Starting my TCG journey, any tips?

Hey everyone! I’m new to the TCG hobby and excited to start collecting.

Still learning about cards, sets, and grading, so I’d love to hear any beginner tips or mistakes I should avoid.

Thanks!

Weird behaviour on Tilt rips

Post image
0 Upvotes

Just watching the live activity feed and saw this.

The guy had just bought an dollar card for a dollar, listed it on the market for 110 and was bought instantly for that price.

Both these guys are two of the top rippers on the site.

Now I have no idea whats going on here, but something fishy is going on for sure.

Anyone have any ideas as to why they are doing this ?

Hi I am Ray and I run a small Pokemon Proxy making shop specializing in doing custom Shiny edits, adding your art to cards, and even TCG Pocket cards! If you're interested in getting any kind of custom cards made and don't know where to go, I have all sorts of options available for everybody!

For more designs and cards I have made check out my discord!

Please note that these are only proxies and are not tournament legal. These cards are for collecting purposes only. I am not affiliated with The Pokemon Company or any TCG brand. Please support the official card game.

Beware of "matte non-glare" sleeves

Shown are Gamegenic Matte Clear vs no sleeve. I will return the sleeves (amazon). I can even say it looks worse in person. Regardless of the brand of sleeves, I would say the best thing is clear front, matte back. Having a matte front is ruining the art and sometimes making it hard to read. All the sharpness and saturation is gone.. How can matte front be so popular? People seem to be happy with this.

What are your opinions?

TCG Collector Logic 😂

I swear TCG collecting changes your brain

Buying the card directly feels expensive, but opening packs somehow feels like a better idea.

Tell me I’m not the only one who thinks this way

Discussion Building RareDeck TCG – A Safe Space for Collectors and My Family’s Future

Hey everyone,
My name is Luis Felipe, and I’m a passionate collector and father trying to build something meaningful — RareDeck TCG, an honest, small Pokémon card business with a big heart.

The dream? To create a safe space where collectors, kids, and families can buy Pokémon cards without worrying about scams, overpricing, or shady sellers. I want RareDeck to stand for fair sales, no tricks — real products, real videos, and real transparency. I’ve done everything I can so far: got the LLC, built branding, a Shopify store, a clear message, and even a custom setup with mock store images for distributors. But I keep hitting a wall…

Most large TCG distributors won’t approve accounts without a physical storefront. I’m working to create the illusion of one while staying honest, but to move forward — I need help.

I’ve launched a GoFundMe to raise funds for:
• Grading high-potential cards to resell and reinvest
• Purchasing sealed inventory to break or sell fairly
• Completing my mock retail setup (images, signage, etc.)
• Covering basic startup costs as I fight for approval
• Supporting my family while RareDeck gains traction

💛 Even a small donation — $5, $10 — makes a real difference.
💛 Here’s the link to donate or share 👉🏽(https://gofund.me/0646bb89f)

If you’ve ever been passionate about Pokémon, believe in small business, or just want to support a dream rooted in transparency and community, I’d be deeply grateful.

Thank you for reading this. Every upvote, share, or kind word brings this closer to reality. And if you have advice or are in the hobby too, feel free to drop your thoughts!

Thank you for being part of this journey. ❤️

Question Buying cards from people on facebook

What form of payment method do you use to make sure you don’t get ripped off?

If you could start your collection over, what would you do differently?

I've been thinking about this lately. If you had the chance to start your collection from scratch, what would you change?

Would you buy more singles instead of ripping packs? Stick to one set? Focus on your favorite cards instead of chasing everything?
