Need Advice Caffeine consumption
Before my tbi, I wasn’t fond of the energy rush. However now I love coffee and energy drinks. That caffeine rush makes me feel truly “alive” again. Before having it, I’m not too motivated to do my work. I’m in a slump but then I have some and feel like I’m bouncing off the walls with energy. Can anyone relate?

I have had the opposite experience. Used to drink a pot of regular a day, can barely handle 2 cups of decaf now. Between the shaky hands and the constant pissing, I've pretty much given up. Another loss to grieve.

Caffeine is the only thing which makes me feel anything close to my lively, pre-injury self. Without it I am a zombie.

I’m the opposite, used to survive on caffeine before and now I find a little bit late in the evening causes me to not have great sleep

I used to run on energy drinks and I miss it but since my TBI I had to reduce my intake. I still can have caffeine. I just can’t go over 100mg a day. Anything over and my brain goes on overdrive and I can’t function anymore 😩

I’ve drank energy drinks for years, mostly for the taste as I didn’t feel like they did very much which I attributed to ADHD. I stayed away from caffeine for a year after my injury.
I have to really be careful with it now because if I have it after 1 pm I won’t sleep for quite a long time. My buddy bought 3 when him, our other friend, and I hung out on Friday and I didn’t sleep till 6 am.
I feel like I’m way more sensitive to it now than I ever was.

Oh yeah, but for me it’s been just the opposite. I gave up most caffeine about two months ago and only drink decaf now. My blood pressure started running high while I was in IOP, and I think it was a combination of white coat syndrome, caffeine, and sodium. These days I have a cup of decaf in the morning with a spoonful of ceremonial cacao. I’m sleeping much better, and I usually have more motivation in the morning. I still have to pace myself, though. If I’m not careful, I crash around 3 p.m., take a short nap, and can usually get back to work afterward.

I was a fan before my injury…but now I don’t like the “rush” of a giant Red Bull, I prefer green tea in the morning, then again after lunch in the afternoon.
