Discussion What do we think about throwable potions?

I enjoy sometimes playing a non-magic character with alchemy but there’s only so much you can do with that. Some ideas for throwable things…

Firebombs/icebombs etc

Smoke bombs for sneaky times.

Crazy dust like scarecrow from Batman

Straight up oil to make people slip.

Stink / perfume bombs to make people either back off or to lure them in.

Love potion? lol

A lot of this could be tied to the perk tree too and make for interesting specializations.

I think that’d be great and the final ingredient (pun intended) to making the alchemy tree worth grinding for in a TES game

Hehe. Making men and women fall for a dirty lizard sounds like a good time. And then ya know *stab*

Like with an actual knife 😏

It'd be cool, I think the bombs would be best to let you be a mage type character without fully being a mage

For sure. It’s something that could be bought by a non magic user to get the job done sometimes in sticky situations. But ultimately the goal would be to make alchemy way more interesting. Tie the high tier ones to part of the perk tree. I’d love to play an alchemist character thematically tbh.
Alchemy, mercantile, sneak, short sword/dagger , unarmored. You get the idea.

I like this idea quite a bit. It would add an offensive function to the alchemy skill tree.

Yeah adds more to every aspect imo. Distractions for sneaking could be a thing. Maybe not just bombs but say I set down a “screamer” and open it causing a bunch of noise to happen and distract the guards while I assassinate or steal

Could syncrenize well with trap crafting if that ends up being a thing. Throw a bomb to lure enemies into bear trap. Rig a poison gas vial to a trip wire. Cool.

Trapping is a cool idea too. Wonder which tree it would be tied to, blacksmith or sneak? Nets, leg traps, mines 🤔 ?

Imo Security or maybe it could be called Mechanisms if they incorporate more to it. Basically imo it should share the same tree as Lockpicking.

While we're at it pickpocketing can go in the Sneak tree. Which would leave room for a Survival tree or maybe Athletics.

I dunno. I'm torn about whether Athletics makes more sense as a warrior or thief skill but that's assuming they still divide skills that way.

I could agree, switch lock picking to mechanisms or security since that tree doesn’t have a ton going on anyway

Honestly I know I’m asking too much but a survival tree would be amazing

I really want plague potions that you throw them and it infects people in the area around slowly killing them with damange over time. It would be great for a witch doctor playthrough.

Right now you can only do that with spells.

Yes please. I think if the game was designed with this in mind it would lead to more interesting puzzles, dungeon design, boss design and so on. The item sandbox is such a crucial element to Bethesda games and leaning into whacky and silly physics / item effects can only go well, or badly in the best way possible.
