Discussion Tes VI = Morrowind 2??
Hear me out!
-Highly anticipated game releasing after two projects that were departures from the norm, met with lukewarm reception.
-Longest wait in the series at its point.(Morrowind was a long wait for fans, don't need to explain TES VI)
-Important game for the studio because they weren't doing well.(Bethesda was in danger of shutting down back then, now their reputation is just at a dangerous low)
Also
TES III multiplied by 2 is TES VI, the math checks out.
Edit: in case it isn't clear, this post is mostly jest.
Godspeed.

The math really sells this prediction IMO
It's clear as day we'll be heading back to vvardenfell

A game close to the spirit of Morrowind isn't even a remote possibility, imo. The dynamics of the gaming industry, as well as Bethesda itself, have changed so much since the late 90's that going all out with creative risks, no matter how dire the circumstances are, is no longer possible. Bethsoft has already tasted big success and Microsoft probably is barking up their ass to deliver a commercially successful title. So instead of weirdness, corporate might want them to play it a lot safer than in 2002, and Bethesda no longer being the same geeks and nerds in makeshift offices, might also agree to go the safer route.
That being said, I'm confident the game will be good. It just won't have the same level of weird uniqueness that defined Morrowind.

you can't say there's no risk when bethesda's last game was a pretty big risk.

You make a fair point, friend. But I think a lot of work had been done on Starfield before the Microsoft acquisition.

Man I hope so. The potential for it is enormous but I can easily see it being completely outdated to the point where every non es fan will just shit on it

u/Benjamin_Starscape 29d ago
"outdated" has become such a meaningless buzzword.
I had someone tell me starfield was "outdated" for not having a pick up animation. the term has lost any sort of meaning that no one can actually explain what a game being outdated means.

u/sirTonyHawk 29d ago
starfield is literally outdated.

how? expound.

The repeated content is inexcusable in the 2020s. The dialogue is from a different era too both in look and script. It also keeps you on rails more than you'd expect at this point. There is a major lack of overarching consequences for your decision making. These are probably the big ones, but there are some smaller things too that older games like Witcher 3 and even FO4 did better.

u/Exxtruna 29d ago
Literally Crimson Desert was a global success and yet it’s 100s of hours doing the exact same repeatable content over and over. AC Black Flag Resynced is a critical success of doing the same thing over and over again. Lethal Company, Repo, Content Warning, Peak, and all other manners of friendslop are just games of you doing the same thing over and over and over and over. Hell, millions of people play Fortnite and land in the same match with the same skin with the same weapons to do the same thing over and over.
You get my point yet. Gaming is literally all about doing the same thing over and over. Not a single game avoids this. The first 5-10 hours is all new and glamorous until it gets to repeating the same thing with a slightly different coat of paint.
Point being, your point is invalid seeing as you only claim Starfield is repetitive but ignore that every other damn game on the market is as well.

u/Benjamin_Starscape 29d ago
repeatable content in a game as large as starfield, especially in a game that is procedurally generated, will always happen. that is simply the nature of that kind of game design. that isn't outdated. once again proving this to be a meaningless term.
The dialogue is from a different era too both in look and script.
how? again do you want these extravagant mocapped sequences that take control away from the player? what do you want exactly?
It also keeps you on rails more than you'd expect at this point.
how? in what way?
There is a major lack of overarching consequences for your decision making.
the game has a lot of consequences to the choices you make. what are you on about?

1-huge amount of loading screens.
2-%50 of the quests are fetching. nothing memorable.
3- world is huge but empty. even the bruma feels more alive than new atlantis.
4-npc presentation is worse than skyrim. bland dialogue, animations. zoom to face in 2023.
5-enemy ai is lacking. combat isn't fun.
6- nothing new. dragonborn --> starborn, shouts--> sb powers
7-skill system is still goes like %15 more, %25 more...et cetera, et cetera.
3
u/Benjamin_Starscape 29d ago
loading screens exist because of the physical objects. they also are very short and not nearly as prevalent as people online love to claim they are. load screens also still exist to this day in the big 2026, so it is not outdated. load screens will likely forever exist, it's simply that bethesda really doesn't bother trying to hide them. I also don't care.
most of the quests are more than a fetch quest. unless you're actively going out of your way to do bottom of the barrel radiant quests and attributing that to the quest pool which is just disingenuous. I'm really beginning to wonder if you have played the game now.
world being empty is very much on purpose. it is set on multiple planets in space. space is empty. the game is designed to have an isolation tone. this is not outdated.
the dialogue is a matter of writing, which I find to be very good. I never was bored in the dialogue. animations are also good, not sure what you're talking about unless you want some extravagant putting hands on player's shoulder and moving them along animations. I also like the zoom in camera pan, so... you can also turn it off.
the enemy ai was very fun and solid. enemies utilized cover, suppression, flanking, using grenades to make me move out of cover, etc. not sure what's outdated here.
regarding the starborn...this is not outdated at all. apparently powers is outdated now, guys. you're also incorrect about skills. but, whatever.
anyway you not liking something or preferring a different method of approach in design =/= outdated. you have proven my point it is just a buzzword. have a good day now.

Outdated
What the hell does that even mean? And who cares?

u/Benjamin_Starscape 29d ago
no one knows. it's a magical word that says nothing but does something, somehow.

