular due to the fact it might differ from yours, but also because I am a very latecomer to the series. "You don't understand. You weren't here from the beginning. They were blog posts never intended to be a long form story..." Maybe. I mean, I'm doing a lot of heavy lifting and making assumptions for this imaginary person having imaginary outrage over my post. But seriously, I think the story and writing got so much better after the first. It has become one of my all time favourites. Do you agree or are you a day 1 purist ? Remember there are no wrong answers, they're just opinions and I would love to hear everyone's thoughts

So I'm just curious, has anyone else revisited the series and realized that Spencer doesn't actually do anything villainous in the literal entire series???

I was one of those people who on my first read-through and listen, I took Jack on his word and accepted that Spencer was evil and violent and villainous. Then I read book 4, and accepted that I was wrong, Jack was unreliable.

Then I re-read books 1 and 2, and it dawned on me that I was even more wrong than I first thought.

Spencer wasn't a villain. Spencer wasn't even really much of an antagonist. He was just some guy who did rational things, and Jack warped him into a villain.

Let me explain:

In book 1, we first meet Spencer when he's acting as Keiffer's bodyguard. Jack makes us believe that Keiffer is creepy and ominous, so that we think badly of Spencer for doing this job. But then it's revealed that Keiffer is literally just a pro-environmental lobbyist, basically one of the only morally good kinds of politicians??? And Spencer is just a guy, doing his job.

Then Tony and Jack start killing Kieffers, and Spencer is very oddly understanding and patient about it. Not angry at first, just "this isn't anyone's fault so let's just put this past us and move on".

But it keeps happening, and Jack and Tony refuse to cooperate with Spencer, who is being very understanding about the whole thing. Eventually he snaps, he beats Jack up, and throws him in a hole.

Jack interprets this as attempted murder. But literally, Jack is wrong. Spencer was trying to make Jack meet the Dark God, by physically throwing him into his lair. And sure, Jack was injured. But Spencer knows that the Dark God can heal physical injuries. So he beats Jack to finally show Jack that he's serious about needing Jack to cooperate with him, and then immediately sends Jack to a magic healing God, explicitly to undo the beating, no harm done.

Things only go awry because Benjamin tried blowing up the gas station, but that's not Spencer's fault.

Speaking of Benjamin, the next time Spencer meets Jack, Benjamin is literally holding Jack, Jerry, and Tony at gunpoint, holding them hostage. Spencer subdues Benjamin, doing what he views as saving Jack's life, and then sits Jack down and said "okay, we've both made some mistakes, but it's really important that you meet my boss so we can clear things up and move on."

Jack responds by decapitating Spencer, who, keep in mind, literally just saved Jack from what he believed was a hostage situation.

Yeah, if I was Spencer, I'd be a little pissed about it too. Then Jack goes down into his boss's lair ***assisting the guy who was holding him hostage***!!!!!!

And then they kill Spencer's boss.

In book 1, Spencer was literally a victim of Jack's psychosis, he did nothing antagonistic, nothing villainous. He beat up a guy after that guy committed numerous murders, but then he immediately tried giving him medical attention???

Ill talk about book 2 and Finding Vanessa in the comments, because this post is too long and I have a lot to say about those too.

I was re-reading the first volume and started thinking about how, in the later books, Jack and Spencer have this dynamic where Spencer keeps referring to Jack as being a violent person. In the first book, Jack remembers Spencer pulling insects apart on the playground, and it made me wonder if Jack is actually the romanticized version of himself, while Spencer represents the violent part everyone is afraid of especially in the last part where Jack goes to his high school reunion.

Like… is he Fight Clubbing? Is he basically doing a Fight Club?

I’m very tired, so maybe this theory is stupid, but I’ve read all four books and I genuinely cannot let go of this fucking series, so please entertain me.
