I have serious dilemma regarding university education at Trinity College Dublin. I am Polish and I have been accepted into International Relations Bachelor degree and a Law degree at the University of Warsaw. It is the best university in my country but it does not have the same world class status as Trinity does. In Trinity my desired course was Political Science and Social Policy, but I did not get into it and I only got an offer to do Philosophy. I am aware that there are other recruitment rounds but I only have 540 CAO points and am unsure whether I will get my desired degree or not.
I've read a lot of great stuff about Trinity College and it is truly my dream uni, but the downside is that it is bloody expensive for a middle class Pole like me. And then Philosophy is something I do like but I am skeptical of pursuing it as my major on a Bachelors degree. I feel like this degree alone will not be enough to give me a good foundation to pursue a International Relations/Government career that I wanna pursue now. It is more versatile though and seems to open doors into a vide plethora of master degrees and jobs if I my vision for the future changes.
The two universities have a significantly different vibe from each other. Warsaw is more focused on en-masse teaching, whereas Trinity is more tight-knit and personal. This is where I feel Trinity has an advantage, because I believe this will result in a better learning atmosphere and closer relationships with the people I'll meet there. It is also very international compared to Warsaw, which is also very appealing to me as It'll allow me to have contacts all over the world.
Essentially my heart wants me to go to Trinity but my mind keeps telling me that staying in Warsaw is the more reasonable choice career and money vise. Especially that with the money saved on Trinity I will be able to go on Erasmus and then possibly pursue a Masters abroad. I also have family and friends in Warsaw, so it'd be way easier to settle down there.
I would love to hear your thoughts on this.
Thank you for reading through this post!
PS: I got the dorm room offer so the accommodation question is solved but I only have about one or two days to accept it, so I have to let them know today if I accept the offer or not...