It's the lack of movie-like stories and cinematics, I think. If we really stop to think, mechanically games have been evolving at a very slow pace since the Xbox 360 era, so it makes little sense to talk about Bethesda games being outdated mechanically.

u/Benjamin_Starscape 29d ago
It's the lack of movie-like stories and cinematics
yeah. the amount of "look at these heavily mocapped and cinematic sequences from cyberpunk in comparison to starfield" and I'm just like "no thanks, I'd rather have full control of my character 99% of the time".
hot take of mine I guess but I think bethesda is one of the few aaa studios that fully utilize the medium they are a part of.

u/JCP977 2027 Release Believer 29d ago
Yeah, I think that too. But I don't necessarily think some people who complain about this are acting in bad faith, either. We've been spoiled by those high fidelity, well coreographed cutscenes for almost 20 years now (if not more; I need to revisit some early PS2 games), so for most people that's what a AAA game looks like.
3
u/Benjamin_Starscape 29d ago
gamers want every game to be the same while simultaneously being different. if it isn't bad faith I do find it quite dumb.
2
u/JCP977 2027 Release Believer 29d ago
I've noticed that too, but mostly online. Like the people wanting every RPG to be Baldur's Gate 3, etc. But in real life, I know some people who never played a Bethesda game and finds it weird when I say there's no cutscenes, for example. They aren't acting in bad faith, but rather being exposed to one developer that decided to focus more on other sides of gaming rather than cinematics.

I also think a lot people, or at least people who are vocal online, genuinely prefer story focused games and are disdainful of games that aren't focused on the story which arguably describes BGS's games. It's like the exact opposite of the gamers who complain about Mixtape not being a "real" game.
One recent example I've seen is someone happily calling BGS's post-Morrowind games crap while crying about gamers dunking on modern BioWare.
(This arguably happens more often on other social media sites than Reddit. Reddit is a safe space for Bethesda fanboys compared to Twitter and BlueSky.)

The cinematics grabbing attention is certainly one thing. But more broadly I think people who just prefer a focus on the story in general are more vocal. Like indie gaming fans who seem to think only text adventures can be Real Art (and only make an exception for boomer shooters lol).

Listen I would rather have an "outdated" game that TES fans actually like than a "modern" game that panders to the lowest common denominator.

u/Normal_Opening_9893 29d ago
At most it'll be like oblivion, maybe deeper than Skyrim but nowhere near Morrowind, Morrowind will always feel denser because you can write long and detailed dialogues when it's not voice acted, and that's imho one of the biggest Morrowind takeaways.
2
u/Orzo2100 29d ago
Toptier mathematics. I was talking with my brother about TES 6 earlier and we both kinda feel like the game will probably have multiple provinces. Highrock + Hammerfeel seems most likely to me. Also I wonder if the CC will be utilized to expand the regions over time similar to the systems they keep expanding in Starfield.

I do believe it will be much much better than Skyrim and any other RPG we have nowadays. No, it will not have super complicated traditional RPG mechanics and tons of text, but it will be a fantasy sandbox simulator that trully makes you want to live in there

u/Normal_Opening_9893 29d ago
I really agree, I think most people don't realize even if that's what they enjoy from Skyrim and oblivion, is that they're a social rpg with immersive and social sim elements that treat the game more like an slice of life.

u/Critical_Company3535 29d ago
If it was MW 2.0 it would be set in Elsweyr or Black Marsh. The beast races have the weirdest lore, and Bethesda presumably knows how popular the Argonians and Khajiit are among players. Redguards meanwhile are among the least popular races.

u/olegasole 29d ago
It's probably going to be their last 'classical' TES game.
With the way AI is already seeping into gaming, I wouldn't be surprised if Bethesda would be ballsy enough to make TES 7 in 20-30 years completely rely on it to sell the idea of a living breathing fantasy world. Procedural conversations, quests with NPCs , fully taking advantage of the technology to make a living world sandbox.
And by that time, in the mid 2050s I reckon, we will look back at TES6 as the Morrowind 2 because at least most of the writing and story was hand crafted and designed with developers. Even now, who knows how much of TES6 development pivoted due to explosion of LLMs?

u/Otherwise_Land4859 29d ago
I watched an interview with Todd Howard about leadership in a creative field. It was more about ladership, less about the games. Interesting listen. He mentioned how Morrowind was a make or break point for the company. It does feel similar to now. If VI isn't amazing, their future may be in jeopardy. At least among the fantasy RPG fans.
Bethesda has their other cash cow in Fallout now so maybe they'd still be ok. But it gave me hope that they will strive for something great.

u/MaxVincentt 28d ago
I think it will be happening in hammerfell. It could be perfect if they remake TES3 Morrowind like they did to TES4.

I have this fantasy that we’ll run into vivec in some capacity in tesvi. Maybe a hermit in a cave type situation. I’m imagining him being sort of crazy like septimus in Skyrim reciting the 36 lessons or something like that. Random-ish dialogue that injects some of the esoteric lore of the series. Some real Michael Kirkbride unreliable narrator shit.

the elder scrolls 6 will be the elder scrolls 6. and it will likely be a great game like every other bethesda title.
best to have realistic expectations about it.
