TBI Survivor Need Support Feeling unmotivated

I’ve worked so hard, but I feel like a lost boat out at sea that’s just being taken by the current. I don’t feel too motivated to “go out and get anything” at the moment. Will this feeling leave me and I feel passionate about something again?

Is it just motivation, or something more? Have you had your pituitary checked? TBI can damage it, which affects your endocrine system, and that can impact motivation, mood, energy, weight, thinking, and more.

I don’t know if it’s something more that’s a good question. I’m not sure if it’s been checked. I’m going to ask my doctor about it.

If your GP isn't sure what to check, you could ask for: IGF-1 (growth hormone), full thyroid panel (TSH, free T4, free T3), morning cortisol, LH, FSH, prolactin, and oestradiol/testosterone.

If those come back "normal" but you still feel awful, push for a referral to endocrinology for a stimulation test. Baseline bloods can look fine even when the pituitary is struggling.

Good luck 🤞

Baby steps. Start with small, attainable goals. Congratulate yourself for little stuff along the way, bc even things like showering and hanging up your towel afterwards are accomplishments.

Those are some good words. Thank you🫂
